Great Hotel, can't wait to return:)
Holiday Inn review
Ok first things first, the star rating of the holiday inn PV varies between 2 and 5 stars depending what website you goto. I have stayed in all stars of hotels and this hotel is about a 3.5 star. For one thing it’s an older hotel and a bit run down. The only place that has air conditioning is the hotel rooms & the fine Italian restaurant.
Rooms: normal looking hotel room, Central A/C works very well. Nice balcony, 27” TV with many English channels, in room Safe, no fridge, but if you have a laptop the wireless internet is free. Call the front desk for the password. Get a room that faces the pool or you will have a lovely view of apartment construction next door.
Pool: The Pool is one of the best in Puerto Vallarta. It has a volleyball net and two basketball hoops in the pool, and of coarse a swim up bar. The pool is super clean and the perfect temperature.
Restaurants: The buffet restaurant is open most of the time between 6am and 11pm it is outside and pigeons are running around on the ground looking for scraps, they never bothered anyone. The food is just ok, but a good selection and changes a little everyday.
The Italian restaurant is very nice and romantic, you order off a menu and if you have the all inclusive wristband then your meal is still free. The food is great and the selection is a nice change from the buffet. You need to make a reservation at the buffet restaurant the day before you want to eat in the Italian restaurant. Make it in the morning or it will be full. Also guys have to wear jeans or pants and dress shoes. No shorts, sandals, or muscle shirts. There is also a Mexican restaurant but it was closed for renovations while we were there.
Bars: There is two main bars but only one open at a time. The outdoor bar that closes at 6pm and the Lobby bar opens at 6pm and closes at 1am. The lobby bar has small shows daily at 10pm. If you want to go clubbing or dancing get in a taxi (50 pesos) and head downtown to the boardwalk. Halo and the Zoo are the best clubs. Plus the boardwalk has many great restaurants like Carlos O’Brian’s, Bubba Gump, Hard Rock Café, Hooters etc. All these bars and restaurant are American prices, some very expensive.
Tips: All Inclusive resorts always suggest tips for the staff, and you will get better service.
Hotel room maid: 20-30 Pesos everyday. Don’t wait and gave a bigger tip at the end of the week, she may be off that day and someone else might get it.
Buffet Restaurant: the waiters will get to know you after seeing you for 2-3 meals a day for a week or longer, so no need to tip them every meal. 20 pesos once per day is fine.
Italian Restaurant: 40-50 pesos.
Bars: they have a tip jar, so just throw in 10 pesos every few drinks.
Bellboy: 20 pesos
All in all tipping will cost you only around $80 US for the week.
