Hotel from hell...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/28/09
Dated, tacky, tatty... This place had my wife close to tears. The entry was ominous - damaged polystyrene ceiling tiles and a tacky faux-renaissance statue, but the room was a nightmare. Wall paper starting to peal off walls, mould around door frame, nasty piece of board with protruding nails boarding up the window over the door - also compete with cob-webs, badly chipped paint on bathroom door, room faced directly onto street and traffic noise was very audible, didn´t feel safe... we booked the room on HotWire.com as comparable with a Holiday Inn Express - comparable with Bates Motel would be more like it. Clutter in the garden area outside. Staff were useless as were HotWire.com - they were useless and said they´d checked it 2 weeks ago and was fine. I wasn´t expecting 5 star luxury but this was not acceptable, especially at the price. We left without staying the night.

I will back soon
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/14/09
Is so cleaned my room and the towels too, is very confortable. the a/c is very good maybe are new. The price is a few for this hotel. I like the pool indoor, jacuzzi and sauna the hotel is a great place and the best location so close near the plaza mall in 10 street. Este hotel en Monterrey Mexico tendrìa un costo de $1400.00 aprox $110.00 dlls.. Cecilia Sada

Time Warp

This hotel was clean and in a great central location, but my room felt like I had walked back into 1984. Everything was dated.

Unexpected satisfaction!

I have to reserve hotels without knowing the hotel on a regular basis. If you travel as much as I do, you've experienced reserving a hotel in a national chain and upon arrival you find yourself in crack-ville. When I first saw the HI civic-center location I thought oh great, sleasville. The hotel is older, but at one time it was the jewel of the holidomes. The rooms though dated are very clean and comfortable. The working Sauna was a great suprise, and the free house drinks were refreshing. The breakfast...was ok. One of my team had a problem with their door lock, wouldnt open. Maintenace came quickly and resolved the issue just as quick. (they didnt check for my 'best for breakfast' package, they didnt check anyone for it or PC membership while I was there.)

No Attention to Detail
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/03/06
The breakfast was horrible. They did not even have orange juice, at all. The coffee was burnt, the eggs were too runny, everything on the breakfast buffet had a culinary problem. The dining tables each had a clear plastic vase in which old dirty water was put in it to make the illusion of a real flower present. The flower was fake plastic/ cloth and looked horrible. The fact that the metal used to stand the flower in the vase was rusting made it that much more unpleasing to have in front of you while you ate your horrible breakfast. The ceiling and ceiling airconditioner vents where full of mildew and rust from the stale indoor air. The seats had cigarette burns on them, the table tops were smeared and dirty. The list goes on and on and I do not have the time to comment on the not so good room conditions or the horrible and nearly non-existant wireless internet connection. Overall experience was bad and if the hotel staff paid more attention to detail, maybe I would return. I will not return, nor do i recommend the Holiday Inn Mcallen Civic Center Hotel to anyone.

I'm ready to go back.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/04/05
It's been a while since I stayed at this hotel, but this past weekend it was great. Great waiters, my smoke alarm kept going on and Daniel the maintenance man took care of it right away. I will stay there again soon. Five stars all the way.
