My husband and I left the kids with a sitter and headed to the St. Regis for a weekend getaway. We checked in and then listened as every hour a freight train passed below. Yes, there is a train track immediately adjacent to this 5-star hotel. All of the "perks" couldn't make up for the constant blowing of the train whistle from 9:00 PM until 2:00 AM, when we packed up and left. When we arrived at the front desk and complained that we were not informed of the possibility of consistent train noises throughout the night, the hotel not only did not offer an apology, but attempted to charge us for a full night stay after 5 hours.
If you don't mind serious outside noise, this is a fabulous hotel, otherwise, I would stay at the Omni . . .just as nice, NO noise.
