10 reviews for King Charles Inn, Charleston
Dazed and Confused
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/31/09
I first stayed at the King Charles Inn in 1975 with my parents during Parents Weekend and did so until 1978. I just revisted the King Charles this summer after thirty years and I found it to be just as charming and cozy as ever. The rooms are VERY clean and I certainly had NO complaints. I consider myself to be very snobbish in reference to cleanliness, environment and quality. My son is now in school in Charleston and when visiting alone...I always choose the King Charles but due to room size, when traveling with the entire family we do stay elsewhere. I have always found this facility to be warn and hospitable. I look forward to my next stay and would recommend this Inn.

Very nice staff
By Marie, 04/14/09
Great location, from the cleaning staff, night clerk, day clerks all very supportive and charming folks. Loved the manager's recept. cheese/cracker/fruit snacks then the warm cookies in the evening all in the lounge.Excellent linens and big bath towels--comfy beds. Yes, the rooms are small but hey, you are in the city and the price was a sweet deal. Also free parking! We were totally satisfied. Would return in a heart beat. Oh yes, lovely pool and gorgeous flowers. thanks to the staff. end.

Lack of concern very disappointing
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/20/08
I recommended this Inn to several friends for my daughter's wedding. The night before the air conditioning breaks down for the entire side where I and my guest were staying. It was 85 plus degrees and everyone was Miserable. It was Spring break and we were being charged the premium rate. I feel the Inn could have comped my guest(room rate, breakfast, something)but they failed to step up and do the right thing.

Beware of Kelly at the front desk!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/25/07
We loved Charleston very much. The King Charles was an ok place to stay BUT: Kelly at the front desk was rude and confrontational. Not only was she rude when we checked in; she continually hung up on people trying to call into the hotel. She told us she could not do everything!!

if you're going to gouge, at least get rid of the mold.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/22/07
We paid $289 a night for a room that initially made our eyes water because of the bleach smell, and then, when that wore off, made us ill with the smell of mold. The wallpaper was peeling off in several locations. The rug was wet under the air conditioner. They had placed tape around the tub to hide the mold, but the tape wouldn't stick. There was no hot water in the sink, and taking a shower was a shocking experience, given the lack of a temperature regulator and a water system that turned from ice to coffee in a nanosecond. The rate was high because the weekend was busy. But I cannot stress how shortsighted that was. We would have been a bit chagrined had we paid the going rate of $159 or so; at almost twice that, we are outraged and will never stay in any Best Western anywhere ever again.

King Charles Inn
By Cheri, 04/10/07
We stayed at the King Charles Inn in 2005 and we are going back for 3 nights in May 2007. We had 2 nice rooms and not a bit of trouble. The location is wonderful. Free parking and you can walk almost everywhere. I have stayed at 4 other hotels in Charleston and the King Charles is my favorite. There have been some reviews about the hallways being torn up for installation of a sprinkler system. I received an e-mail from the hotel saying that this renovation is finished. I thought it was nice of them to let people who have a reservation know this.

Very disappointed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/09/06
The room was absolutely too small! The bathroom was even worse. The door opened in front of the toilet and you had to step between the toilet and the bathtub to close the door. For the price, I expected more.

If you don't mind tiny rooms...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/23/05
...this is the place for you!! We weren't in our room very much so it actually wasn't much of a problem.=) The walls are apparently very thin as well as we could hear virtually every conversation occurring on our hall into the wee hours of the night. The location is the best part of the hotel...within walking distance to most attractions. Cheaper than a lot of the downtown hotels, this would be a good place for families on a budget who want to experience the historical atmosphere of downtown Charleston.

Came for a night, stayed for two weeks.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/20/05
I truely enjoyed everything about my stay. I valued the parking, a rarity in Charleston and the sleep was great.

Never again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/27/04
I was very disappointed last summer when I stayed there. The beautiful french doors opened on to a common balcony overlooking the parking lot. Our air-conditioner leaked the entire weekend so therefore the carpet was soaked and starting to smell musty. The front desk took no interest in our unpleasant experience and most definately could not have cared less. Very expensive for a less than enjoyable stay.
