the scariest place I've ever been- and I'm from DC
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/21/11
We ended up leaving this hotel 15 minutes after checking in. The experience was horrible. Ive never paid for a hotel and left until we booked here. We checked in very late at night and needed a clean room for an overnight stop on a long trip. Having read some of the reviews on hotels.com, I thought this was an ok pick. I do know that you get what you pay for and I did not expect an amazing room. For $67 I did expect something clean- The front desk area was creepy...after checking in, we realized we might not be in a safe area. The door to the outside was old and a big cheap window spanned across the living area. Not to mention- 2 adjoining rooms with old looking locks made me kind of fear for my life. And this observation could be inaccurate- but the desk clerk knew my name when we checked in (which granted was at midnight) and someone kept peaking out from the door behind him at us while he was getting our keys. then they put us in the back of the motel by the mountain which after leaving it occurred to me we could have easily been robbed or worse. This wasnt the deciding factor on leaving though- we then realized we were not alone- bugs were flying around the bathroom area, the towels were brown, and there was a big stain in the only chair I thought about sitting in. After starting to turn down the bed, caved in the middle I might add, on one side- we saw a stain on the pillow- we were examining and something fell from the ceiling. Went to the other side to turn down the bed and a giant roach crawled across the pillow. We left- actually too scared to go back to the front desk to checkout and knowing they would just offer us another room, which we did not think was worth wasting more time realizing another room would be filled with flying insects and roaches. This hotel is more than gross- my opinion is that it's dangerous - to your health and well being.

Disgusting
By Jason, 2/7/09
I don't know where to start...The ice machines were overflowing and broken on every floor which caused the steps to be a sheet of ice. The elevator was noisy and shakey to where I thought I was going to get stuck in it. The heater in the room was broke. The wallpaper was peeling off the walls. There was what appeared to be blood stains on the phone. There were also stains all over the room. The bathroom was filthy. The internet did not work. I actually slept above the sheets in the clothes I wore that day and had to use my coats as a cover and my sweatpants as a pillow because I was that afraid. Don't stay here

Would never stay here again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/5/08
We were supposed to have an upgraded room. Beautiful view of the mts, non smoking, upgraded room. What we had was a room that smelled like an ash tray, had burn holes in the carpet and an huge burn hole in the bedspread. The bathroom ceiling was falling in and this room was not very clean. I will say the bed, the sink, toilet and tub were clean. Other people at this motel had to change rooms because the shower would not drain and there was a terrible smell. I agree with the other review, the breakfast buffet needs some work. This was certainly one of the very worst rooms I we have ever had the displeasure of reserving.

Terrible Customer Service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/4/08
We chose this location only because it has a pool. Upon arriving at the hotel we found the pool to be completely green and unusable - although desk staff said it was open?? We also experienced power outage and, upon returning from breakfast at 10am, the maid service was cleaning our room as if we had checked out - checkout was not until noon. I am still trying to get some sort of compensation for this terrible stay but customer service at the hotel is non-existant and national HoJo customer service isn't turning out to be much better. Avoid this location if you expect to be treated like a guest - there are other hotels in the area.

Great View of Valley
By 73ehs, 5/22/06
As someone who stands 6'11" the only noticeable problem is the height of the bathroom. The room was great, the accomidations were good, there is ample parking. The free breakfast needs a little work. The site sits overlooking the whole salem, va. valley with mountains out the front that you see. Site is close to the I-81, the main street of Salem with all the shops and food stops.
