Boy were we fleeced.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/23/11
Rooms were not available anywhere and it was getting late, so when a desk clerk at a hotel in Ohio told us that he could check for availabilty at a hotel in Wheeling, we agreed and booked the room. We would never have gone inside it if we had not already had reservations. As others have reported the halls and elevator were filfthy. My husband made sure that I was locked in the room before he went to the ice machine. We were so concerned about the hotel that we slept in our clothes and did not touch anything that was not necessary. We left early in the morning. We will say that the bed was clean. I just called to check prices and we paid $21 more than they quoted me tonight. I noticed that others paid much more than us and we had a king size room. I guess that the later it gets, the more they charge. We agree! RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN. We might have slept in our car, but not in that neighborhood. What were the people smoking that gave this dump 5 stars.

DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE
By stephen, 8/17/11
The hotel lobby was dismal, empty and dirty; however, there was not where else to stay. Hallways to room were dirty and carpet had hugh rips. Room was hideous - filthy. Cigarette ashes all over, tables and phonehad filth that could be scratched offwith your thumbnail. Bathroom toilet had hair all over it and a bottle cap left on it. Chairs were soiled, carpet, microwave and fridge had debris all over. It was awful. On the bright side - no bugs. It cost us $150.00!!

disgusting
By laffnlady2002, 7/18/11
Room was filthy and disgusting. It looked like there had been a murder outside our door. Room had dead bugs, cobwebs, bug traps, and smelled disgusting. Paper thin linens and washcloth sized towels. It was 1am, and the internet confirmed there were no hotels within 50 miles available, so not much choice. Took awhile to check in, as the clerk had to count his entire money drawer while we waited, every bill, every quarter, dime, and nickel. (He thankfully skipped the pennies.) I guess taking our credit card would have confused him. As one reviewer suggested, the back of the car probably would have been better. The Snake Club next door was dumping beer bottles all night long. (What the heck is a Snake Club anyways?) Breakfast was a family size box of Frosted Flakes crumbs on a dirty table in the front lobby. The trail to the river is hardly a trail, frequented only by dogs going to the bathroom. The final insult was the next morning when we saw the cleaning person with their cart get off the elevator with a dog, which then went to the bathroom on the soda machine, with not even the slightest of reprimand from its owner. Any positive review of this hotel must be written by the management, as this place needs to be condemned. What we liked: We survived and can tell the story, our clothes stopped smelling like the room about a week later, we didnt get bedbugs, the bridge is pretty, and the management was actually very nice.

AVOID!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/6/11
We paid a litle over $100 for one night, for three adults. There was a big event in the area, so rooms were scarce and we decided to take a chance. Big mistake! The room was FILTHY- we didn't take showers because it was so bad, and didn't walk around barefoot because the carpet was sticky in some spots. And, there was a crack in the ceiling over one of the beds that leaked. The "continental breakfast" consisted of a family size box of Frosted Flakes, a gallon of milk sitting out with no ice or refrigeration, and plastic bowls. When we complained about the lack of cleanliness, the desk clerk told us they don't usually rent out those rooms! Avoid this place - a health inspector has obviously never been there!

THANK You for everything
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/24/10
Talk about anything and everything going wrong. Car broke down in snowstorm, my hubby and I stayed at the hotel and it was nice. The Night front desk girl went out of her way to help us as we were 2000 miles from home. Our room was clean, I dont know why people complain. Our cleaning lady Cindy, even helped us carry groceries to our room. Thank you again for making a nightmare, a wonderful stay.

better to sleep in a heated tent at a campground
the front desk people were nice, and helpful... no problem there. it was snowing outside when we got our room. as we entered the room we noticed "immidiately" that the room temperature was "exactly" the same as it was outside. the rooms were not preheated at all. the heater was off. so we turned on the heater, and the air blew so little hot air that it actually took till morning to start to warm the room up. it was horrible. as a result my wife got a coughing cold, and has not slept for the last 4 days straight. nice front desk people or no... DO NOT stay at this hotel, for the money especially it is a ripoff. spend a little more andf stay at a REAL hotel.

Satisfied!
By WinLose, 11/10/09
Although the exterior of the Inn was in very bad condition, my brother-in-law & I were very satisfied with the accomendations. The room we had for two nights was very clean. We never experienced any of the horrors of what other people had experienced over the years, which is proof that they were trying to improve the quality of the Inn. Dick & Laurie were very friendly & helpful towards us. The location was great, with two good restaurants within two blocks of the Inn, even though the hotel restaurant was closed down. The hotel even provided free shuttle to the casino, although neither one of us gambled. Were planning on coming back in the distant future, and would recommend the Inn too anyone.

We cant wait to come to Wheeling again.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/25/09
While gambling at the casino and they had no rooms, we asked where we could stay, even though they said the Wheeling Inn the said check the rooms first , yes we were nervous but we decided being late to give it a chance. What a suprise, the check in lady was charming and professional and made sure we had just the type of room we wanted. The room was clean, everything worked, we wanted a cup of coffee, the lady made us a fresh pot at 1AM. We stayed another night to just enjoy the town of Wheeling, and at her suggestion, we went to the Prison in Moundsville and had a great time. The night views of the suspension bridge were stunning. Our stay was inexpensive, and we will make this our permanent stop in Wheeling WV.
