Over priced! and hidden cost!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/13/10
Breakfast and lunch was good. Dinner was not. My husband order beef Ribs and it had too much fat on it and appeared to be from a baby calf. I ordered lamb and it was not good. My husband order a cheese cake ($48.00) for my birthday and it was overpriced. Most of the event, activities cost were not included. There was a cost for the following; table hockey, billards, and rental fees on canoning, fishing, montain biking and they even charged for hiking up the hill (so sad). The room was small and the entainment was awful-only three elderly people attend the night event. The swimming pool was nice as by four and eight year old enjoyed the warm pool and our credit card got over charged (I have to call for them to make the correction). I wouldn't recommond this place to anyone as the place is beautiful but the cost is over prices. The recreational activities were short and most involved a fee.

Great Family Vacation
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/15/09
I recently stayed at Skytop in the grand lodge with my wife and two children. We had a wonderful weekend chock full of things to do. I cannot believe peole can come to a place like this and not find something to do! We went skiing, skating, sledding, cross-country skiing swam in the pool (while I relaxed in the hot tub! I'm not as young as I used to be!) The food was fine. Well prepred, good selection and plentiful. I am not sure what they serve for weddings as one reviewer wrote but remember weddings are banquets. We got ample choices on the menu for all of our meals, which were included in the price. We got the Family Fun Package which also included our recreation. It's a bit pricey but at the end of the day if you had to pay for all you get I think you'd wind up paying more. We stayed in a mini suite and our two children slept on cots. The room was fine. It was clean and had new furniture. You have to remember this is an historic building and some of the things are old but very clean and well kept. If you want modern you'd be fooling yourself by booking an historic hotel. We love historic hotels. They are a throw back to the way it used to be. Something we all could use right about now! I would recommend Skytop to anyone especially outdoor, active families. We are thinking about going back in the Summer. With more of their land (I think they have 5,000 acres) available there must be a ton of things to do. I'll let you know.

Nice Place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/24/09
The only thing that we didn't like was that they had a rude employee who was a life gaurd in the summer and he worked in ski lodge during the winter. This employees name was Matt something I think. He was very rude to my family both times we went. I think skytop needs to maybe get rid of him

Not a good place for a wedding, we left starving
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/9/08
We went to the skytop for a wedding, and we left starving! The only appetizers that were offerred were cheese and crackers, (not even high end cheese and crackers) and veggies and ranch dressing. They had a tray or 2 of appetizers that they walked around with, but when they got to us, the tray was empty, and they did not bring out more. When the lousy cocktail hour ended, the Matre D sent us in to the Board of Directors meeting instead of the wedding. When we got downstairs, we gave the waiter $10 to get us some drinks. He came back with the drinks, and a $56 bill. he said the open bar was not open right now, when we didn't immediatly pay, management came over and demanded the money, we paid so as not to create a scene at the wedding. The waiter should have told us that the bar was not open yet, and that we could either wait for the bar to open, or pay for the drinks. We would have waited. When the meal came, everyone cleaned their plates because there was not much food, and we were all starving. Everyone ate the cake and bread because we were so hungry. My mother was a banquet waitress for years, and when I told her about the cocktail hour, she was schocked. The veiw was beautiful, the place itself is beautiful, but I would never recommend anyone to have their wedding there. We had a great time at the wedding, as the Dj was great, but we looked for a diner on the way home!!! It seems that the Skytop expects everyone to pay for the view, and they won't notice that there was no food. Well, we all noticed.

Relaxing and Rejuvinating time at Skytop
By Beverly Reed, 3/11/08
Skytop Lodge is absolutely one of the best mini vacations my husband and I have ever taken. We stayed there from March 8-10. Seasonally it is not a good time for that area since it is mainly a winter/summer area but we were not there to do activities but to get some much needed R&R. Everything done is 5 star there. From the wonderful staff, to the well maintained historic facilities to the absolutely lovely staff. Here are some of my favorites about Sktyop: 1. I had an issue with the wifi as soon as I arrived. I just couldn't connect. I called the front desk and within 5 minutes a tech was at my door. Come to find out an antenna was accidentally unhooked to the room I was in and within 10 minutes I was up and running. Five minutes after the tech left the front desk called to make sure all went well. I was so impressed with their quick and efficient response! The connection in our King Mini Suite was strong and fast. (FYI: Wifi is not free. There is a $10 fee per 24 hours.) 2. The food!!! Oh my gosh I never ate so much ever!! I am used to so-so food at all inclusive resorts. Well this is not the case here. The hotel chef prepared wonderful 5 course dinners that had both mouth watering flavors and where presented beautifully. Breakfast and lunch where just as good and for these you could choose to order from the menu or buffet style. Me, well I was on vacation so I always had to try a little of both :-) 3. The staff. Well I can't say enough about how informative and kind they all where. No matter where I was or what questions I had they always were kind and quick to respond. It was nice to be around "nice" people. 4. Activities where a bit lacking but at the same time the weather conditions did not really permit there to be many. Bad timing on my part but then again I wasn't really looking to do anything anyways. Our favorite activity was the Skeet Shooting. Justin was our guide to the Skeet shooting site and he was a blast. He was very informative about the history of Skytop and my husband and him got along as if they had known each other for years instead of just minutes. I wish we could have done some fishing but again weather did not permit us to do much so we will have to do that next time around for sure! Skytop Lodge was for me a step back in time to the good old days. The atmosphere and the great attention to detail shows from the beginning of the day to the end of the day. So if you are looking for a bit of R&R I would highly recommend Skytop to you!

Skytop Disappoints
By Mini-Bus, 2/20/08
Well, I just returned from a long weekend at Skytop. The trip is a yearly outing with extended family, 10 of us total, 5 adults and 5 kids. Kids ages from 6 through 16. Last year we spent the time at another resort offering the same type of experience and we had a fantastic time. First, the positives: Food was good. Although I wouldn't say it was an exceptional dining experience the food wasn't bad either. The views and hiking trails were very nice, although there are numerous places that can offer the same in the Poconos. The Ice Skating Rink Negatives Very few activities each day. When we stayed at the other resort there were numerous scheduled activities through each day and they varied by day. At Skytop the daily events were skiing (beginner), ice skating, toboggan run, indoor pool and snow tubing/sledding, wine tastings, tea time, along with some type of music in the evenings. The toboggan run I was really looking forward to trying. Don't get your hopes up to have a chance to do it. It was open 1 hour and 1.5 hrs (no advance notice) the two days we were there. Snow tubing wasn't open the entire time we were there. Couldn't get an answer from the staff as to why. Indoor Pool - Open each day from morning through 5:00 or 6:00 (I'm not sure of the exact times). However, only on one night was the pool open for an evening swim. With so few activities to begin with I can't understand why this wasn't open each evening. In addition to the daily activities there were 1 or 2 additional activities scheduled each day. On Saturday there was a cookout at the ski lodge, burgers, dogs, ribs, etc eaten outside at lunch. Not a bad time. Then the "Grand March" in the evening. Bless those who love this, I'm sure it was fun, but not for me. Sunday's "big event", Bingo at $5 a card for 1 hour total. Some additional details: Rooms we stayed in were small and outdated. Overall a very big disappointment They do nickel and dime you. 25 cents for a ping pong ball. In addition the Sunday Inquirer ($1.50 in Philly) was $3.00. Not only do they not give you a paper but they need to make a profit on it too? Clientele - If you are into snooty people this place is for you. They also promote based on “Skytop's time honored tradition and code of ethics”. Well, someone forgot to incorporate or think about Customer Service along the way. Keep in mind that a 15% gratuity is added to the bill on the entire cost, not just the food. Assuming you got a great “deal” at $350 per night per person, for a couple the base gratuity is $105 per night. That’s a lot of tipping. If you are considering Skytop for the first time I would say look elsewhere, almost anywhere else!!

Great Food,Ambience,and attention to details
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/1/07
i have been to Skytop three times and have never been disappointed with my stays there as the rooms are elegant, clean and comfortable the meals are exceptional, their main lobby is a great place to relax and read a book or talk with friends especially in the winter when the fireplace is lit.The grounds surrounding the Main Lodge are beautifull and meticulously maintained.I would book through yahoo since the rate through the lodge will cost much more.

My home away from home
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/16/05
If you're looking for a beautiful place to stay this is it! I've stayed here many times over the years. I have alwasy found the staff to be plesant and helpful. The bellhops are awesome and so fun to talk to. THe rooms are beautiful and if you have a few extra minutes, take a trip away from the main elavator. There's the original down at the other end of the hotel, past the Pine room. It's a little spooky, but worth the trip. Yes, the prices have gone up but this resort is still worth it. The pools are great and going at Christmas was fun. There was a gift exchange and a Yule log. SUmmers are better, though, because you can go swimming and hiking. THey offer a range of activities through the year, such as guided hikes, hayrides, etc. that should not be missed. Also, don't forget about the theme weekends. I enjoyed the Poe weekend myself, because I am a hug Edgar Allen Poe fan. Give it a try. I know you'll love this place as much as I do.

By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/2/05
The best things at the Skytop Lodge: the pools:awesome, the rooms: devine, the gameroom: it's all about the activities, and the gardens, patio, and lobby: spectacular and magnifecent. The feeling of the Skytop is full of country and relaxation and having friends and family around you. You can enjoy everything- just you wait and see!
