disappointed

I'm happy we rec'd this stay @ the Abbey as a gift. I don't think we will go back. The rooms are nice, clean, and have all the things you need (ie: iron & board, coffee maker, fridge, microwave, safe, SMALL flat screen tv - could have used a DVD player)etc. But the biggest problem was SPACE. The bed was very comfortable but if you are 5'6" or shorter you'll need a step stool to get in & out of the bed. The bed was SO close to the wall that I ran into it when I got out of bed. The counter space in the bath, where the coffee maker is, was SMALL. The space at the end of the bed and the dresser was VERY narrow. Some of the doors on the nightstands were broken. The food was EXCELLANT. The receptionist wasn't friendly no smile or greeting, but the waiter was FANTASTIC. The spa was a HUGE disappointment. The lady that gave me my massage was not informative & seemed to be in a rush. I asked about the products that were used and she wasn't very knowledgeable about them and very short with her comments. I wasn't consulted about my comfort etc.I found out later that there is a shop with products to purchase but the care giver never mentioned it. I wasn't showen around the spa. My husband rec'd a massage and afterwards told me he was shown the sauna, pool, etc. I wasn't. Also my husband said they had fruit & bottles of water, I wasn't shown or offered anything. AGAIN the treatment rooms are SMALL we kept running into each other. The robe I was given was yellowed around the coller, inside the back, armpit area, & at the end of the sleeves. When we tried to use the elevators, I've had 5 knee surgeries, the staff plus carts would be using the elevator and didn't make space for us. We felt lost and saw many staff but NEVER did any of them ask if we need information. When we asked most of the time the person didn't know the answer to our question. When we checked out we called for assistance with our bags, we were on hold for 15 mins & couldn't receive assistance! I'm 57 yrs. old, 5'6", 148 lbs, just recovered from cancer, and have had knee surgeries. My husband is 57 yrs. old 6', 220 lbs, and has had back and shoulder surgery. To have to carry our own luggage WAS VERY uncomfortable. We saw staff in the hallway & they DIDN'T offer to help!! I'm so disappointed. It looks like a great place. The grounds are BEAUTIFUL & very well kept. The lake view was VERY relaxing, (we had a lake side room). As a gift it was enjoyable but if we had to pay for the stay I don't think I would have been able to relax because of the frustaion over the service & size. We have had bigger Holiday Inn rms. I love body probucts & am upset that I didn't know about the spa store. I saw the area but it was dark so I thought it was part of the spa that you needed a appointment for the service. I hope it was just a bad day BUT THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT THE SPACE, SMALL, SMALL, SMALL. Thank you. Sincerely, A couple from the Q.C.A., Il
