NASTIEST PLACE EVER!!!!!!! Nasty room, filthy bathroom yes, complete with those hairs they changed our room and didn't even check to see if it was any better. It wasn't we were so tired we just dealt with it. Probably will never stay at a Best Western again.

Excellent value & service

Front desk and restaurant staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms are big and comfortable. A nice place to stay with downtown Newport just a few short miles away. Remember to visit the beautiful mansions, meander along the gorgeous cliff walk and take in the breathtaking views of Ocean Drive.

Visit date: September 2006...Well, let me just say that they will never get my money again...the room I had was a basement room with a broken window...the security door leading to that floor did not close...the faucets in the shower were mismarked so if you set it to in the 70's F for temp, you got scalded ...the hallways were quite dirty and while the bedding itself appeared and smelled clean, the box spring which was not covered appeared stained and... shall we say crusty...so, location wise it was OK, not great not awful...but there isn't anything else going for it.

Staff not friendly

Room was clean and neat...a particular female staff member at front desk...was totally unprofessional...rude and just plain..nasty...will not be going back and neither will my group of friends who booked a room in the coming weeks...because of the incident with this person at the front desk...find another hotel in Newport...plenty of nice ones..with friendly and helpful staff...

Nice clean rooms, good price, and good parking (free). Walls are VERY thin however, and I could hear the person in the next room snoring. Nice to have a pool and restaurant on site, although the pool doesn't open until the summer time. Not walking distance from downtown Newport, but there is usually plenty of parking once you get there.

Keep a printout of fare receipt!

When we were checking out of BestWestern Mainstay Inn, the staff refused to honour the lower internet room rate ($75/day) I had got when I reserved the room. When I asked them why I was being billed a higher amount ($95/day), the receptionist first attributed it to tax! When I continued to pester her, she flatly refused to honor the amount saying that they never offer such low rates. Finally, I went back to my car, pulled out a printout of the reservation, and angrily showed it to them. Only then did the staff relent and reverse the additional charges. This is not how the hospitality industry is supposed to work. Also, beware, the cupboards in the rooms creak when someone walks by in the corridor. This is after the large scale renovation that the hotel is currently undergoing. Altogether, this is an avoidable hotel.
