Been here through the good and bad
By Barbie, 3/25/11
We always go back to this hotel. It has seen good and bad times. The staff is always helpful. When a family member needed surgery, this hotel gave us a hospital rate while we were in town. They will rent you a small refrigerator. It is literally near everything! You can walk to the museums, downtown and great places to eat. Try Little Joe's in the Adelphia. Deli at it best. It is not luxurious but clean.

I'll go back!
By Charles, 10/12/09
Excellent location for our needs. Four of us went to tour Eastern State Penitentiary for Halloween. A quick 4 block walk through some restored historic neighborhoods. Taxis always available right outside the front door. Free parking and a reasonable walking distance to just about anything we wanted to do. Many of the reviews featured here are several years old and I believe outdated and unfair towards this hotel! Restaurant is a little pricey but there is a small corner deli less than 1 block away with very good food reasonably priced. We are already talking about returning next year for a longer trip top see even more of the sights that we just didn't have enough time do see and do. I would recommend without hesitation staying here. It's not the Ritz Carlton but neither are the prices. Rooms were spacious enough for our four adults and clean enough. Staff was always helpful polite and cordial regardless of time of day or how busy they were. Thanks to all of their staff! Please don't allow the older negative posts seen here to stop you from visiting this reasonably priced well located hotel!

The Bates Motel
By Craig, 7/18/08
The worst hotel I have ever stayed in. I travel frequently for business and have been from Bangkok to Delhi to New York to little towns and big cities throughout the United States. This is the worst. The room smelled horrible - - a cross between mold and tobacco - -the hot and cold water in the shower shifted without warning; the drain in the bathroom was clogged; there were broken beer bottles in the parking lot in front of the entrance; the door to the room did not open - - you had to give it a heave ho with your shoulder; it was dark in the hallways and unclean; those loitering about the premises seemed to fit in the environment; I took off at the crack of dawn not wanting to return and neglected to pick up my toiletry bag - - it was no where to be found by the staff a few hours later. I should prefer a night in my car in a street to a return to this experience. It was dirty, dingy and unpleasant. I strongly recommend paying a few dollars more and going elsewhere.

Stay away
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/20/07
The staff is very unfriendly and rude, the place worn down and dirty. It is not in the center, you have to walk, since there is no public transportation. They made my holiday a misery!

Night at Center City Best Western
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/18/06
I was pleasantly surprised by the Best Western in Center City Philadelphia. The room we stayed in was well kept and comfortable. It is not a fancy hotel by any means, but a very good value and a great place to rest after a long day. The night staff was also very friendly and there is a quaint little sports bar that stays open late. I would stay there again and recommend it to family and friends.

Poor service, nice location
By tosgood, 4/10/06
Went for a weekend (thurs-sun) and I must say I thought the staff was particularly rude and unpleasant. Despite the free parking and location (which is why we went here in the first place), there is nothing else nice to say about how our party was treated during our stay. All the way from upper-management to the workers at the bar, I found the staff here to be very rude just because we were a party of college students doing some sight-seeing. The rooms were average, nothing special, but we expected that for the price we paid. For a bunch of people trying to get some information, some comfort, and a relaxed atmopshere, the staff here made it anything but relaxing or comfortable.

never go back again
By marie, 11/23/05
I booked in this hotel in Oct 2005. The place was so far from public transportation. The hotel looks so old and the hallways as well. It feels unsafe. The bar looks dirty and smells terrible. In fairness the room was clean but as they advertised, they do have HBO but aside from that they only have local channels. So I think like all in all 6 channels or 7? They do not have the complete cable tv. They do not provide breakfast and with their rate, I will just book to any holiday inn around just for almost the same price. This is a place if you just want to sleep and then go and nothing more.

Well....
By Bill, 11/18/05
The free parking and fre interent is a plus, and is something to keep in consideration. The staff, in stark contrast to the building, is VERY pleasant and helpful. The building could use a cleaning on the outside as well as the lobby rest room. The rooms were orderly, however the coffe pot (which is nice to include in the room) was dirty...
