it was nice enough...for a HOTEL.
By JohnS, 5/16/09
I stayed at this resort with a friend who was attending a conference of some sorts. I didnt attend the conference myself, but my friend had asked if I wanted to tag along since I had nothing planned for the weekend and it was free. I looked on the website for ideas on what to do on my own at the resort and thought I would be fine after looking at the variety of recreational activities the had listed. Once i arrived however, i realized how inaccurate this list was. The indoor pool was closed, and the outdoor pool (though open) was filled with leaves and dirt. Many of the other activities they had listed were not available, either at the time I went or possibly at all (I went in the late spring). The were no boat rentals available. The "hiking" turned out to be a 15 minute walk through a field. There were also no kids activities, which didnt matter to me, but I could see being a problem for families vacationing here. The resturants were very good, and the service was relatively nice as well. the staff was very friendly, but as other reviewers have noted, the appeared to be no one over the age of 22 at this resort. There were many additional servies provided (computers to use in the lobby, tennis courts, a game room, phones in the room), but what isnt mentioned on their website is that you are also charged for all of these services. So if you were hoping to play some ping pong or make a call, expect to be charged for it, and not at reasonable rates either. The rooms were spacious, had large televisions, and comfortable beds, but for a resort, they were less than adequate. My conclusion after my weekend stay was that it was a nice enough place to stay for a few days, but not for a resort. Since it was free for me, I enjoyed the time I spent at the resort, but if I had payed for it, I would not have been happy. For the resort like prices that are charged, it definitely isnt worth the money.

Excellent Service and a Perfect Setting
By Robert, 8/12/08
My wife and I wanted to stay semi close to home for our honeymoon, so I suggested Heidel House because I have so many great memories from family vacations there as a child. It ended up being a perfect choice. We loved walking along the lake at sunset which was really breathtaking. Our dinner at the Grey Rock restaurant was amazing as was the Sunday Brunch. One day we had a couples massage at Evensong Spa which was very relaxing, and on the other days there wasn't a shortage of things to do between the pools, game room (we love ping pong), tennis, etc. All the staff at the resort and spa were extremely friendly and helpful. I really couldn't have asked for better service or a better setting.

My Dream Wedding
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/2/08
We had a complete opposite experience from the previous reviewer. Our wedding was perfect from start to finish. It was everything my husband and I had hoped for. Every staff member we came in contact with treated us with exceptional service. The resorts wedding planner took care of every detail. The lake setting was beautiful and we received many compliments on the food. We can not wait to go back to the Heidel House Resort again and again.

Lots of Problems
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/23/08
I agree with the last two reviews 100%. Linens, Price, Management Experience are all issues I experienced. I have even heard horror stories about a recent wedding. This place seems to be ran by people who are only concerned with making a dollar and less worried about customers satisfaction. They are operating soley on what this place used to be like. I can't imagine this places reputation can continue for much longer.

Not Worth the Price
By Sunny, 6/26/08
The grounds and location are beautiful. However they charge resort prices when the rooms, furniture, linens etc. are on par with a mid to lower market chain hotel. On top of that they don't even provide for free amenities that most mid market chain hotels provide. They don't provide bathrobes, they charge for newspapers, they charge for local calls, they charge for use of the computers in the room off the lobby. They have a game room but charge you for ping pong and fooze ball. They advertised a kids club from Memorial Day until Labor Day but still had not started it as of the last week of June. The lake was closed due to recent flooding. While the lack of boating activities was not their fault, there was no explanation of what was going on. I never say anyone in management or at the front desk who appeared over the age of 25. While this in of itself is not a problem the overall impression is that of a nice property passed its prime managed by afar and staffed with college students or recent college graduates. Definitely not worth the price.

A Fall & Christmas stay (Dickens' program) were wonderful visits. We look forward to returning for another stay.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/3/06
We felt the atmosphere was warm and receptive. The Sun Room waitresses always had a cheery "Good Morning" for us. We have found Heidel House to be the perfect place to go for a get-away.
