Clarion Hotel Town House Downtown, Columbia

Over 20 unruly men loudly cursed and threatened fights next to our room. I explained to the desk clerk as I checked out at approximately 8 pm during the 2nd night of our stay that conditions were out of control. We felt unsafe. No alternative safe room was offerred. I had to get another hotel room that night. I called the hotel manager a few days later, and he refused full reimbursement. He said, "we should have offerred you an indoor suite on the 6th floor." He acknowledged that arrests were made that night near our vacated room. Also, we were awaken at 6:30 that morning by the rumbling of about 20 motorcycles. A rough place to stay!!

I stayed there over St. Patrick's Day weekend, which is a big party weekend in Columbia. The young guy on duty when we came in during the wee hours was extremely helpful. He made sure we had a wakeup call and arranged for our airport shuttle and was pleasant and personable, even though he was very busy. I'd definitely come back!

I stayed at the Clarion Town House in Columbia in 2005, 2006 and 2007. Each experience was excellent. The Jacuzzi Suite I stayed in twice was nicely decorated, extremely clean and quiet. The bathroom was huge and the jacuzzi clean and very nice. The third time I stayed in a double room which was very clean. The only negatives are that the rooms could use some updating such as replacing a scuffed coffee table. The beds were extremely comfortable and clean. I got a smoking room expecting it to reek of tobacco, but there was only a mild smell - nothing bad at all. Excellent room service - prompt with good food. I like that you can have breakfast delivered to your room if you leave an order on your door anytime before 2:00 am. The breakfast buffet was very good with alot of variety - fruit, yogurt, cereals, bacon, sausage, grits, hashbrowns, eggs, biscuits, toast, etc. Service in the restaurant was very good. I always stay at the Clarion when visiting Columbia because I feel secure and the food service is the type you don't find at most other hotels. Very good experience all around.

Excellent central location, clean and comfortable room. Service was exceptional. Room service prices shockingly reasonable. Favorite aspect? Breakfast delivered to your door anytime between 6-10 am; had large filling breakfast for $7.50 plus tip. Not a luxe, top-of-the-line, fancy-schmancy hotel, but excellent value for the rest of us. If interviewing for USC, be sure to inquire re: USC discount.

While I enjoyed the location, I found the price for this hotel misleading. The accomodations were obviously slighty superior, if not equal to, a stay at 1 to 2 star hotel. The remodeling of this hotel seemed to disguise the obvious fact it belongs in a category a level below the price and perception it wants to participate within.

For $129, we expected to find a decent room that was clean and comfortable. Instead, we found a murky, old, disturbingly small room with hairy remains of a prior guest in the bathroom. At best, it was 1-star quality for a 4-star price. We don't plan on returning.

I liked the easy access to different places in Columbia. Service was fast and efficient. Internet access was easy and fast. The staff was excellent. They were friendly and courteous all the time.
