Anse Chastanet Resort, SOUFRIèRE

I would think this place was pretty awesome had I not stayed at LaDera first. A great resort...second only to LaDera on St. Lucia.

Awesome hotel for adventure loving people as wellas the beach and nature lovers. The accomodations are awesome as long as you do not need a tv and phone. This exclusive hotel has amazing SCUBA diving, hikes, tours and fishing. I was there for just over aweek and wish I had been there at least 2 more. Great place to relax or to be active. The hotel has many outings for those who want action, and a waitresses at the beach for the bums. The service can be a little slow but you are on island time as they say enjoy. Everyone should try to make it to the Ansa Chastanet.

My husband and I spent our honeymoon here in Oct 99' and we would love to go back. Yes, the rooms are built into the side of a mountain, yes there are many steps to get to your room, the restaurant and then the beach, but this resort is so beautiful you can overlook that. This resort gives you a true Caribbean experience! No, there is no air conditioning, but you are in the Caribbean for goodness sake! It's tropical! Unless you camp out in your all-inclusive walled in resort w/ cushy air conditioned room the entire trip, you will feel the humidity! While we were there, we actually needed a light sheet every night because of the cool breezes off the Pitons. The food was very good, 5 course meals, gourmet style in an open air restaurant, but with a relaxed island style. Relaxed breakfast, tea in the afternoon...very respectable. No, there are no TV's, no newspapers, no news of the outside, but if you really want to forget the stress of your daily life, this place will do that for you. They have plenty of board games to play and a wall of books in any language you can imagine. You are encouraged to leave behind reading material for future guests. They have their own marine reserve with some of the best snorkeling anywhere in the world, and I mean that. I have snorkeled at 4 sites in the South Pacific and around many other islands in the Caribbean and I was really impressed with the quality of marine life in their reef. This island makes it's money off eco-tourism, so make sure you take the rainforest hike, it's very interesting. Anse Chastenet offers many day trips such as sailing, shopping, hiking etc.... take advantage of them! They are inexpensive and very interesting. This resort also offers many miles of hiking trails and mountain bikes. Bottom line? We can't stop talking about going back. One note: this resort is for adults, not small children, they will get bored. I have recommended this resort to many of my friends and one day perhaps, we will go back. Of course, that may take awhile, there are many, many more islands to visit first!

Romantic location, yes. Romantic setting, yes. Romantic views, yes. Sitting in 100% humidity at 90 degrees... with no airconditioning... um not romantic. 100+ Steps from small beach to restaraunt, then 100 more steps up to your room. This hotel is on a mountain side, don't forget it. Head Chef from the UK, not exactly known for their fine dining. There are much better places to spend your hard earned $$$ Though if you honestly love steps, love high humidity, hate airconditioning, and don't care about food quality, then this is absolutely the resort for you!

I must say that there are few places that I have been that can compare to Anse Chastanet. This place is fabulous. We stayed in one of the Hillside rooms and it was plain old paradise. The accommodation was spacious and layered with local art works. On one rainy day I can`t remember moving. It was that tranquil. The black sand beach due to volcanic activity many years ago, was really nice. Must do it again.

My husband and I visited this exquisit resort in July 2000 for our honeymoon. It was everything we dreamed of for this special occasion. Our room was completely open to the outdoors and was surrounded by lush vegetation and overlooked the beautiful Piton Mountains. The service was friendly and we soon felt like part of a family. If you are looking to experience the culture of St.Lucia this is a must. The scuba diving is great and thsi resort has a spectacular reef right off the beach. A school of tuna swam over our heads and my husband was so excited. If you need A.C. telephones and other amenaties you would not enjoy this resort. It is very natural and romantic. The food could have been better, but with all of the other benefits, the trip was excellent!
