We were happy to leave
By Aaron, 11/27/11
We liked the price, but we all agreed we would have preferred to have paid more and had a more comfortable stay. This hotel was relatively clean and safe and that's about all it had going for it. 1) There was NO wireless internet in our room which we assumed based on the advertised wording of "free high speed internet" there would be. We could not even access internet on our 3G phones in our room which I swear have worked 15miles into a barren wasteland prior to this but not in this hotel room in a fairly urban area. This suggests the room would probably keep you safe from nuclear fallout so perhaps this is a positive. 2) The hotel was hosting a humungous and extremely rude family of a wedding party. It was outrageous the behavior of this group of people. There was an entire bottle of shampoo dumped into the hot tub, kids who looked to be under 15 years old were unsupervised in the pool area and making out in front of my young kids until I was forced to BRIBE my kids to leave the pool because I was totally skeeved out. 3) I nearly twisted my ankle (not an exaggeration) on the treadmill because it has a refrigerator magnet for a replacement safety STOP mechanism. In the middle of a 6MPH run the treadmill abruptly stopped while I was running and I barely managed not to fall on my butt, I hurt my foot and my shoulder in the process. Five or six disgustingly rude wedding guests were also in the 10X12 "facility" and allowed their very young children to use the place as a playground. I don't blame the staff for the rude guests, but SOME kind of supervision and monitoring of this unruly crowd should have occurred. Finally, when I requested more towels in the pool area because there were NO towels anywhere I was given a humungous stack of towels and asked to take them to the pool for the front desk gal (actually this was just kind of funny, lol, really she gave me like 20 towels she had just folded, I was happy to save her a trip, but I also had a cup of coffee in my hand and I struggled to balance my coffee and the humungous stack of towels. This was a crazy place to stay, oddly enough we stayed here while deciding if we should make a huge move to the area. I have to believe the entire stay was just a random fluke and doesn't reflect on the rest of the community. The stay would've just been generic and "utilitarian" had there not been the added bonus of the gross wedding party guests so I guess overall if you REALLY need a cheap, clean and safe place to stay this is fine but if you want something a bit nicer and more comfortable look elsewhere. Note, I grew up extremely poor with a huge family so my lifestyle is pretty basic and my needs and expectations aren't high and mighty and *I* found this place barely acceptable.

Dirty, Dingy, and Smells Like Cigarettes!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/29/11
Don't let the nice picture on the website fool you--this place is a dump! It is very old, and the whole place stinks like cigarette smoke and mildew. The halls are poorly lit, and the doors to the outside don't even lock, so anyone has access to the place. They don't clean the rooms, just make the beds and change the towels, which is disgusting. I found a green bean under the desk, and there was a USED tampon applicator in the Kleenex holder in the bathroom (vomit). There were crumbs in the hallway leading to the lobby that never got vacuumed up while we were there. There was a bloody Kleenex behind the nightstand, and some mysterious rust-colored stains on one of the mattresses. The third day of our stay, the room was not "cleaned" at all. The cable TV didn't work properly, either. If we hadn't prepaid for this hotel, there is NO WAY I would have stayed there.

Give it a chance
By Jim, 5/31/09
Ok, so I booked a room at another hotel in Brookings that actually had bullet holes in the loby window, we never checked in. Stopped at the Days Inn, the lady at the desk informed us that they are under new management and that the "old" mangement let the place go to hell. She was VERY honest up front. The location of our room was awesome. Room was clean , but dated. You could tell they had just put new carpet in the 2nd floor hallway. Bed was VERY comfortable and the mattress was new. She gave us a break on the price which she liked. All in all, it was a pleasant stay. The only issues if I had any, the dude that working the counter at night needs to get over his muscles and himself and help the customers, was there for the marathon and they offered NOTHING in the morning to eat or drink which was promised to us the night before. INFO: the race started prior to the continental breakfast. I would stay there again, just not for a race. Thanks

The worst hotel in the world
By Christopher, 10/19/06
My stay at the Brookings Inn was the worst hotel experience of my life. I had to go to the bar to drown my sorrows, but even there I had to endure some of the worst Karaoke singing I have EVER heard. The roof had holes in it, with water dripping through which collected by strategically-placed buckets, most of which were overflowing. The walls were thin as paper, and the service certainly didn't come with a smile. Sleep in your car instead.

Great Experience
By Ann Park, 1/2/06
We had a great experience at the hotel. The staff was courteous at check in and recommended the restaurant on premise. It was fabulous food and service. We had an all around great experience here.

Fair hotel
The previous reviewer was correct, you could not get towels from the hotel staff, you had to call and give them the old towel in order to get a new one. They did empty our trash and make our beds, but even knowing there were 4 in the room, they still only gave us 2 towels, you had to beg for more. You did not get towels for the pool. Odd way to run a hotel.

Would not return or recommend to anyone.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/13/05
The list of ammenities for the hotel is incorrect. The room was average when entered but upon laying on one of the double beds, we found out that the box spring was broken and you sank almost to the floor. The room was never cleaned or garbage emptied for the three days that we were there. We were never able to get clean towels they were always out. The same towels had to be used for the pool and showers. The game room had four games of which three did not work. The sauna did not work and had not for months. We were unable to find the exercise room and none of the employees asked could tell me where it was. The minature golf course was unable to be used because the grass was so long and the bugs so bad you could not use it. Upon check out, our room rate was more than what we were told when making the reservations. Only after speaking with the manager and producing the printed quote with confirmation numbers was the quoted rate given. We are attending a wedding in this area in the fall and this hotel is not being included on the list of area accommidations. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. There were several other guest that we spoke with over the three days that were as disappointed and fustrated with their stay as we were.
