Hotel Restaurant Terrible Service
By ,
I thought the rooms were fine, no problems there. We ate in the Hotel Restaurant twice and both times the service was pitiful. We ate there for dinner one evening and there was only one other table eating and our waitress took forever to wait on us, took forever to get our food, we got our food before our drinks, she never checked on us, no refills, and waited 20 minutes after we were done eating to get our check. I thought maybe it was just the waitress that was bad, however, we had breakfast there the next morning and the service was even worse. I will NEVER stay at this hotel again.

Nice hotel-if wanting close to Riverwalk-not it
By ,
This picture made me think we were right on the Riverwalk--which you're not. Hotel says 4 blocks, but it's closer to a mile away from Riverwalk. 4-5 blocks away from Market Square.

Priceline/Hotwire not desired
By ,
The front desk made us wait for our rooms which we booked through Priceline. The rooms assigned were not what we asked for in our reservations. We are told that since we did not booked directly with Holiday Inn that there were no rooms reserved for us. The worst three nights I stayed in a hotel in my whole life.

Could do MUCH better...!!!
By ,
I am writing this from my room in this particular hotel... its Friday nite (Sat morning) at approx 1:50AM and I have been woken up again by all the 'noise' in this place! Particularly, the noises made by the 'neighbors' who have a tendency to speak quite loudly, laugh out loud (with 'loud' being the operative term) and trying to out-volume their TV volume...!!! Also, beside the regular sounds of sinks and showers running, and toilets flushing --- there are some rather delighful "personal" bathroom noises that are also quite audible! The hotel's slamming doors are really a constant nuisance --- whenever the exit doors (and most room doors) close, they make a loud, clunk-bang, slamming noise --- or even a clunk-double bang slam!! The door to my room also makes this noise --- and the door really sticks whenever I try to open or close it --- I have to force the door to open or close --- which causes it to slam. My 'neighbors' must hate me because I usually go out for a morning run about 6am and that noise can be heard down the hall!!! Anyway, the rooms however arent too bad; although, I did change rooms from the first room I was given because had a really 'musty/stale' odor. The card keys had to be re-programmed twice... I think it was another sign to move to a different room! The hotel restaraunt also leaves a bit to be desired... for the first 3 days I was here, they couldnt accept credit cards because their POS terminals were down. (One staff member said they had been down for several WEEKS!). The hot breakfast menu ($10.99) does not include omlets or pancakes; or $8.65 continental for fruit, cereal and toast. The restaurant manager (older gentleman) had a pretty bad cough but continued to work around the breakfast foods and cough into his hands and not stop to wash/disinfect before returning to collect money at the register, seat customers, hand out menus, etc. (Then he'd go right back to the counter and the breakfast food area). I have not eaten breakfast here since that charming little episode! One other point I need to mention is the elevators... they are 'hella' slow!! I am on the 3rd floor and it takes an eternity for the elevator to arrive and twice as long for it to reach the ground floor! I have only used it a couple of times --- when checking in and carrying bags/cases, etc. Its not a "bad" place --- but it could definitely do better...!!! They just need to step their game up a bit and take care of some really basic hospitality 'issues'.

HORRIBLE - DON'T STAY HERE!!!
By ,
My husband and I stayed at the Holiday Inn San Antonio Downtown Market Square location (318 W. Durango San Antonio, TX) on Thursday, April 23rd and left on Saturday, April 25th. The staff was very rude! My troubles began upon arrival when the hotel staff did not believe me that I had a prepaid reservation thru Destination Rewards. Even when I gave them the check in voucher and receipt, there was still far more confusion than there should have been. I had to talk to two different front desk workers, the assistant manager and the manager before being able to check in. The next issue occurred on the first night (Thursday, April 23rd) when we got into a confrontation with one of the bell men. As we approached the hotel from the parking lot at 11pm, a car was in the drive up area in front of the hotel with the bright lights on. My husband asked the people at the car to please dim the lights as they were blinding us while walking up to the hotel. At that point we were verbally attacked by the hotel employee leaning into the driver side window. He told us to mind our own business, that the lights weren't on bright at all and to just leave them alone and get into the hotel if that's where we were staying. Upon complaining to the night manager about this employee, he did not resolve the problem at all. Even when the employee was disrespectful to us in front of the night manger, he just defended the employee and told us that "he would handle his employees". To add insult to the situation the disrespectful employee brought the security guard to the lobby as if we were in the wrong. The night manager didn't even offer us anything - not free breakfast or even an apology for his employee's actions - to try to calm us or ensure us that the customer comes first at his hotel. Needless to say this ruined our stay. We debated leaving that night, but it was already almost midnight and knew we could not find another hotel in Downtown San Antonio for the weekend due to the Fiesta celebration. Since we paid for two nights, we went ahead and stayed on Friday night as well. We actually stayed away from the hotel as much as possible to avoid the disrespectful employee from the encounter on Thursday night out of fear of him coming at us again or vandalizing our vehicle. Another minor problem we had was that a night front desk employee told me there were $2 off the breakfast buffet coupons available and to ask the workers at the front desk in the morning. When I asked the front desk workers on Friday morning, they had no idea what I was talking about. There were no coupons that they knew of. I don’t know why the night employee would say that and no one on the day shift had a clue. Obviously there is a total lack of communication among the staff at this hotel. Overall the hotel seemed a bit dirty – the carpet was worn and the white linens were not bright white anymore. The smoking area is right outside the front door of the hotel so you had to walk thru a cloud of cigarette smoke to enter and some people didn’t use the ashtrays so there were butts on the ground. In the room, the bed was OK. The coffee pot was on top of the TV cabinet. If I weren’t as tall as I am I would have had problems balancing the tray to move everything to the desk to make coffee. The only helpful employees I found at this hotel was the housekeeping staff; they were all very nice. This was the worst experience I have ever had at any hotel. I thought the Holiday Inn hotel chain was a safe and family oriented place, but I will never stay at any Holiday Inn or any hotel in the InterContinental Hotel Group again after this horrible experience.

Ruined my vacation
When I checked in, the receptionist stated, "Oh, you went thorough Priceline, huh". I think we got the crappiest room there. They gave us a handicap room, I would have expected better, even for a handicap room.

Excellent Hotel and Great Value
By ,
Booked this hotel on Priceline for $54 and wasn't sure what to expect when I arrived. The hotel turned out to be very nice. We walked in and the gentleman at the service desk was very nice, even providing us a room with a view on the 4th floor (top floor). Rooms have been tastefully appointed, with nice firm beds, free internet, and classy decor. It's located not too far a walk from downtown and the Riverwalk, and not in a dangerous area of the city either. For the money, you really can't beat this - I was very impressed.

Love the new look
By ,
I have stayed here a couple of times before and I am noticing the change. It's being rehabed(remodeled) and looks nice so far. I have never had a problem with the staff and have always had my request taken care of in a timely manner. It's a great location and the rates and reasonable. Not sure if there is new managment but I love the change...Good Job Holiday Inn!
