Enjoyed it very much
By ,
I see the past reviews which say its in need of a lot of work and better staff. I just stayed here for three nights and thought it was a pretty good Hilton considering such an old building its in. I am diamond level with Hilton so I got a suite upgrade and it was very roomy, clean and everything worked just fine. The staff were super friendly and attentive, the breakfast was a nice big spread and the location was excellent. While I was there they were going through a lot of renovations in the foyer and bar area but no big deal. That's a good sign to me that they are always improving.I would certainly stay here again.

Hilton should remove their name from this hotel
By ,
The rooms are not up to par. Our toilet was about to fall out of the wall and we had to call maintenance 3 times in 7 days. Twice for lights and once for a refrigerator that didn't work. It definitely doesn't feel "clean". I've had Hilton VIP Status for at least 7 years and stayed at many Hiltons. This is the first time I can not recommend a hotel. If you have status, don't expect the usual "perks". Concierge staff was very helpful, and the location is great, but overall I would not recommend this hotel.

DIRTY HOTEL POOR MANAGEMENT
By ,
The castle view is amazing...and the rest is below every standard. The "deluxe room is rundown. Toilets are awful, carpet retains years of dirt, porter does nothing to help except watch you endure the opening of a door with a stroller. Hilton should be ashamed. Bottom line is that poor management is the basis of all this: thinking that a good view will do it.

This Hotel is a shell of its former self...
By ,
This hotel and the City of Edinburgh deserves better....service is an issue here...there was no one at the door to help with luggage when we arrived....they were no help when looking for places to eat...had building maintenance fixing things in my room every day...we were there six days...management offered free water as a way of making things right.....management refused to move us when we complained about the sweaty nights... One should know that half of the hotel has air conditioning and the other half does not....we had small children and were put in a "family room" with no air conditioning...the room was big but dingy and run down....you need to get a castle view when booking to get air conditioning...we were never told this and wouldn't have minded paying the extra small amount for the "view".... We had two different locals suggest that the hotel is no longer what it used to be...they suggest the Scotsman, the Greenhouse and the Balmoral as better choices.....

6 Days at the Caledonian Hilton
By ,
Reception was very helpful and hospitable. Room turn-down at night sometimes present and often not present. No clean towels frequently not available when turn-down was absent. At times even though we had an expensive room, there seemed to be a cheapness in the attention to the room. Kleenex, towels etc, not first class. We ate in 6 different dinner restaurants in Edinburgh, the worst of which was the Pompadour Room, which pretended to be fine dining. The service and attention in the room were first rate and the food was third rate. This was a very disappointing experience. We would not stay here again!

A Place to Rest
By ,
After two very hectic days of traveling and attending business meetings in London, I arrived at the Caldonian at about 9:30 p.m. where I was greeted with warmth and professionalism. All employees I encountered during the two days I was there went out of their way to assist me and to make my stay hassle free. The hotel provided a zone of quietness and calm that was refreshing to a weary traveler. The room was cozy and the bed was wonderfully comfortable. The restaurant and service was first class and the food was excellent. I highly recommend this hotel as a place to pause and refresh while traveling.
