Strathcona Hotel, Victoria

The Strathcona Hotel (which includes a Rooftop Patio with vollyball courts, the Sticky Wicket Pub, the Clubhouse restaurant/dancefloor, Big Bad Johns, and 919) is the MOST AMAZING venue to stay in when visiting Victoria. The staff are all incredibly pleasant and exhibit the West Coast laid back attitude without compromising great customer service. There's a reason this place is packed with locals!

The hotel and staff get top billing. I hope that they have continued success in all their future projects. The new patio is super! The nightclub is nice especially the dancefloor. I can't say enough about this place. The rooftop is cool on Sunday nights!!! Popular and lots of good times!

The Sticky Wicked was beyond HORRIBLE service. We were served the wrong order & were assured we would also get out correct order of drinks. Bartender didnt like that we didn't want to pay for what we were served and didn't order (One drink).Bartender just kept looking at us and shaking his head & I asked him is there was a problem and he said "You shouldn't drink a drink you don't want" and I replied "I'm a bartender and I know I shouldn't HAVE to drink a drink I didn't order, I was assured I'd get the drink I ordered and was told that you as a bartender know everything and that id like it" Regardless if a person likes it or not, they still didn't order that. CORRECT THE SITUATION I asked for the managers phone number and she kept telling me no and I said "I'm not from Victoria, but you are not making us want to come back here because this is very poor customer service. I don't need your bartender shaking his head at us because of a problem he created. Is this how you treat all your customers?" and she replied "Oh well honey then there you go, you don't even need to worry about coming back" Having worked in Restaurants & hotels the past 9 years, I know bad customer service when I see it. If you want a good place to eat, spend your valued money and walk up the street a bit, there's a great choice for restaurants and pubs for much better service. First off, she shouldn't have served the wrong drink knowingly!! When a customer has a bad experience, more people find out faster then if they have a good experience and working for a hotel, I've been making sure I tell all of my guests NOT to go to the Sticky Wicked. Remember that Sticky Wicked Staff!! It's not all about the tip, it's about giving good customer service and enjoying your guests so that they turn into repeat guests.

The staff at "Bad Johns" could use a few lesons in common courtesy. I will never go back and advise others not to as well

First off, we loved the location of the Strathcona... right next to the Sticky Wicket Pub, just two blocks from the water front, within quick walking distance of many great resturants. ...however, we were in Victoria on their two hottest days, and to our dismay, we found that there was no airconditioning in our Premium room. With the second best room type in the hotel, we had assumed that we could have room that could be cooled. Our room never went below 80 degrees, we couldn't even open the window more than two inches... it made it very hard to sleep. Not that the Strathcona has control over its guests, but very late in the night, people would storm through the halls, crashing into things and yelling loudly. Had the walls had more girth to them or we had an airconditioner to drown out the noise, this wouldn't have been a problem. I would probablt stay here again, but not during the summer, they were a good price and were very nice.
