Castaways Beach Resort, Daytona Beach

i suggest to rent from an owner-these rental companies are in it for the money-the owners units are remodeled and very nice-I do not rent mine so I am not trying to slant the reviews -just getting facts right as these rental companies are bringing our values down

I have stayed @ this hotel 5 times in the past. This was the 1st time since New owners took over. Ralph is ok, but he doesn't seem to keep the staff informed of reservations he makes for the guests... His wife needs a "Disney" course in GUEST RELATIONS. She is nothing short of Medusa. There are several families that WERE returning guests, and won't be back because of her.-- I am a Native Floridian in the Hospitality Industry for 30+ years and I KNOW people either make or break your business... It might be they are too busy trying to self off rooms as "condos" instead of caring for guests. They are stingy with towels, won't even take trash out. Their Amenities list is a LIE- drunks in hallways trying to acost other guests, garbage and urine smell on the steps that lead to the beach. I live less then an hour from Daytona and am now looking for a new hotel to stay in, when we go. Sad this was once a very nice place for working families on a budget. Now it is quite scary and I even had to fear for my teens in this place with it's clientele. :( 90% of security cameras are NOT even hooked up.

We had no problems getting more towels. We did have a problem with the small frig and one burner hot plate. The picture showed a full sized frig, two burner stove and counter with bar stools

We (grandparents, children, grandchildren and friends) vacation monthly. This trip was fairly spontaneous and we did not expect much because it was a last minute reservation and extremely cheap. What we got was a vacation that left us wanting this experience every month. The children loved the location of the beach and the pool. The adults loved the location and convenience, we could watch the older children from the room while the younger children slept in a comfortable quiet cozy room. Shopping and resturants were within walking distance, the room had a kitchenette, we eat out so much that we enjoy fixing a sandwich or salad in our room and eating at the pool or pic-nic area. The staff was great (especially Lori), all our needs were addressed, this is extremely helpful when there are picky grandparents and needy children. I can sum up by saying that I am very selfish and would hope that my room will be available when I check-in next month, so if you decide not to try Castaways it's o.k., then I know my room, on the beach, first floor, becide the pool, will be available. The place was filthy! There was mold on the bathroom ceiling & lampshades, the beds had large brown stains on them, the staff was unprofessional. My mom's room had an adjoining room door that would close all the way & when she went to tell the someone at the front desk they handed her a wrench! We had to buy new bed linens & lysol for the night, we got there too late and couldn't go anywhere until the next morning (unfortunately)! Do yourself a favor & reserve rooms at another location!

We hosted a wedding at a different resort up the strip from here, and three of our guests booked rooms at Castaways because it was a good bargain at the time. Unfortunately, it was bike week, and the rooms stank of tobacco, were noisy, dusty, and in all other ways unclean. Harsh, but true. Sorry, but this place stinks.

I loved this place - the best place to stay at Daytona Beach - priced was reasonable and on the ocean!!!

a great place, we have been going to this place for 3 years now, it is clean they change the bedding all the time unlessyou say you will make the beds, they clean , the resturant is great, the food is so good, have to try their wings, its pricy but what isn't. if you are in florida you can aford it. we watch football, nascar on their tv, we have meet some lovely people that we see year after year. some times people write bad reviews because they expect too much, or they are so used to a condo with everthing in it, if you can aford it thats fine, but don't put down a good place because you think you are too good to stay in a place that is simply, you are there to see the sights, walk the beach, make friends, go to sleep. if you want a 3 bedroom condo with a tennis court ect. book it.we will always go back there, we are from canada and we love it.

I had a nice room with a nice view of the ocean even, though it was on the side of the building. The hotel employees are very helpful, and the owners there are funny.

The location is about the only thing this building has going for it. It is right on the beach and the oceanfront units have a nice view. The oceanview units, however, have views of the parking lots and adjacent buildings with a small glimse of the beach, and one side is above a very loud and obnoxious bar that will wake you up at 2:00 closing time. Castaways is a run-down condo unit with foul-smelling hallways and the rooms are a complete grab-bag. I'm writing this in 2008 AFTER all of their "renovations" have been completed and we just returned from Daytona 500 race week. You'll read mixed reviews because each room is different. Management's excuse for everything is "the rooms are owner-owned units and we don't look in them on a regular basis - we don't have control over the furnishings and such." Management apparently also does not know if the owner of the unit starts smoking, makes changes that render a unit no longer handicapped accessible, or leaves a unit with no showerhead, from the complaints I heard at the front desk during my stay. They do not clean the units prior to use, only after they've been occupied - our room was covered in a layer of thick thick dust when we arrived. Our room didn't even have real beds, just broken Murphy beds with dry-rotted lumpy mattresses. Apparently their only standard is that all the rooms have matching curtains and bedspreads. I've stayed in snowmobile camps with higher standards. This place really has no business renting rooms.
