20 reviews for Padre South Hotel On The Beach, South Padre Island
Had a wonderful time.
By Debbie, 10/23/09
Was concerned about negative reviews, but for the price we gave it a try. We were happily surprised, but take into account you get what you pay for. We loved the beach access, pool and deck. The room was ok and the balcony was awesome.

Great Experience!
By Valerie, 09/09/09
My boyfriend and I stayed here for Labor day weekend and it was great! I mean its no 4 star hotel like the Sheraton but its perfect if your on a budget, why waste hundreds of dollars on a hotel when there is just so much to do in South Padre! To be honest I read several bad reviews about this hotel before booking and almost didnt stay but we took our chances and im glad we did. It really wasnt bad AT ALL!!! The location is awesome, its right on the beach and all the rooms have a private balcony with a really nice view of the beach. The front elevators were really decent, the staff was friendly, and house keeping kept up with our room and always left us clean towels. Our room came with a full size fridge and mini stove/oven and the shower was really clean and looked new like they had just remodeled it. The tv was modern it had a lot of channels and the bed wasnt bad either. I really liked how the hotel and our room were so clean and the staff was so nice, we would definatley stay here again!!!

Ghost in Room 307
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/08/09
My husband and I stayed for four nights Aug 29 thur Sept 2 and had a great time! No problem with anything! Everyone was friendly. We were offered coffee in the morning by the desk clerk and had no problems with the housekeeping people. It IS an older hotel and it shows; however, it was VERY CLEAN. If you stay there, try to get room 307! On our last night, I had just taken a shower and was in the vanity area when I heard a strange noise. I peeked around toward the door and it was moving in and out and the latch was wiggling up and down. Of course I freaked out and went to tell my husband who was watching TV. He opened the door very quickly and there was no one there. He closed the door and it all started up again with us just staring at it. Then two clothes hangers started slowly moving back and forth. (I had already packed as we were leaving the next morning). We just looked at each other and I very loudly said 'whoever it is just leave right now'!!! I said this several times and then everything just stopped. Creepy! My husband and I are both in our 60's and do not have wild imaginations. If anyone knows of a 'ghost' in this hotel...................

I'd Rather Throw Money Out The Window
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/12/09
This hotel had so many problems. The bathrooms had mold in it and their were clumps of hair already in the drain when I got their. For some reason the floor would become wet and every 30 minutes we would have to use one of our precious towls to clean it up. The reason why the towls were precious was because we only got 3 a DAY! I was very upset about that. But the thing that upset me the most was their was no room service that came to me. The lady just hannded me towls and left. No one every came int ot the room to clean it. The bed smeled as if it had not been changed in a lond time and I would have been more comfortable sleeping on rocks then on that bed. The elevators were terrible exspecailly the ones that were in the back they looked nasty and very unsafe. My friend lost her swim suit off the terrice and we asked the front desk if they could see if some one woul just go out into the side thing to see if they could get it. They never sent anyone. We finally found it and the hotel didnt even put a notice to try to find it. I trufully hated this hotel and will never recomend this hotel to anyone. And bye the way the people at the front desk are very snobby . The only good thing was the veiw of the beach.

Great value for your money
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/07/09
My girlfriend and I decide to stay at the hotel for two nights and had a great time. Yes this is no Holiday Inn, but the hotel was clean and came with everything that you will need. There are far too many activities to go off and do on the island then to invest all of your money in a hotel room. If you need a clean inexpensive place to stay then I would suggest Padre South hotel. Plus the room was very spacious with a good balcony view. Plus it also included a full size refrigerator, a oven, coffee maker, and toaster. For those looking to bring your own food to help keep the expenses low this hotel was great.

Stay Far Away!
By Austin W, 08/11/08
First of all i wrote a review about a year ago....it must have got taken down. Let me tell you why you should stay far away from this dump. Ok when we first got in, the staff was all huddled in the back room by the check in desk and none of them greeted us or held the doors for us. I didnt think much about it then, and the first day i didnt have any interaction with the staff. I took the elevator and it felt like it was going to crash, it was really bad and i didnt feel safe at all. i decided when i was going to go down, i would use the stairs. The stairs are made of wood, and some of them are loose and u feel like it could colapse at any moment. The hotel is very outdated, as are the rooms, the appliances, and just everything. The room had a very strange odor, and it was filthy. The was hair all over the bathroom floor, and the corners of the walls were chipped or has a hole. The next day my friend got a terrible sunburn and that night he decided to jump into the pool and something weird happened. he couldnt feel his arms or legs and was sweating like a racehorse. something bad happened and we had to get him cold towls. we only had 4 in our room, but we needed around 15 or 20. we went next doors asking friends if we could borrow their. i went downstairs and told the staff i needed a few towls. The lady told me "i cant give you any towls until you return yours". i told her that my friend needed it quickly and she didnt seem to care at all and just ignored me. i told her and she went away and just turned her back to me. and she wasnt the only one. just because in high school doesnt mean she can be rude to me. that set me off and we had to use our sheets to cool him off because he was just burning. he got to feeling better, but i was still angry. the next morning there was a guy at the desk and i told him about the rude staff member the night before and he told me to forget about what happened and that it wasnt a big deal. o is that really not a big deal. well i have a novel to tell but ill keep it short. the cleaning people wouldnt move their carts out of the way for anyone, we had to move it to get through, their was nothing pleasant about that place. it isnt a good place at all to go for any type of occasion. the only thing i liked is that it was near the beach. but i would rather pay more at a hotel not by a beach than this crap shack. but seriously consider somewhere else before this dump unless you like a dirty place where the staff is absolutely rude. i think this place should be bulldozed immediately

Disgusting!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/18/08
From the moment we checked in the front desk was rude. Charged the wrong credit card for the room after I specifically asked for it to be changed. No hotel security, as she blurted out our room number in front of the entire lobby. You can't move in the elevators as they will lock up and bells will go off. There are even signs in the elevator that worn you of this. Our two bedroom suite was horrible. The "queen" bed was a full. The couch looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months. The carpet was dingy. The appliances were small and out of date...there wasn't even a microwave. The master bedroom had a ceiling tile that would fall down everytime the air came on. The room had dingy spots along the walls. The balcony doors were very difficult to open and the airconditioner which took up over half of the balcony was wired from the inside leaving exposed wires. I will never stay here again...the only bright side was the beach. Not a deal for the price, would have much rather stayed at a hotel is newer and more up to date!

OK for the price
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/11/08
Very old, small windows, painted over brick walls (in the rooms), bad parking, stairs feel like they're going to collapse. Needs to be remodeled. Close to the beach with a walkway.

Great Value, Nice Suprise
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/27/07
We had read reviews on many travel websites about this place and some were good & some were bad. We decided to take our chances & give this hotel a try. What a pleasant suprise !!! Great value....not a 4 or 5 star hotel, but is clean & has has nice emenities especially for the price. The place is kinda old, but it has what you need if you're traveling on a budget. Our room was clean and there were NO roaches or bugs whatsoever (as other reviews may have stated)...all of the appliances worked great in our kitchenette. The balcony was small, but the view was awesome !!! The beach was just short walk away. The staff was nice. The only complaint we had was that the room in which we stayed had one of those doors that can open up to the adjacent room, so the wall on that side of our room was thin. We could hear the guest's cell phone ringing & them talking next door on occasion, soI think it's probably a little noisy during spring break or during the busy summer months. Other than that, everything was pleasant. Will definitely be back !!!
