A Great Experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/27/09
We just returned from our stay at the Ocean Reef Resort and were very pleased with our experience. We have a 3 year old son and this was his first trip to the beach and he loved it! And I don't just mean the beach...he liked the hotel. We stayed on the 7th floor in an oceanfront room. The room was clean. In the kitchenette, there was an ample supply of cooking utensils, plates, bowls, glasses, pans, silverware, a toaster, coffee mugs, and a coffeemaker. Take your own dishtowels/papertowels and pot holders. The refrigerator was small and was in need of defrosting but held two 6 pack bottles of pop, eggs, milk, fruit, 3 kinds of lunch meat, several bottles of water and there was room for more. The kitchen was small but it is a kitchenette that has been incorporated into what I would consider a normal size hotel room...there is very little counter space but we were able to make breakfast for 3 every morning. We had no problems checking in or finding a parking space. The hotel has 15-17 floors and we never had to wait more than 1-2 minutes for an elevator. 90% of the time the elevator was there for you in under 1 minute. Our son thoroughly enjoyed the kiddiepools and the lazy river. The staff who monitored the pools, for I assume PH levels, were visible and took readings several times a day. There were always plenty of towels poolside. The only complaint that we had is that they advertised free wireless internet service. As with many places, this was a problem. We had a lot of trouble accessing the server. The reason being that people log-on and stay logged-on, therefore, the servers were overloaded. If you have dreams of sitting on the balcony and listening to the sounds of the ocean as you stay connected to family and friends back home, check your work/personal e-mail accounts or just randomly surf the net...dream on. We did not eat at their restaurants so I can not comment on their food. The hotel is on the north end of Myrtle Beach. It was not crowded. There is a Starbucks across the street and you can easily walk to the River City Cafe...we took a stroller and didn't need to. The have 3 coin operated washers/dryers on the 2nd floor. They have a nice workout facility with several treadmills, 2 elliptical machines, and some nautilus/free weight equipment. They have a SMALL game room that we did not use but did see a few teenagers in there ocassionally. In spite of the problems with the internet connection, I still rate this hotel as excellent. The room was CLEAN and the staff was FRIENDLY and HELPFUL.

This is the only place our family will stay!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/22/09
We have been coming to Ocean Reef for the last 6 years. They have always taken great care of us. The staff is wonderful, love the rooms and the pools are the best. We have 2 boys and my husbands parents come with us and they always have a fun time. Our last trip there my son got sick, and they were able to tell us where to go and see a Dr.. After we got back, the checked on our son to see if he was doing okay. To me that is going above the call.

Not impressed at all.
By brad.adkins71, 07/06/09
Well, I suppose the price was comparable to any other hotel along the strip. BUT, when we got there, which was right at 3pm (check-in time, by the way), I had to wait 35 minutes for my room because housekeeping hadn't cleaned our room yet. To compensate, they gave us two free days of breakfast. The breakfast was not great at all. It was cold, and it was not good quality. The rooms were pretty shoddy. The refrigerator was run-down, and so was the microwave. The bedding was shoddy and appeared old as well. I do have one positive comment, though. Shannon who was a nice, blonde lady who worked the front desk, was excellent. She checked frequently when we were checking in to see if our room was ready, and she was the lady who gave us the free breakfast coupons. Management of Ocean Reef, you should give Shannon a raise and a promotion. However, I do not plan to stay at the Ocean Reef again. Be aware if you plan on staying there...

OK, but won't stay again.
By Miss_Renee, 09/03/08
We stayed in the condo tower. Was supposed to be able to sleep 6. The pull down was a short double because it was made into the kitchen table. While a neat space-saver, it took about 18 inches of bed space off. My daughters are all athletes and quite tall (nearly 6 ft each). They simply did not fit on the bed. I assigned my youngest to the sofa bed. The sofa bed was worse than a normal sofa bed simply because it was worn out. This place needs remodeling. The waterpark is great for families with younger kids and the hotel is ok for a family on a budget. For the price I paid, I expected more. Won't be back.

Will NOT stay at Ocean Reef again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/29/08
The furniture in the living area was unacceptable, dirty, holes in it and very uncomfortable to sit on (it was a sofa sleeper, but thankfully we didn't have to use it as a bed). We asked for our "ocean front" room to be near the ocean - it was not - it was close to the street - not ocean front, barely an ocean view. My granddaughter's knees stayed black from crawling on the nasty carpet. The shower made a horrible sound when turned on. There was a fire alarm while we were there, but we only knew that because my husband went outside to carry out trash - you could not hear the alarm inside the room. Glad it wasn't really a fire...The maid never left clean dish towels and I had to beg for soap for the dishwasher. There was a very limited amount of kitchen utensils, pots, etc. We had stayed at his place two times before and it was above average - this time it was well below average. I left a comment card, but don't expect any feedback from management. I would not recommend this place again - it's going downhill fast... The positives (and the main reason we stayed there) - the children's pool area. Nicely done and relatively clean. The mattresses on the beds had been recently replaced, so they were acceptable. Overall - not worth what you pay to stay at Ocean Reef Resort.

Hated it
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/19/08
The rooms are DIRTY! The plumbing is horrible. The staff is rude. I would never go back there even if it was free. The parking sucks too. It's across a busy street with no crosswalk. Didn't feel much like a vacation at all. And the food was so bad we have to leave to get a decent meal, and then park in no mans land when we came back. HORRIBLE place!

Amazing Romantic Get-Away
By Amanda, 03/15/08
This hotel exceeded our expectations. Neither my boyfriend or I had ever been to Myrtle Beach. We easily found our hotel, and the front desk staff helped us with directions every time we left. They even took a picture of us when we asked them to, when we were dressed up for a fancy night on the town. As far as the room goes, it was clean and actually quite spacious. We got an ocean-front room, with a breath-taking view. We could watch the sun-rise from our bed! The porch effectively sheltered us from the wind as well. We both enjoyed our experience so much we wished we had booked our vacation for longer, and we're already talking about returning, and staying at Ocean Reef.

This place is THE standard
By RyanH, 03/01/08
Let me first note, I only stayed here one night, but I loved this hotel. The amenities were super nice... including the indoor and outdoor pools, the hot tubs, the bar, the view. The room was super nice, full of color, the gift shop was nice, the people at the front desk were helpful. Definitely will stay here again and for longer next time...
