a GREAT place to stay

We just got back from a 5 night stay at the Intercontinental Paris in March 2005.
Many reviews I had read complained of poor service for those not paying full fare. We booked through Priceline and got a GREAT deal. When we arrived, the reception was perfect. We had no problems with the service.
The front desk was very nice and professional, the concierage was great to work with and he got us dinner reservations at a great restaurant. The doormen were always friendly and polite. The service was truly outstanding.
The hotel is in a GREAT location. About 5 minutes from the Lourve, 5 minutes from the Musee de Orsey, 5 minutes from all of the great shops on the Rue de St. Honore (Gucci, Chanel, Heremes, etc...), a 30 second walk from the Jardin Tuileries, and a 2 minute walk to a GREAT little cafe called the Cafe de Castiglione. Metro stops are about a 5 minute walk.
The room had a great bathroom area, and a wonderful king size bed. The room can be small for American hotel rooms, but if you unpack your luggage and use the dresser and closet, and then stow your bags in the corner or in the closet, there is plenty of room. Besides, you come to Paris for the sights and things to do, not to spend all day in your bed (even though it is comfortable). Overall, the room is comparable in size to many other European hotel rooms.
Mini fridge was in the room, but they charge you 16 euros for them to empty it, or you get charged as soon as you remove any items. This caused a small problem in that there was a small area in the fridge for your use. I put a coke in there which leaned against a can. When we got our bill, we had a charge of 6oo euros for the mini fridge. Once we figured out the problem with the front desk, they immediately apologized and removed all of those charges.
The 234 Rivoli restaurant had great food and a very helpful waiter when it came to the dinner suggestions and the wine. The food was great. I would recommend for your arrival night to eat there because when you are tired, you just want good food and then to go to bed. The food is good and comparibly priced with other non-hotel restauarants.
The service, location, and cleanliness make this hotel a GREAT place to stay. I would stay there again with NO hesitation.
