10 reviews for Lake Yellowstone Hotel & Cabins, Yellowstone Natl Park
Fantasyland
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/30/08
This place is wonderful! It is the best of both worlds.... the impact of nature at its most sublime surrounding a building that appears to have been dropped out of the sky from a southern plantation. When there is a string quartet playing Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" in the solarium while you sip a glass of wine or a cup of excellent coffee and watch boats sailing on the lake and the bison wander what more do you need at that point? Maybe George Clooney on my arm. If you want all the modern electronic gizmos and indoor pools go back to city life.... you don't belong here.

One of the best places to stay in the West
By Michael, 12/03/08
I lived in a lakeview room in the summer of 1987, right before the last major renovation. At the time, I managed the Lake Hotel Dining Room, and this was my employee housing...loved it! Now the hotel is renovated, but still maintains a quaint and historic charm. There are not many modern amenities like internet, cable TV, etc, but you get to stay by the largest lake at this elevation in the country. You are at over 7500 feet above sea level, and the view and the wild surroundings are simply unique and wonderful. If you like well kept, historic old hotels of the early 1900 vintage, you will love Lake Hotel in Yellowstone. Thumbs up!

Felt I had been there before

I felt as though I had gone back in time. Had a wonderful feeling about it. I am so happy I graced The Yellowstone Hotel. I will never forget it. I actually felt I had been there before.

Excellent value for in-park
By Paul L, 06/15/07
We stayed at one of the Lake Yellowstone Hotel Cabins. While some National Park cabins are very "rustic", or almost primitive, these were very nice. Our cabin was fairly roomy, with two double beds, desk and dresser. We had no trouble unpacking for our 4-day hiking trip. Very comfortable bed, and two good pillows on each. Service people were very friendly, but the hotel was somewhat short staffed, probably because it was early season. Dining options were limited this early in the season, and the main dining room in the hotel is somewhat pricey. Reservations are DEFINITELY needed, and should be booked when you make your reservations for lodging. Food was excellent, but servings were too large in my opinion. One entree would be adequate for two people. Breakfast service was slow, probably because of the early season short staffing problem, but the breakfast buffet was fine. We never ate lunch in the dining room, so I have no information on that. I didn't give it 5 stars, because it wasn't perfect. If you want to see the sights of Yellowstone, and hike some of the wonderful trails, this is an ideal place to stay NOTE - no in room phones or internet service.

History
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/25/07
Those looking for cable TV, WiFi and a spa have missed the idea of Yellowstone. The park is about escaping all of that. This old hotel is of a bygone era. I have stayed here many times both in cabins and in rooms with a view of the lake. It is a perfect place to return to after a vigourous day hike or a few days of backpacking. The dining room has the best food in the park and is best experienced later in the evening, after a shower and a beverage on the veranda listening to a pianist playing old standards. It is much preferable to any of the out of the park accomodations and you are well positioned for the next day's adventure.

best trip ever!
By Stephanie, 11/12/06
I had a wonderful time at lake hotel! the service was great and the lake was beautiful! the food was pricey but what do you expect in a tourist area? room decor was dated but who stays inside when you're in yellowstone? the staff were friendly and quick! the staff welcomes over one million visitors a year! it was impressive that they were full of so much energy in mid-september. i suggest that you ignore all negitive reviews and start booking the vacation of a lifetime!!!!!!

YOU NEED TO MAKE IT CHEAPER!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/07/06
I HATED HOW MUCH MONEY IT WAS!!! IT WAS HORRIBLE!!! If you make it like $25-$35 bucks, SO many people will stay there!! You need to improve by getting an indoor pool, indoor spa, office, and a WHOLE bunch more!!!!!!!!

Absolutely Wonderful Hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/02/06
We enjoy historical places. Service was great. We had a premium room overlooking Lake Yellowstone - a most peaceful view. The hotel was quiet - it had more adults than children. We enjoyed the string quartet in the sun room in the evenings. This is in the quietest village in the park because there are not a lot of attractions around. The dining room and service were very good. The food - although rather pricey- varied in quality. We plan to return and spend time just relaxing in the hotel. It would be nice to have chairs on the front porch the way it appeared in the historical photos.

Lake Yellowstone Hotel Cabins
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/07/06
We rented a big cabin with 2 twinbeds for us (2 adults 2 kids of 5 and 9). Space was just ok, everything quite new and clean. Lots of parking space. Quiet The breakfast in the hotel is just great and very generous. For dinner you better make reservations 2 weeks before arrival ! There is often too much traffic. You always can cancel a dinner, right? The Lake hotel is the best point to start trips all over the park. Its location is more convenient as Old Faithful or Mammoth. Do not go to any entrance hotel if you like nature ! They are usually in the middle of gas stations, saloon and western stores. Have Fun Michael Brandenburg

Don't miss this hotel, but get reservations early!
By Bob, 04/14/06
Being the oldest existing hotel in Yellowstone, this is still "piece of elagance" from years gone by. At one time this was the number one destination point in Yellowstone. To this day it is still just enough off the "beaten path" that there isn't quite the congestion, or the numbers of people, that you find at many of the other developed areas. The ambiance is fantastic, the service is excellent, and the food is the best in the Park. The views from the dining area of Yellowstone ,either morning or evening, are truly breathtaking. While in Yellowstone, if you can get reservations, don't miss this one. Or, in lieu of that, make a point of visiting the hotel, and simply learning about it's history.
