Alexandra Hotel, Kos

My wife and I have stayed at The Alexandra Hotel in Kos Town four times and are booked for a further visit later this year (2007). It might be useful to first say who the hotel will not suit. If you have hoards of screaming kids who demand all manner of amusements and activities to occupy them for the day, or teenage sons and daughters looking for in house entertainment with pounding pop, rap or house music, then this is NOT the place for you, so please don�t go. However, if you are a couple, perhaps with small children or even older ones who can quietly occupy themselves or a business person, and you are looking for an exceptionally well appointed centrally located quiet hotel in Kos Town then The Alexandra Hotel is THE place to stay. The facilities and services are all described on the hotel web site. Those that we have personally used have all been provided to a very high standard. The hotel is privately owned and both the management and the staff take a genuine pride in the hotel and in ensuring that a guests needs are met if it is at all within their power. All staff from the room maids to the manager are very friendly and the hotel is kept spotlessly clean at all times. The rooms and bath / shower rooms are very well fitted out and are larger than in most Greek hotels we have experience of. The brekfast is continental in style but offers a very extensive choice. Many of the rooms on one side of the hotel have stunning views over the Old Kos Town Harbour and castle, and then over the sea to the mountains of Turkey in the far distance. The rooms on the other side mostly have views over Kos Town to the islands own central Dikeos mountain range. The location of the Alexandra is absolutely perfect, and particularly so if one is unable to walk long distances. Walk straight ahead out the door for 200 metres and you will find yourself in the main Kazouli Square with its fruit & spice market and the towns museum (Well worth a visit for it�s exquisite collection of statues). Walk out and turn left through an archaeological site and after 200 metres you will be on the harbour side lined with palms and tavernas and from where you may catch a boat to many of the other Dodecanese islands or those more distant, or to the historic Turkish city of Bodrum. Many of the local buses are also depart from here. Turn right out of the hotel and 200 meters in that direction will bring you into the winding streets of shops and tavernas leading up to Diagora Square on the hilltop surrounded again by tavernas. For those wanting a beach, the Town and Lambi beaches are approximately five to six hundred metres away and the local buses will take you to those more distant ones. The Alexandra Hotel is not the largest on Kos or the newest on Kos but it is by far the most conveniently located hotel on the island and this fact linked to the excellent standard of the hotel and the welcoming and genuine caring attitude of its management and staff make it THE NUMBER ONE HOTEL ON KOS for us.
