GO IROTAMA!!!!!
By ,
This place is fantastic and so relaxing. All the amenities are here, the beach, huge beautiful pool, tennis, entertainment including traditional dance and coastal music. This is an iguana sanctuary, so I was amazed at being able to see Iguanas in the wild..bring your camera!!!! Santa Marta's old town district is only 10 minutes away by taxi where you will find awesome seafood restaurants and quaint coffee shops..lots of street artists selling hand made items at very low prices. I stayed for 8 days in a very nice suite apartment and loved every minute!!!

Best hotel in Colombia! Irotama Class 101
By ,
I was 2 yrs old the 1st time I visited this hotel. 26 years ago it was a small simple hotel, but I have seen it grow as big as it is today. Most of the employees even remember me by name over the years. My family came for vacations at least every 2 yrs. I didn't come from 2001 til 2008, and returned to marvel at a hotel that is still growing and I couldn't be as happy as I was now visiting with my own family. People who don't know the hotel, do not know what room to choose or which are the best places to stay at in this hotel. First the Hotel has 1 mile of beach side, which tells you how long the hotel is and how much it has grown over time. I love to walk from one side to the other as if I had 1 mile of private beach. Sorry nothing better than this, not even any of the 3 different Ritz-Carlton's I had stayed at. I'm going to help you choose the best suites you could ever get. All the middle of the hotel is the old section (built over 26 years ago), any of these are for people who like the rustic feeling and the Bohios are the small cabanas that make you feel as if you were on an island under a Tiki hut. Great for those who want to experiment that feeling and believe me they are not bad accommodations, it's just not for those who want the comfort of a 5 star resort. The old apts (Irotama North) that are next to the small pool or oldest pool, (where I learned to swim), are really old & small. For a 3 to 4 star hotel style stay in the Irotama XXI building, built in 00-01 and they remodeled the building in 08. There are some suites that are hidden between the north section going to the south section of the resort that is my absolute favorite building because is secluded and I don't loose some of the new amenities that I like. Going to the south section, passing the tennis courts and through a bridge where you can see several of iguanas all day long. There is the new and improved and sophisticated Irotama del SOL. Brand new in 08. The hotel has an infinity pool and many balconies have their own Jacuzzi (in case you want more luxury) over looking the Atlantic ocean. For those overlooking the back you have a pretty picture of the Nevado del Ruiz. The apartments (exactly as I'm saying it APARTMENTS, because they are European style apartments), not a simple room and made of pretty granite on the outside. The resort offers you approx. 5 different restaurants to choose from and my favorite "La Barra Viva" (choose your own fish or lobster from a fish tank). People need to learn the Card system. You get a card depending on the package you asked for and keep it with you. It will give you 4 free drinks at Happy Hour (6pm till 8pm, it used to be unlimited when i was younger, sorry) or 4 amazing juices after breakfast (I'm talking fresh fruit and some you had never had before). Kids get 4 free ice cream popsicles, you name it. You also get your breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you want something specially prepared, they discount the regular price of the dinner towards the price of the item your asking for. If you like peace come anytime except from June 15 to Aug. 15 and definitely not in Nov. 20 to Jan. 5 (the hottest time). Now the advantage of those days is that all the restaurants, the trips outside the hotel, the disco on the 3rd floor of the Convention Center and hundred of recreational activities for the whole family are open almost every day (Not during Low season). BEWARE: The Gym & the Spa are old. just don't use those but the mega pool next to the Convention center (where Presidents have met for dialogues and were I watched the Soccer World Cup of 94 in the big screen.) is out of this world gigantic with the most amazing Bar on top of the cascade. Use to been run by my old friend Salvador who retired from the Hotel after 30 years of service. If you don't like where you're staying just ask them to show you around the suites and apartments to get what you want. How do you think I got to stay in all and see them all, JUST ASK !

Hotel Irotama: no es lo que parece
By ,

By ,

Very Nice Resort
By ,
I am an American. I read really terrible reviews about Irotama Resort after I booked a week there through Interval International. I came with some concern but was more than pleasantly surprised. The negative reviews I read were not the Irotama Resort I experienced. At Irotama XXI, my accommodations were clean, modern, comfortable and of the level that I am accustomed to when I travel internationally or domestically. The staff is congenial and quite helpful. The resort has plenty of security, therfore, I felt safe. The city of Santa Marta has lots of tourist and I felt safe there also. The restaurants are equally fine. Good food and service. The beach, gym, spa and pool, etc. are well maintained. There is some construction going on but it did not interfere with my enjoyment. I have nothing but good things to say about the resort. It is expensive but I believe I got what I paid for. I would most definitely come back again.

Gran Error
By ,

total disappointment
By ,
I went with my wife and her parents for a 5 day trip to hotel Irotama. We were paying over $600 a night for the two rooms. The hotel was under construction. We were not put in the rooms we paid for because the hotel was over booked. The rooms were old and falling apart. I spoke with the night manager who agreed to let us leave. We were given letter that we checked out and told we would receive a refund. They would not give us a refund and we had to dispute the charges. We are now working with American Express to get this solved. The hotel manager lied to us. We were cheated. We paid $600 a night, we put in lesser room and the hotel was under construction should the hotel not give us a refund?

Irotama the worst Hotel in Colombia
By ,
My Wife and I travel extensively and are very easy going. I can’t remember any time that we have been so disappointed with a hotel. We went expecting a 5 start hotel and found a disaster zone. Most of the hotel was under construction. Our room was extremely disappointing. We were paying around $300 per night and the room had had worn out furniture and in the bathroom the shower door was falling off. The hotel was not clean or nice and the beach was littered with trash. The hotel was advertised as “all meals included” but we were given little points cards. Upon arriving we went to lunch but were told we only had enough points for one of us to have lunch. At night the card said that we could have a glass of wine but were told by the waiter that we couldn’t. The next morning we checked out and the hotel staff did not even care why we were leaving nor why we were disappointed; they just wanted us to pay more money to cancel our package. Please do not stay in this hotel.

Bad experience at the Irotama Santa Marta :(
By ,
This is the worst hotel i have been in Colombia. There are of course worse hotels, but this one is really a rip-off. I felt really disappointed with my room, with the spinning room, with the beach access, with all the surroundings barely done (like they were working on it and the workers just abandoned it). Staff was really not friendly, and i was surprised because i have been in other hotels in Colombia (even 3 stars) and the people were always ready to help and friendly to the guests. I just left the next day, i demanded the cancellation of my stay and a refund. Thanks to the Credit Card company that helped me with this "inconvenience". If you dont mind to be ripped-off and want to stay in a 1 star hotel that charges like a 5 star one, then visit this one. Don't waste your time and money here at the Irotama.
