Worst Stay In a Hotel Ever
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/24/04
For a hotel that bills itself as the premiere hotel of Brandon, we expected much more.
After checking in, the problems presented themselves immediately. The newly renovated rooms were impressive enough, until we noticed that apparently soundproofing and privacy was not a priority. Until 11pm, we were bombarded with yelling not only from the pool area and the halls, but adjacent rooms as well.
Cut to 2:45AM when my wife was awakened by swearing echoing through the pool area and spotted a fleet of Brandon City Police and rental security dealing with various 20 somethings in the pool area and actually sitting in the hot tub.
(At 11pm, a pool closing was posted, but when pool doors are not locked, and mass consumption of alcohol from the hotel-owned bar next door is promoted, mix in whatever amateur sporting team, this is what apparently results)
After which, the fleet of security merely gave a slap on the wrist and allowed the offenders to "return" to their rooms-which really meant that they could run through the hotel again with liqour in their hands.
3:45 AM...more young men enter the unlocked pool area and proceed to remove ALL their clothing. Some climb into the hot tub with their beers, but others feel so comfortable as to check out the pool area. NAKED. So now you have 3 naked men sitting in the hot tub and running through the pool area with beer. Really classy. After we called and complained, the police and security again returned.
4:30AM....We hear people running through the halls and knocking on people's doors. Once again we call to complain, once again security asks the offenders 'not to do it again'.
6:00AM...the boys are now giving girls piggy back rides through the halls.
When approached the next morning, the hotel receptionist mentioned these guests normally stay at the Victoria Inn (also owned by the Royal Oak Inn) as a means of justification. When we informed her that we would be checking out and not staying for our scheduled two nights, she offered to call another hotel for us. (possible the Victoria Inn) To their credit however, we were fully reimbursed. Which is a no brainer in lieu of the inconviences incurred during our stay, and trying to find a hotel afterwards.
