Rio Othon Palace, Rio de Janeiro

Arriving in Rio and taking the cab from the airport to the hotel was like being in a movie. The hotel lobby was spacious with a 'grand' image. Then we waited to check in. And we waited. And waited. And waited. There were only 5 people in the line and we were second in line with two people speaking to reception. Which was manned by two people. Who weren't very please to be working so near Christmas. We got our rooms sorted and to be honest, the rooms look a bit run down. The view is great though. Then there is the night market just outside the hotel with some of the cheapest stuff you can find in Brazil on sale (when I say cheap, I still mean touristy cheap though). Location wise, what can I say, it's the Copacabana. Breakfast was a bit hot too as the morning sun pierced through our skin as we ate. At night we ate at the restaurant with a nice view of the beach. However as there were renovations going on - we had to go right to the 3rd floor for the bathrooms (this was at the 30th floor or so).

surprisingly dirty rooms and unpleasant staff. Towels were not clean. price was quite high as compared to others on the beach. The rooftop pool was nice.

Great location, across the street from beach. No premium charges for room service. Shower goes from ice cold to scolding hot without warning. Only drawback. Good for families.

A few points: *Old furniture in hotelroom.Open the door and you�re back in the 70�s. *Minibar was hot!!Temperature was way higher then even our room! *We arrived around 10:30a.m but the room was not available untill 15:30p.m. Wasted a beautiful sunny day! *The pool is smaller than my bathtub at home. *Maybe worst of all:looking at the price we paid, I think this hotel is a scandal.I feel robbed. I would never recomend this hotel to friends or family. *The view was great though but not as perfect as if we would have gotten our promised and paid front ocean view room.And the bed that was also supposed to be king size bed were 2 single beds arranged as a king size bed.

Location: Cross the street, an you are on Copacabana
The Room: Cheerfull, modern with view over the see and Copacabana
Service: polite, helpfull, but not all speaks English,
Swimmingpool on the top, massage, sauna, hardwork etc
Overall: I'll be back!

Great location, nice room.
Decoration is luxurious but outdated.
Staff nice but not paying attention to clients.
