Terrible terrible terrible
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/13/11
Dirty, old and not a good value. Location is convenient but that's about it. Smells bad, outdated.

AVOID
By James, 7/16/10
The friendly staff and great location do not make up for the bugs, the hair in the drains, or lack of locks on the doors. When I asked for either a shower curtain or a plug for the drain, I was told that the room was exactly as it should be. For being the most centrally-located hotel in the state Capitol, it is absurd that they lack wifi in the rooms or even any Internet connection in some rooms.

Location is everything
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/9/08
I stay at the Governor Hotel at least 4 times a year and have for the last several years. I am an elected official and have business during the legislative season in Olympia. The location is perfect. I don't need a car...I can exercise by walking around the lake, I am close to all restaurants and city attractions...I can jump on a bus by walking out the door. Yes it is an older hotel, it could use some updates, but the staff is wonderful and fun loving. I have stayed at several hotels in Olympia, but my favorite and the one I return to is the Governor Hotel.

Great location and views!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/7/08
I stayed at the G. House years ago - what a dive! But the (recent?) renovation has helped a great deal. The lobby still smells funky but the rooms are very comfy and clean (and do not smell), the king-sized pillow-top bed was just the ticket after a day walking around downtown Olympia. The views on both sides are wonderful - either Capitol Lake or the charming square on the other. Great location, lots of shops and places to drink/eat nearby, close to the Capitol campus. The hotel was quiet, clean, nice amenities (laptop hook-up in room) and a terrific bbq place off the lobby. Really nice staff. This is a good getaway place for couples on a budget who like to be in a walking city and like the convenience of being right downtown. Olympia is unique and charming. We will be back.

THE PROPERTY NEEDS TO BE IMPLODED!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/10/08
The hotel property is very old and in need of a serious upgrade. The carpets are dirty, paint is fading and the place generally shows its age.

Friendly and convenient.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/22/08
This is a great place to stay. The Hotel is historic, but clean and convenient. There is a park across the street, the bus stops right out front. It is within walking distance to the Capitol, the Oysterhouse and many wonderful Olympia destination points. The staff was extemely accomodating. While we were there a State Representative dropped her purse in the parking lot, and it was returned with money intact to the lobby. Just an overall great experience at a great price

Time together
The location is great all walking distance. Yes a older hotel with all the feeling and little imperfections that make it unique. Not a fancy place but comfortable, I would go back. A good resturant is "The Mark" and then off to a show at the Harliquin Theatre. Again, not fancy a little run down with age but because of that it has its own character anc charm. Brenda & Matt

Very good!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/23/07
The stay was quite comfortable. Very friendly staff. Room was fine the bathtub was showing wear , but other than that it was fairly quite and relaxing. Outdoor pool was in good shape too.

Not bad, but not great.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/16/07
This hotel is better than some of the cheap Motor Lodges you find on the side of the freeway, but it needs to be updated. The furnishings are a bit worn including the bathrooms. They have high speed internet, but it is not wireless and is located next to the bed and not next to the desk where you could acctually sit to use your computer. They have a hot breakfast, but everything was overcooked and dry. Overall, it was not a great experience, but at the same time it was not terrible. If you like nice amenities, need to use your computer alot and prefer a very clean room I would not recommend it. If you are not too concerned about amenities and just need a place to sleep it,s would be ok.

DESPERATE need of renovation
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/26/07
We were accidentally bumped from a 3 star hotel and sent to stay in this hotel for free. It wasn't worth it. As stated in other reviews, bathrooms were horrendous. Green fungus? in peeling tub, rust around sinks and what appeared to be, urine dripping on bathroom door. The sheets were so threadbare you could see the mattress design due to partial mattress cover. I slept with my street clothes on and thankfully had brought my own pillow. No excuse for the very poor housekeeping in our room and the lobby. The front staff was polite, but overwhelmed with only 1 computer running. I could not imagine paying $100 to stay there voluntarily.
