Absolutely The Best Kept Secret in Victoria!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/4/08
The Royal Scot Suite Hotel is not the fanciest I have ever stayed in, but it is the Absolute Best Hotel I have ever stayed in. From the moment I checked in, all my needs were met, including some I didn't even know I had! Due to a medical condition, I had called ahead with special requirements for the cleaning of my room. All of them were met, and in addition, they placed a special bacterial air cleaner in the room.
The room was billed as a studio, but it really was a fully fitted out one bedroom apartment. The kitchen had an eating area for two, with good quality appliances and absolutely everything one would need to cook a meal and clean up afterward. The furnishings were tasteful, in excellent condition, and very, very comfortable. I was ready to move in!.
While the hotel doesn't have air conditioning, a fan in both the bedroom and the living-room,, plus windows that open, made the room very pleasant even in the 80 degree plus temperature. They even placed fans in the halls!
The staff were so kind and helpful (I use a walker and a motorized cart). A shuttle van is provided to the guests free of charge. One just asks for a ride and a handsome laddie in a kilt happily takes you to where you want to go (within a certain number of miles--there is a limit, even there!). Just call for pick-up when you are ready to return. We only needed to use the shuttle a couple of times since the Royal Scot is a short two blocks from the Parliament Buildings, the Inner Harbor, and the landmark Empress Hotel (I've stayed there before but the Royal Scot has them beat, for sure).
There is a gift shop with a little mini-grocery area off the lobby. There is also a lounge with coffee and tea available (although there is also coffee and tea fixings provided in the room). We didn't have an opportunity to try to the restaurant, but there is one on site that serves all three meals.
There is also a pool we didn't get to try. Next time I am going to book for at least a week. This hotel is reasonably priced for the area and is certainly worth the money with the availability of the kitchen. Great for a family!
They even gave us bottled water when we checked out! We had such a good trip and the Royal Scot was a huge part of our wonderful vacation.
Enjoy your stay!
