Mermaid Inn, Rye

We booked at the restaurant for my birthday. However with the exception of the starter the standard of the food was disappointing. Sadly two of who ordered the same main course were moderately ill the next day (one of us is a medical doctor). The service in the restaurant was adequate and no more, e.g. we often had to ask other waiters to take messages to our assigned waiter etc. The ambience of this ancient building is superb but I am afraid the staff seem to be resting upon the hotel's reputation and laurels a bit! Not recommended for its food! Bernard
