The office is completely detached and fairly far from the actual rooms. The building with the rooms did not have a secure entrance so anyone could enter the building! On our initial entrance to the building, we found clots of mud on every step up to our room. The hallway was dark and creepy! Once we made our way into the room which was not very clean I talked myself into going ahead and staying figuring I could survive 2 days. We left to move our car around to another parking lot which was closer to our room. My daughter and I retrieved our luggage and started to our room when my daughter turned to me with a terrified look on her face as there was a man lying in the floor of the landing whom she almost stepped on! We ran out of there and got in our car. The man came out behind us and ran around behind the building! We reported this to the office and the attendant called the police. Apparently homeless people freqently slept in their hallways! My daughter and I left and went to dinner as we just wanted to get out of there. When we returned the attendant said the police came and the man was gone. I told the attendant I was not staying there and she said the police would patrol the hallway all night! Well, I really didn't believe that and I surely did not want to stay in a place that the police had to patrol the hallway! We had to go back in the room to get the items we left on our initial visit to the room and when we came back out to our car, the man was standing in the doorway of the building and came out and stood in front of my car. We hightailed it out of there! We found safety at the Comfort Inn! So, that was my experience at the Howard Johnson in Warrenton, Virginia! Oh, and the attendant told me I could not get a refund on my room! We have to return to Warrenton in a couple of weeks for the same soccer tournament that we were there for last year and we most certainly will not be staying at the Howard Johnson!
