Nothing but "Smoke & Mirrors"
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/29/09
My wife and I recently stayed for 3 nights at the Hidden Moose. I had searched this out on the internet, and of course the website makes it look and sound like absolute "nirvana"....What we found was a building and grounds in need of a lot of TLC...The room we booked was filthy. The carpets were old, worn, and not very appealing. Pictures in the room and bathroom looked like they had never been dusted...old and tired looking furniture and the glasses in the bathroom were filthy.... On the balcony (which faced a gravel parking lot and busy road) were two cheap looking plastic chairs that were dirty and one would think that being a reported top 15 B & B in 2004 that a lot more attention would be paid to simple cleanliness and comfort details. The breakfasts were terrible, and their attempt at creating a unique breakfast experience miserably failed....stay away from the lemon cream cheese filled french toast!!! The owners are clearly riding on some apparent flattering review done in 2004 and don't seem to have much concern for the future of this place...Good luck with survival...and rest assured that we or our many friend that travel to Whitefish from Calgary will not return...

We Love it!
By Sabrina, 05/12/08
We love staying at the Hidden Moose Lodge, and we are NOT relatives of the owner. We've stayed 3 times and each successive stay is even better than the last. The rooms are comfy, the breakfast superb and accommodating and the people are easy to talk to and truly interested in their guests. It is off the main road, but once inside feels like a second home and the road is not busy nor loud. We did not hear traffic noise at any time during our stay while in the lodge. There is a wonderful warm fireplace and kitchen area that is shared by all the guests and makes it a great place to meet other guests and hear their stories. We would recommend it to any of our friends. The Wingren Family

What a great vacation!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/12/08
We've never enjoyed ourselves more than our ski vacation in January! The breakfasts are legendary and the relaxed attitudes and friendliness of the the owners and other guests was wonderful! I really liked the little touches, like the fresh chocolate chip cookies and brownies on the kitchen counter when we got back from dinner at night! The rooms were spacious and welcomeing. The beds so comfortable that I overslept more than once! Thank you for your attentiveness. Dawn and Tom

Don't stay here...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/28/07
Not clean - not worth the $$... on the main road/noisy... I think the good reviews must come from relatives of the owners. The other bad reviews hit the nail on the head....

Travelers BEWARE!
By Allen V, 11/05/07
Do not, DO NOT, reserve at this lodge if there is ANY chance that your travel plans might change within a reasonable time. Background-- In July, I made a two night reservation for my wife and me at Hidden Moose in September as part of our 18 day road trip from the Chicago area to North Dakota, Montana and Glacier NP. At that time, I also reserved lodging at 15 other hotels and B&Bs. About two weeks before leaving, I found out that the only road through Glacier, "Going to the Sun", was to be closed for major maintenance the day before we were to visit the park from West entrance to East entrance. I was able to shuffle the arrival dates, without penalty, at ALL other lodging sites except Hidden Moose. As a result of the shuffle, we were able to stay only one night because the other was fully booked. This was acceptable, except we were later charged the full daily rate of $185 for the original booking, in addition to the prepaid one night's lodging. Their cancellation policy is far and away more restrictive than any of the other places we reserved, including some that were smaller than Hidden Moose. I was told about the policy by Kent, the owner, when I requested the change of dates. As we checked out after the one night, I mentioned my conversation regarding our change of plans to his employee, who found no file information about this. Subsequently, when the new charge appeared on my credit card statement, I immediately called. The person I spoke with said she would check into this, explained that there were vacancies on my original booking date, took down my phone number, then dismissed me because of another call. There has been no call back. My advice for lodging in the Glacier area is to reserve the Hampton Inn in Kalispell; it's wonderful and there will be no hassles.

Great value for a beautiful B&B
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/03/07
We have now stayed there 3 times and plan on going back anytime we travel to Whitefish. On the last trip, we took our 2 boys. We thought would have more fun at a place with a pool so, we checked into the Pine Lodge. Not a bad place but, it's on par with a Holiday Inn with a indoor/outdoor pool. After one night, we were back at the Hidden Moose! I wish my bed at home was as comfortable as the one at Hidden Moose. The staff is very friendly and the coffee and breakfast is great. They have a beautiful Great Room with a wonderful fireplace.

Been there twice and going back again!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/17/07
It is unfortunate that the previous reviewer did not spend the night, it is a nice place to stay and they missed a great breakfast. The rooms during our 2 trips were comfortable and clean and the service was very good. The location is not bad at all, practically everything in White Fish is on the main drag, including the "good medicine lodge". (although "the good medicine" is across from a great resturant, McGarry's.) The great room and it's fireplace are a great place to have a glass of wine which was on the house. My wife and I have spent our last 2 anniversaries there and will go back again for the next. The only complaint was that the hot tub was not well kept.

What a disappointment...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/12/04
We arrived at the Hidden Moose after a 9 hour drive to find that the $168 per night suite had filty carpet and a musty/animal smell. When we addressed this with the person running the lodge, her reply was "Oh -- isn't that carpeting just disgusting?" Well -- yes, actually - it was. And we expect a little more for $168 per night...

Also - though not really a big issue, we were very surprised to find that this B&B isn't nearly so secluded as it appears from the photos on their website -- rather it sits on the main thoroughfare going through Whitefish -- traffic noise is plenty...

After finding our suite simply not clean and unacceptable, we sought out other lodging and found an excellent B&B just down the road at "The Good Medicine Lodge" -- they were MUCH more reasonable in price and absolutely immaculate, and a beautiful B&B with very gracious hosts to top it off (thank you Woody, Betsy & Juanita).

We emailed and requested our $168 deposit back from the owner who has refused to refund our our money because we didn't give 30 days notice... I'm not sure how we were supposed to know 30 days in advance that his B&B would be too dirty to stay in.

If you're going to Whitefish, your dollars and your time will be much more wisely spent at the Good Medicine Lodge (goodmedicinelodge.com)
