Dissapointing experience....
By StaceyA, 08/05/08
For approx. $166/night we got a room that you could probably find in any one red light town in the US for $39.99. There were various strands of previous visitor's hair to be found in the tub, on the bathroom floor, on the back of the toilet and in the sink. The bath tub did not drain, and there was no stopper - Ick! The first day we were there, none of the locks in the hotel worked. This was explained to be as a result of the cool temperatures inside the rooms competing with the hot, humid temps outside causing condensation to collect in the locks. Having limited time to visit the city, it was quite an annoyance to have to walk to the front desk everytime we needed someone to let us in our room. The parking lot and walkways were rather dirty and somewhat littered. Parking was free, but there was only one time during our visit in which spaces were available. This left us to park at a parking garage which was located a decent walk away, particularly when having to carry luggage. In it's favor, the hotel is in a very convenient location and the front desk clerk was very nice. We'll be visiting Charleston again as it is one of our favorite romantic getaway spots. But, we definitely won't be staying here. A nicer spot, a little more $, is the Mills House. Worth every extra penny.

Needs cleaning!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/25/08
On arrival, we found a toothpick on our bathroom floor. After housekeeping came the next morning, the toothpick was still there and the garbage liners were changed but the old liners full of our trash had been left (hopefully accidentally) behind the chair in our room. The stairs leading up to the second floor needed scrubbing. And all of this was for a special rate of $155 due to several rooms being reserved for us as wedding guests. The location is great, but the hotel itself definitely needs work! We would never recommend it to anyone.

Awful!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/16/07
The staff was rude from the time I arrived at this hotel. I was initially informed my room was not ready, even though I arrived an hour and a half after the dedicated check in time. The clerk then refused to issue two parking passes for our vehicles, insisting that someone needed to park in a parking garage. The manager was no help either. I cancelled this reservation, and happily found beautiful, affordable, and hospitable accomadations about a block up the street.

Captive Audience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/11/06
This hotel owes its success to a location with walking distance of all downtown Charleston sites and its no charge for parking policy. Yahoo says $89/night, but I've never seen a rate that low. For $170/night we got a room that was fairly unpleasant; one drawer of the bureau had been burned(!?), the shower grout was mildewed, the desk chair puffed dust when moved and the ac/heat unit had such filthy vents I wouldn't dare start it up. All rooms have outside balcony access and all overlook the parking lot - both noisy and unsafe. The guys who pulled out at 6:00am made sure everyone was awake with them. The attached restaurant, Diana's, had a decent breakfast, but when we had the bill adjusted to use our 10% off chit, they "accidentally" tacked on an extra juice that wasn't on the first bill and then tried to insist we'd ordered it. When we checked out of the hotel we were told that they would not remove the charge for use of the safe. We'll be sure to deal with that first on check-in next time. I would not call the staff friendly, but rather aloof or haughty - with an attitude to be sure. I'll definitely try another spot next time I'm in Charleston.

Great Find
By Bird, 02/18/06
It was a great evening! I checked in and immedietly parked my car - a BIG deal in Charleston as there is virtually no free parking. This is located in the heart of Downtown. One block from King Street Shopping and one block from the Old Market. It was surrounded by great places and restruants and almost all of the places to see and do were within a block or two. The service was very helpful and eager to accomidate and make recomendations. When I was quoted the rate, I was afraid to look inside the room, but it was a BARGAIN. Very clean, quiet and I felt safe. All of the details of an expensive hotel without the cost of one. I can't wait to go back and I'll surely stay here!

In the middle of it all!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/09/05
This was a great alternative to the many overpriced hotels in the historic district of charleston. It is just a block or two from the market and an easy walk from the battery and basically all of Charleston. We got a great deal, and parking which is a premium in charleston was free, even when the hotels own lot was full, they reimbursed us for the lot across the street. We had a lovely anniversary night on the town and didn't have to worry about cabs or driving since it was all within a few blocks. The room was plenty big, a king bed, and included a coffee maker and a fridge which meant we could bring some goodies for breakfast and have it in bed without leaving the room.
