They gave room away!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/6/09
They gave our reservation to someone else. We gave credit card numbers to these people and had confirmation...We had to drive to Regina as all other hotels were booked in Brandon, and all along the route...We stood at the Royal Oak Inn counter for half an hour waiting for them to tell us what was obvious, they'd given our reservation away to someone else...No apologies, I kid you not...all they cared about was that their rooms were full and that was it.... It was sleeting and so a stormy icy trip to Regina...and I, like others on here, want to warn you to stay elsewhere. Not Royal Oak Inn and suites..Royal Joke.... Ugh!!!! they are making me give it one star and I never even stayed there, did I?

On-line reservations not honoured
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/24/07
I made reservations for a themed room at the hotel. It was done through the hotel web site and then confirmed by e-mail by the front desk manager. I spoke to my son of this room getting him all excited and looking forward to our trip. I called the night before we were planning on leaving for our trip to Brandon to see if we could arrange an earlier check-in. It was at that time that I was informed that my reservation did not exist. No explanation was given to me. I e-mailed them the confirmation I had received. As well, I made several requests to speak to a manager and never was I able to speak to one. I cancelled my trip, my son, who is 8 years old was very upset and I was extremely irritated. I reserved the children

you be the judge
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/11/06
suppose you book a poolside room for a 7-year old's birthday party, you lug all the supplies into the room, parents arrive and drop off their children, the kids put on their suits, then you are informed that the pool and waterslide will not be available for use till the next day. the girl at the front desk apologizes for "any inconvenience" and offers the opportunity to move to the victoria inn (how do you do that with a bunch of other people's kids when the parents aren't around to notify?) then they offer a larger room....no extra services...just a larger room. offered the use of a couple of board games (have they ever seen kids at a party before?)...not practical. how about 3 bags of microwave popcorn and free use of the movie rentals? that was ok, except the two kids movies available wouldn't play (until after 8pm...kids were gone by then) and the all the hotel staff could do was inform us that the problem was with the movie company and out of their control. at checkout there were more apologies...but again, no offers of compensation of any kind. paid full price, minus the movies that were too late for the kids to enjoy.

Heated parking in Wintertime A++++
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/14/05
I recently stayed at the Royal Oak, the weather outside turned ugly, a Manitoba Blizzard, the highways were closed I had to stay in Brandon. When I checked into the hotel the clerk upgraded me for free to a suite with the heated under ground parking, what a surprize. The next morning it was -32 Celcius, I drove out of the parkade and my vehicle was warm and I did not have to scrape my windows. I will definately stay at The Royal Oak on my next trip down the #1 highway.

Great Cleaning Policy
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/13/04
They had a policy called guarenteed 110% clean, if the room was found dirty in any way they would offer a free night stay plus give 10% off my next stay. Needless to say the room was perfect.

Worst Stay In a Hotel Ever
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/24/04
For a hotel that bills itself as the premiere hotel of Brandon, we expected much more.

After checking in, the problems presented themselves immediately. The newly renovated rooms were impressive enough, until we noticed that apparently soundproofing and privacy was not a priority. Until 11pm, we were bombarded with yelling not only from the pool area and the halls, but adjacent rooms as well.

Cut to 2:45AM when my wife was awakened by swearing echoing through the pool area and spotted a fleet of Brandon City Police and rental security dealing with various 20 somethings in the pool area and actually sitting in the hot tub.
(At 11pm, a pool closing was posted, but when pool doors are not locked, and mass consumption of alcohol from the hotel-owned bar next door is promoted, mix in whatever amateur sporting team, this is what apparently results)

After which, the fleet of security merely gave a slap on the wrist and allowed the offenders to "return" to their rooms-which really meant that they could run through the hotel again with liqour in their hands.

3:45 AM...more young men enter the unlocked pool area and proceed to remove ALL their clothing. Some climb into the hot tub with their beers, but others feel so comfortable as to check out the pool area. NAKED. So now you have 3 naked men sitting in the hot tub and running through the pool area with beer. Really classy. After we called and complained, the police and security again returned.

4:30AM....We hear people running through the halls and knocking on people's doors. Once again we call to complain, once again security asks the offenders 'not to do it again'.

6:00AM...the boys are now giving girls piggy back rides through the halls.

When approached the next morning, the hotel receptionist mentioned these guests normally stay at the Victoria Inn (also owned by the Royal Oak Inn) as a means of justification. When we informed her that we would be checking out and not staying for our scheduled two nights, she offered to call another hotel for us. (possible the Victoria Inn) To their credit however, we were fully reimbursed. Which is a no brainer in lieu of the inconviences incurred during our stay, and trying to find a hotel afterwards.
