Arethusa Hotel, Athens

I stayed at Hotel Arethusa on 4 separate occasions during June 2007. Each time was a different experience. The first room had a huge tub, but no where to hang the shower hose. The rooms all after that had small showers, and the last was hardly that. A small area in the bathroom with a drain over it. On one occasion the shower smelled due to bad plumbing. The cleaning staff is really good, they try their hardest to get this place to look ok, but still have a problem with it. The flowers in the room pictures are NOT there! The rooms also vary in size. The hotel does not have wireless internet which is horrible, but if you get the rooms like 102, 103 and so forth up each floor, you can pick up the signal from Syntagma Square. The breakfast is decent, could be better, but is suitable. Overall the place is ok, but the bathrooms are not good at all!

I stayed at the Arethusa in October 2006 and agree with the previous review. The staff seem haughty but they are actually very nice. One spent 20 minutes on the phone trying to find me a pharmacy on a Sunday (which he did). The rooms are basic but tidy and clean. The cleaning staff are very nice. This hotel is located very close to the centre of Athens. One note of warning, demonstrations occur in Plateia Syntagmatos often (like when we were there) and at 9:30am when they have protest music barking out of giant loud speakers, its a little over whelmeing (especially when you drank too much ouzo the night before - like I did!). Nice place and yes, watch out for that tiny elevator.
