HORRIBLE - DON'T STAY HERE!!!
My husband and I stayed at the Holiday Inn San Antonio Downtown Market Square location (318 W. Durango San Antonio, TX) on Thursday, April 23rd and left on Saturday, April 25th.
The staff was very rude! My troubles began upon arrival when the hotel staff did not believe me that I had a prepaid reservation thru Destination Rewards. Even when I gave them the check in voucher and receipt, there was still far more confusion than there should have been. I had to talk to two different front desk workers, the assistant manager and the manager before being able to check in.
The next issue occurred on the first night (Thursday, April 23rd) when we got into a confrontation with one of the bell men. As we approached the hotel from the parking lot at 11pm, a car was in the drive up area in front of the hotel with the bright lights on. My husband asked the people at the car to please dim the lights as they were blinding us while walking up to the hotel. At that point we were verbally attacked by the hotel employee leaning into the driver side window. He told us to mind our own business, that the lights weren't on bright at all and to just leave them alone and get into the hotel if that's where we were staying. Upon complaining to the night manager about this employee, he did not resolve the problem at all. Even when the employee was disrespectful to us in front of the night manger, he just defended the employee and told us that "he would handle his employees". To add insult to the situation the disrespectful employee brought the security guard to the lobby as if we were in the wrong. The night manager didn't even offer us anything - not free breakfast or even an apology for his employee's actions - to try to calm us or ensure us that the customer comes first at his hotel.
Needless to say this ruined our stay. We debated leaving that night, but it was already almost midnight and knew we could not find another hotel in Downtown San Antonio for the weekend due to the Fiesta celebration. Since we paid for two nights, we went ahead and stayed on Friday night as well. We actually stayed away from the hotel as much as possible to avoid the disrespectful employee from the encounter on Thursday night out of fear of him coming at us again or vandalizing our vehicle.
Another minor problem we had was that a night front desk employee told me there were $2 off the breakfast buffet coupons available and to ask the workers at the front desk in the morning. When I asked the front desk workers on Friday morning, they had no idea what I was talking about. There were no coupons that they knew of. I don’t know why the night employee would say that and no one on the day shift had a clue. Obviously there is a total lack of communication among the staff at this hotel.
Overall the hotel seemed a bit dirty – the carpet was worn and the white linens were not bright white anymore. The smoking area is right outside the front door of the hotel so you had to walk thru a cloud of cigarette smoke to enter and some people didn’t use the ashtrays so there were butts on the ground. In the room, the bed was OK. The coffee pot was on top of the TV cabinet. If I weren’t as tall as I am I would have had problems balancing the tray to move everything to the desk to make coffee. The only helpful employees I found at this hotel was the housekeeping staff; they were all very nice.
This was the worst experience I have ever had at any hotel. I thought the Holiday Inn hotel chain was a safe and family oriented place, but I will never stay at any Holiday Inn or any hotel in the InterContinental Hotel Group again after this horrible experience.
