Wyndham Apollo Amsterdam, Amsterdam

The people were friendly and the location is nice, at the waterside. The view from the room was great, BUT You have to walk five minutes to the tram, and then it is fifteen minutes to anywhere interesting. So you loose at least half an hour every day. Amsterdam trams are fun - but not that fun! The breakfast buffet is very, very overpriced. The selection of food is way below what you find at a medium priced Scandinavian hotel, and the quality is low: like the cheese is dry, the fruit brownish, and no specialities. In addition we were not informed that the breakfast was not included - and price information was really hard to find. It was somewhere at the room we were told. In general the hotel was clean - but when I tried to hang my trousers over a rail at the room - no one had cleaned it, and thye got dirty. (I hanged it there cause there were only four hangers. Internet connection is not included - and the price is way off - like a business hotel five years ago. Also, no safe at the room - probaly at other rooms, as they said they had it.

Initially thought that the name and "brand" of hotel could prove its worth, but I think there really isn't that much to say about the hotel. Went there last July. We had one of the worst rooms in the place, I think - right at the lower floor and close to the lifts. It got quite noisy a few times, but we beared with it. Wish the staff could have been a little more friendlier, at all times. The check-in staff got kinda curt, but well - perhaps it wasn't their best days.

I liked the hotel because we got a good price, but it is out of the main area which is nice at the end of the day, but tiring to get back to. Having the Shell station with the minimart next door was great for snacks and water! Staff friendy and kept room clean, turned down bed in evening.

Despite the good location, nice reception staff, everything else fails - all because of the poor service provided by concierge. We had the worst experience ever. The concierge messed our free shuttle service schedule to the airport on our return from Amsterdam and ended up having to fork out own money to get a cab, and as you should know, its terribly expensive travelling by cab. He wasn't even apologetic and polite about his terrible mistake and tried to deny we did not make our bookings with him. Really disappointed by that attitude- ruined what initial lovely image we had of this hotel.

This hotel is beautiful and right in the heart of the city....would definetly recommend it to others.
