Amongst Seattle's Best
By ,
Ambiance, Ambiance, Ambiance! Old world feel by decor, warm atmosphere, with the right pitch of energy. No hussle, bustle here, rather a quiet approach to a classic combination - the right mix of RELAXATION and "let's get out and see the city." The ONLY negative, no "view" on the entry level. Given it's location at the peak of Madison Ave rise one would expect to have a captivating view of downtown below. However, these views are only attainable once you've entered one of the hotels many "room(s) with a view." The staff is and always has been amongst the most service-oriented in the city ... and always with a smile. Unique characteristic - they commonly will remember your name. Best way to describe the overall vibe? SUBTLE SWANK!!!

wonderful service
The Sorrento is a "classic" not only because of it's architecture, but also the fact that customer service still exists there. The rooms were nicely appointed, and the staff were excellent. The neighborhood is a little noisy (near Virginia Mason Emergency Room). Would definitely stay there again!

Going Down Hill
By ,
I have heard amazing things about this hotel in the past. I recently was a guest at private event at the Sorrento as well as an overnight guest of the hotel. I have to say I was disappointed with the experience as a whole. Management was overly rude and unaccommodating to my event host, sales was completely over worked, and communication from department to department was non existent. I emphatically agree with the previous post. This hotel may have been fantastic in the past but it has gone down hill in a big way.

Terrible Management
By ,
Avoid this hotel at all costs, management are rude to guests (us) and staff alike. It's no wonder the service was so poor, I can't imagine what it must be like to work in that environment. Nice building, good location, great food (eventually), but if anything goes wrong, don't expect management to care.

Christmas Experience
By ,
Hi, My husband and I have stayed at the Hotel Sorrento on two occasions. On the second occasion - - as usual the room was lovely and well appointed, although I do find it a very noisy area near the Hospital and nightclub across the road. (As written by another reviewer). Our problem was, as it was xmas, despite being Hotel guests, we were unable to get a drink on a number of occasions. They had utilised all the bar space with dining facilities for outside guests. In view of the location you are along way from the nearest facility to have drink/dinner other than room service and we ended up walking to the Fairmont Hotel to have a drink at the bar on xmas night. I do feel that they should cater for in house guests better than they did on this occasion. Sadly, I wouldn't stay there again despite having access to the town car it is a reasonable way from shops and restaurants and they were not in the least concerned that in house guests were not able to access their facilities.

Exceptional hotel!
By ,
Whether or not a person will enjoy a stay at the Sorrento comes down to one thing: If you can appreciate vintage architecture and the quirks that go with it. Yes, the bathroom was a little on the small side, but white marble and the round porthole window that opened to the night view were quite entertaining. I didn't need any more room. There really weren't any problems related to the age of the building, but I love old buildings abd would much prefer it to a generic new place. I cannot say enough about the staff; it's small enough to have a friendly atmosphere and they know who you are. They understand the concept behind the word "service," unlike a lot of others. It was very nice to have a ***free*** Town Car & driver to take us downtown and drop us at a restaurant, and then pick us up again later, 5 minutes after I called. The food was fabulous! I am still drooling at the thought of the homemade scones full of dried fruit. We had to leave one morning at 5:30am; even though the kitchen doesn't actually open until 6:00 they had 2 continental breakfasts (with scones) waiting for us at the desk. I had a huge walk-in closet which was nice because I stayed on business for several days and had a lot of stuff. The Bar: Located in a large lounge full of small, intimate sitting areas of overstuffed furniture with huge wooden open beam ceiling and tall palm trees. I looked forward to having time each day to be able to sit in there. There was a gentleman playing a baby grand piano. It was gorgeous and relaxing. A room of that quality could never be built today; it would be cost-prohibitive. The hotel was a little noisy because of the location next door to Virginia Mason Hospital's emergency dept. But I have found that the only quiet location in Seattle is the 20th floor of the Westin and it doesn't bother me. I have stayed at several of the better hotels in Seattle and the Sorrento is my favorite by far. They make you feel like a million bucks. I probably would not recommend it, though, for someone who is annoyed by old things.

Incredible service
By ,
The staff had to be hired for thier personalitys. Our driver (ED) was well informed of what to do in the city and exceptionally friendly. The young lady who worked the valet parking was sweet and humorous and ready to assist. The service made the stay worth the price.

Get ready to shell out the corn!
By ,
The room was fabulous! Everything was fabulous. Oh, except three small things. 1- Get ready to listent to the downtown noise, fire trucks, sirens, chatter, ect., outside your window unless you pay more to stay up higher. 2- Get ready to tip, tip and more tip and oh, did I mention tip? The car MUST be parked in their garage which requires a $25.00 tax more commonly referred to as VALET PARKING! 3- Then we had an unfortunate situation arise with our family which caused us to check out a day early. What an aweful suprise to find out they charge $50 to check out early. Talk about highway robbery. For all the luxuries we had it was sure made up in one rude policy. It also lends the idea that they must be hurting for business. BUT WAIT...that's not all...WE ENJOYED OUR STAY VERY MUCH. It was romantic and lovely in every amenity. They really thought of everything. Of all the hotels I have stayed (million miler) around the world, this is the finest in pillows and more pillows. Great soaps, great security, nice choice of morning newspapers and what a touch; four custom made compact discs for music ambience. If I stay here again I will try to get higher than the fourth floor, I will make sure that the entire stay is prepaid on my bank card AND I would save to get a bigger room than their smallest. I would also remember to bring my own bottle water, soft drinks and a candle. It is worth the TIPS, TIPS and yes my car was $25.00 a night safer, maybe that is why the pillows were so soft?

Classic
By ,
I had always wanted to stay here, and then my girlfriend surprised me. It was SO perfect. The room was old-time beautiful. I've stayed at really nice/expensive hotels. I recently had a $400 room at the Coeur d'Alene Resort, which was nice, but it was new/nice. The Sorrento has the beautiful old furniture and marble fixtures. White down comforter on the bed. Classic or Jazz music was playing when the valet brought you to your room. It's the best hotel I've ever stayed at, and it's right on Capital Hill, which is awesome. The view of everything from our hotel room.....perfect....I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
