Good location--impersonal service
The location of the Hotel was convient. It was only a block or so to the tunnell, but the location was not enough to make me stay there again. The facility is beautiful, but lacking any European charm. It could have been in England or Chicago, New York or Los Angeles. You do not leave the hustle and bustle of the Oxford street when entering the hotel. There is always a long line for help at the front desk. There concierge was the only during my Europe visit that did not speak English well. There was often no one at the desk, and the service was quite poor. The lines for the front desk were riddled with problems each time I was waiting for service. Many were complaining of the accomodation not fitting what there reservations had indicated. The room was not ready when we arrived, hours later when we received our rooms they never brought our luggage up to us. I eventually went and retrieved them myself from a large luggage room that seemed very disorganized. Several men watched as I struggled to reach the luggage on a top shelf. They did offer to carry it up to my room after I had collected them all myself--I declined.
They do not have open access to a computer. They did allow me to use the computer in the executive room, but only after I complained that this was the only hotel in all of Europe that did not provide the service. They first said I would have to pay an exorbant price to use the service. They relented when I continued to complain. This is the only hotel out 7 that I stayed in during this trip that I had any problems with.
If you like a tourist hotel that has only business feeling to it, than you might enjoy this facility. It is beautifully decorated. Our two rooms were both beautiful and the bathrooms were large and lovely. Air-conditioning could hide a multitude of these sins if you are visiting during the hot season.
The beds were not very comfortable, but the breakfast choices were many and served in an impeccable manner.
If you are wanting to enjoy the famous politeness of the English I suggest you stay somewhere where more of the employees are actually native Brits. I don't think I met any at front desk and only one at the concierge that spoke English as their first language. Overall, it was disappointing. I would prefer a more authentic experience.
