Howard Johnson Hotel Toronto Yorkville, Toronto

This is the worst hotel I've ever stayed in in any city in North America. It's dirty and run down, but more important the staff are incredibly rude. Major incidents were the following. The morning after we arrived, staff rang the room to ask whether we had found a previous guest's mobile phone charger. I searched the room and rang back to say it wasn't there. They then rang me again five minutes later to demand I search it again. Five minutes after the third phone call, staff appeared at the door and insisted on searching the room again. At no point did they apologise, just barging in and running round all the wall sockets. The second day, the maid threw out one of our bags - a shopping bag full of books, left on the bed. Staff admitted this has happened before, but refused to apologise or to do anything at all about it, except to bring the housekeeping staff round first thing in the morning when I was still in bed. I never found out what the point of that was, and my repeated requests to see the general manager were all refused. Central Howard Johnson's management have refused even to accept a complaint and just tell me to call the hotel switchboard to complain. Steer clear of this hotel, and beware of Howard Johnson generally - they have stated that they do not have any control over their hotel's behaviour.
