Rest & Relaxation at The Abbey
By Molly, 01/18/10
The Abbey Resort is the perfect vacation spot when I was looking for a weekend of R&R. Its serene location and relaxed environment creates a perfect escape right on the shores of Lake Geneva. My recent visit included a fine meal at the Fontana Grill and an amazing full-body massage at the Avani spa. The food is fantastic – I especially recommend the grilled flat bread and the scallops. My time at the spa was just what I needed to decompress, and the therapist was wonderful. Can’t wait to go back!

WOW THE ABBEY IS BACK!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/18/08
Just came back from a weekend at the Abbey. Was plesantly surprised how Nice it was. I use to go there as a kid. The resort has had a major makeover since my last visit. Just an hours drive outside of Chicago suburbs on Lake Geneva in Wisconsin. The room was very large with a comfortable bed & a plasma tv, the bathroom even had granite(very nice). The food was so good I thought I was on a cruise. I recommend the Sat. night prime rib buffet(EXCELLENT) and the Sunday brunch was worth the whole trip..almost as good as the brunches in lasVegas. The staff was wonderful(friendly & attentive). As for night life go to the Waterfront Bar, they had a live band that was GREAT for dancing. Also, we went across the street to a place called "Chucks" a beer & shot kind of place. Both places were lots of fun. Looking forward to going back to the Abbey soon!!

Needs alot of help
By b, 03/12/08
When growing up the Abbey was the place to go to, great rooms, great service and a fun place, now its a second rate hotel. The rooms are ok, clean but small. The real problem is the staff and the restaurants. The staff is rude and just dont care. The restauants are over priced and the service is down right bad. We have stayed at the Abbey two times in the past five months and will not go back.On sunday night we had dinner at the dinning room, they had no servers, no bartenders, the busboy and host were taking orders and serveing. Dinner took almost three hours, and $200.00. I dont mind paying for a good price for a good meal, but this was bad, and no one even said sorry. In fact two tables left becuase they could not get service. When checking out the next day, i told the staff at the front desk, they could have cared less, all they said was " I guess we can tell the manager". I wrote two letters to the hotel manager and have yet to hear back, and this was about the bad stay in Oct. of 2007. For shame on me for trying a second time, do yourself a favor and look to other places there are many close by who want your business.

WE had to come back.
By Kara, 09/16/07
My husband and I went here on our 10th anniversary. I didn't want to leave. We were so immenesly relaxed....ahhh. The smells stayed with me for a few days. It was pricey for our income but, well worth it. We are going back 5 years later.

disappointed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/20/07
I'm happy we rec'd this stay @ the Abbey as a gift. I don't think we will go back. The rooms are nice, clean, and have all the things you need (ie: iron & board, coffee maker, fridge, microwave, safe, SMALL flat screen tv - could have used a DVD player)etc. But the biggest problem was SPACE. The bed was very comfortable but if you are 5'6" or shorter you'll need a step stool to get in & out of the bed. The bed was SO close to the wall that I ran into it when I got out of bed. The counter space in the bath, where the coffee maker is, was SMALL. The space at the end of the bed and the dresser was VERY narrow. Some of the doors on the nightstands were broken. The food was EXCELLANT. The receptionist wasn't friendly no smile or greeting, but the waiter was FANTASTIC. The spa was a HUGE disappointment. The lady that gave me my massage was not informative & seemed to be in a rush. I asked about the products that were used and she wasn't very knowledgeable about them and very short with her comments. I wasn't consulted about my comfort etc.I found out later that there is a shop with products to purchase but the care giver never mentioned it. I wasn't showen around the spa. My husband rec'd a massage and afterwards told me he was shown the sauna, pool, etc. I wasn't. Also my husband said they had fruit & bottles of water, I wasn't shown or offered anything. AGAIN the treatment rooms are SMALL we kept running into each other. The robe I was given was yellowed around the coller, inside the back, armpit area, & at the end of the sleeves. When we tried to use the elevators, I've had 5 knee surgeries, the staff plus carts would be using the elevator and didn't make space for us. We felt lost and saw many staff but NEVER did any of them ask if we need information. When we asked most of the time the person didn't know the answer to our question. When we checked out we called for assistance with our bags, we were on hold for 15 mins & couldn't receive assistance! I'm 57 yrs. old, 5'6", 148 lbs, just recovered from cancer, and have had knee surgeries. My husband is 57 yrs. old 6', 220 lbs, and has had back and shoulder surgery. To have to carry our own luggage WAS VERY uncomfortable. We saw staff in the hallway & they DIDN'T offer to help!! I'm so disappointed. It looks like a great place. The grounds are BEAUTIFUL & very well kept. The lake view was VERY relaxing, (we had a lake side room). As a gift it was enjoyable but if we had to pay for the stay I don't think I would have been able to relax because of the frustaion over the service & size. We have had bigger Holiday Inn rms. I love body probucts & am upset that I didn't know about the spa store. I saw the area but it was dark so I thought it was part of the spa that you needed a appointment for the service. I hope it was just a bad day BUT THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT THE SPACE, SMALL, SMALL, SMALL. Thank you. Sincerely, A couple from the Q.C.A., Il

Excellent - will go again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/12/07
The location is great. You can walk over to the lake. We went to the Abbey to relax, and that's exactly what we did! Very relaxing atmosphere. The room was great, clean, nice shower, cable TV, fridge to store food and a microwave. Also a little coffee machine which we used. We had dinner here also which was great. Also used the pool and the whirlpool they had. We will definately go here again!

Reservations - Just Terrible
By Julie, 08/14/06
I've heard the Abbey has gone down hill but this is ridiculous. They could not find our reservation from last year; they couldn't guarantee a room reservation this year and the prices just sky rocketed. The food is extremely expensive and the girl on the reservation phone was not helpful at all. Be careful!!!!

Lacks service, activities
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/20/06
Food choices, service, activities and value a disappointment. Maybe ok for a conference but not much fun for a get away. Would not go back. Redone rooms are nice but can't save a dull place.
