The Castle Inn Riverside, Wichita

If you like horrible service, no breakfast or coffee at a bed and breakfast, squeeky beds, broken faucet handles, and TV's older than the ice age...This place is for you. The owners are never to be found. The fireplaces don't work and when they do they go out after 10 minutes. Since they are gas fireplaces this creates a very dangerous situation. The linens were old and stained. There is no elevator. We were the only guests there and was still assigned the 3rd floor with no elevator. We also had the pleasure of the owners granddaughter who skated up and down the entry way, in pajamas at 3 in the afternoon. As an added bonus she followed you around and talked your head off in between falling down. The faucet handle in one of the bathrooms was broken and there was mold in the other bathroom. We had to pay for 2 rooms because our kids could not sleep on a blow up mattress on the floor. One room was the garden room and the other chamomile room. The carpets are stained and need to be replaced. The basement is a scene from "The hoarders" show. This place is a dump and not worth $5.00 dollars let alone 170.00 per room per night with no breakfast or coffee.

I have stayed at many different inns in the US, Ireland, Bahamas, West Indies, Etc. This particular place, although nice (for Wichita Ks.) is not worth dealing with the attitude of the owners. Instead of meking the stay about the guests and their pleasure, it's about what you need to do to accomodate them... What could be a very enjoyable place is completely ruined by these people who scruitinize your every move and make you feel as if they don't trust you. Even upon requesting information, it became a list of the things that we needed to do to accomodate their needs and inflexible schedule. Perhaps the hospitality business is not the best fit for these people... In conclusion, I have stayed at much nicer venues with FAR less stipulations and MUCH more hospitality. I would avoid unless you just absolutely feel that you need to experience the house itself.

The castle was beautifully restored and the grounds were lovely. Bur that isa where the positives end. We were given a short tour of the Carriage House and handed a self guided tour sheet. But before we could leave the office we were asked to sign their policy papers outlining what we could take to out room - no wine, champagne, sodas, etc.. Desserts were to offered in the evening but were not out when we returned after our dinner. We helped ourselves to the frozen cheesecake thawing on the kitchen counter. Breakfast was to be served at 8:45 and we went downstairs a little early hoping to get a cup of coffee. When we asked if we could have a cup we were quized as to where we were going to drink it. (We felt like we were being treated as children since we had already signed the pledge that we would not eat or drink anywhere but the dining room or the solarium.) Our food came out about 25 minutes late with the quiche being still slightly runny. The host appeared frazzled getting two tables of two served. He appeared uncomfortable in his role as an innkeeper. We have stayed in numerous B&B's and this was one of out least enjoyable, not because of the inn but the people.

One will feel like a kind or queen when you stay at The Castle. I can't even describe the attention to detail they have given to this historic place! It is warm, relaxing, and very comfortable. Truly one of kind. The Lowry's were so accomodating and wanted us to have a great stay. Comfy beds, beautiful suroundings. Will go back again and again.

This building is truly amazing. It is fun to imagine people there over 100 years ago. In reading some negative reviews it occurred to me that perhaps these people do not have any experience with B&Bs and that they fail to realize that while the Castle was renovated, it is still an old building. We will return again and again.

A) Not the room reserved and paid for in advance. B)Attic room with supporting posts holding up the low and cramped ceiling C) Bathroom in a closet D) tiny, dirty window with veiw of the over-flowing dumpster E) no breakfast F) no wine, cheese, appetizers as advertised G) Staff rude,unhelpful, and uninterested in client concerns H)way over-priced for what was received. BIG disappointment!

My parents won a trip here and loved it. Now my boyfriend and I have booked it for our honnymoon...perfect for that romanic night.

So nice to spend my 50th birthday there. Big bathtub for 2. Great Bed & Breakfast. Had wine tasting in the evening with cheese and appetisers.

Our stay in the castle was an experience because of the history of the castle, however, we found the staff to be very cold and inhospitable. We were there as a honeymoon treat and were supposed to have a tour of the castle, shown how to use the jacuzzi, and have a bottle of champagne in our room. None of this happened. We felt very uncomfortable. We slept in the first morning and one of the staff actually had the gall to call us on the phone and tell us that since we didn't make it down for breakfast the first morning, our time would be changed and was extremely rude about it. The upkeep on the castle was poor. Some doors were extremely hard to close, as well as ceiling tiles that were very stained or broken, toilet seats that didn't fit toilets, stained walls, and mismatched paint in areas. If you want a nice, warm atmosphere were the staff does cater to you and make you feel welcome, I would recommend Serenity Bed and Breakfast in Wichita.

i disliked this hotel becaus it had no pool and it had to old of stuff they need to updatre a lil bit and lett loss and get crunk
