this is a old hotel charging premium prices.our room was dirty, carpet was filthey, you can hear other guest talking from the next room, the bathroom extremely small and old fashion flushing system.the lobby customer service mgr is extremely rude, she will tell you she has been working there for 6 years and knows all the company policies and procedures. She will argue instead of been friendly or helpful, this was an expensive and disapointment for us.

Not bad at all...
By mark m., 02/04/09
My girlfriend and I just returned from this place. The location is great, near the riverwalk, and walking distance from a lot of great attractions (restaurants, bars, tourist attractions) The customer service was outstanding, most of the employees were very friendly and always asking if there was anything they could do, or if we needed directions anywhere. Always gave good recommendations on restaurants, etc. The rooms are nice, nice TV, coffeemaker, iron, ironing board, desks, etc. My only complaint about this place is the mattresses, they were TERRIBLE! Very uncomfortable, and cheap looking. Not what you'd expect from an upscale downtown hotel. The linens they used were also kind of cheap looking and didn't even match anything else in the room. All in all, we enjoyed our stay. The customer service was definitely what made this place stand out.

We would not go back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/22/08
We were intialy placed in a standard room with queen size bed. Room was extremely small. Bathroom was extremely small, no room for toilitries; and was dirty -- had black mildew on tiles. Had a terrible ordor coming from the hallway on the 9th floor. Moved us to a second room on 5th floor. Again, room and bathroom were extremely small, although bathroom was clean. Closet was soo...small, you had to push your clothes in to shut the door. They moved us to a 3rd room on the 10th floor, had king size bed, room was bigger as well as bathroom. Pool was a big disappointment, it is not what it appears to be on photo. Extremely small, and dirty (pigeon feathers floating in pool for last 3 days we were there,) and no one bothered to clean, and filter was clogged. Exercise room had limited equipment, and one machine was broken for full 7 days we were there. Charged $22.00 a day for parking while other hotels, located in same area were only charging $18.00 a day. Good location , 2 blocks from Riverwalk, short distance to ALAMO. Hotel restaurant had a good breakfast, did not have dinner. Coffee shop located across street (SIPS) was good for a cheaper breakfast. (breakfast sandwiches/bagels, and sandwiches.) Coffee was good. Staff were helpful and friendly. Hotel is older and needs updating. Not a great deal for the price. Would not stay here again.

Great place to stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/05/08
Myself and a couple of friends spent a weekend at Sheraton Gunter and had a wonderful time. The room was very clean, the service was excellent and the beds were soooo comfortable. :) It is an easy hotel to drive to, is directly across the street from the theater and a short walk to the main area on the Riverwalk. Sheraton Gunter was highly recommended to me by a friend and I will definitely visit here again.

b-e-a-UTIFUL hotel. it has an amazing history to it, right across the street from the beautiful Majestic Theatre. The Sheraton is in the heart of downtown San Antonio. All the employees are the best.

We thought it was nice
By Barefoot Chick, 08/15/07
Well, My family and I enjoyed it, of course some of you may have thought that we were the Beverly Hilbillies tramping through a swanky resort. Granted the staff are working for tips, but they were very polite and helpful to us. The restaurant staff were also very pleasant to us, but we were a little surprised by the automatic gratuity, as well. The parking (valet) price was steep, but it was worth it for the convenience to us. We were enamored by the decor and furnishings. We loved our room and our stay. It has been over three years ago, and our children still talk about it and would love to go back. Maybe someday.........

Rather Shabby but not too Chic
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/04/07
This hotel was very disappointing for the price or maybe our expectations were a little too steep. The room wasn't too bad, though very, very cramped. They initially placed us in a single room, though we had requested a double. We were somewhat bothered by all the attempts made to make money off of their guests. The water bottles in the room, extra channels or the Nintendo that was conveniently left on the television, $22 parking/day, the newspaper that was hand delivered, 20% gratuity on room service, absurd wireless internet fees and the list goes on... As for the service, the front desk was very helpful but we felt like the rest of the employees maybe needed to go back to hospitality school and learn how to smile and be friendly!

NIghtmare -- Avoid this hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/02/07
We were initially placed in a room connected to another with double doors. That room had a noisy child. We were uanble to sleep. To get a room change we had to walk down as the phone was not working. They changed our room. However, they asked us to bring the key of our room back to them -- these are electronic keys that noone cares for. They did not come up to take it back (It was 1:30 am). This is unacceptable behavior by front office staff of a premium brand hotel. We had a "Do not distrub" sign outside our door. However, room service ignored it and banged on the door and then tried to open it. If we hadn't placed the latch on the door they would have walked in. This is completely unacceptable. The location of this hotel is very nice. However, the bathrooms are particularly disappointing -- the average Motel 6 has better ones. Everything in the hotel is in need of renovation. Unless you like dark, dingy hotels with really bad and thoughtless service you should look for another.

"no thanks"-giving buffet
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/28/06
While the food was o k, the service was lacking. I realize it was Thanksgiving and crowded but the hotel should have hired additional servers for this day! Add insult to injury by tacking on an automatic 20% tip on a table of 2! They still left the tip space blank on the bill and I'm sure some unsuspecting folks added in another tip! Most of the servers and particularly the managers need to go to "smile and be friendly" school.....we will not be back.

Nice Hotel / Great location but every small Rooms
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/05/06
We had a great stay at this hotel. The room we stayed in was an Executive King Bed Room and was very small. Bath room was very small. Overall experience was great - clean room and good service. Be ready to wait until 3:00pm for your room if you plan to arrive early. Took advice of previous hotel reviewers and parked across the street to save a few bucks - $18 is just to much. Location of the hotel is great - within walking distance of Riverwalk. Lobby is beautiful.
