Not perfect but a pretty good value
By just my opinion, 5/14/11
After checking out a number of places in Carlisle, we chose Hotel Carlisle for our small family reunion (20+ people). We were a little nervous about some of the bad reviews, but an advanced visit to the place assured us that it wasn't the hell-hole some people described. And the group rate made this one of the best values in the area, almost half of what some of the bigger chains charge. It's a nice-looking facility, and the rooms were spacious, clean, and comfortable. At the manager's suggestion we booked a suite for our mother (her 90th birthday), and her "living room" was a wonderful gathering place for the group. Management was very friendly and responsive when we asked for extra chairs, tp, etc. We didn't eat at the Embers, so I can't comment on the food. But our experience was generally good and it worked well for our group. Having said that, it's true that the place does need a facelift. In our room the ceiling showed signs of past leaking, the carpet was stained, and the tile in the shower looked bad. In other rooms the shower didn't work well, problems connecting with wi-fi, etc. The ice machine in our area didn't work and you had to wander quite a distance in the building to find one that did. None of this was a major problem for us, but it should be noted. If I'd have been paying top dollar, I guess I might have been annoyed. But overall we were happy with our choice.

AVOID THIS HOTEL!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/14/08
We spent two nights and when we arrived in the room, the toilet was clogged with feces. When I approached a housekeeper, three rooms down, she said that it was not her room and I’d have to talk with someone else. I then called the front desk to inform them of the problem. After waiting 15+ minutes, my husband finally had to walk to the front desk to get someone to come to our room. A maintenance worker unclogged the toilet and a housekeeper came and cleaned the toilet. Then the housekeeping manager came to apologize and the general manager called and informed us that the night would be free of charge. However, the problems did not stop there. Front desk called late that night, woke us up to and proceeded to ask if we ordered pizza, which we had not. Around 2:30am out of control hotel guests were running up and down the hallway beating on not only our hotel room door, but others as well. Rooms were not properly cleaned. While checking out, the desk clerk did not apologize for anything that had happened during our entire stay or offer us a comment card. Not the way a hotel should be run! Would not recommend!

By Dennis P, 7/30/08
we stayed at this hotel because of a Soccer tournmanet in town. Hotel was very specious and soccer field at the hotel was great for practice. Hotel was very clean and staff was very friendly. The front desk people were very nice though. Indoor pool was great. We would stay here again at the next tournament.

friendly bartender
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/4/08
The hotel is run-down, but we had a great experience having dinner and cocktails at the bar. Nothing fancy, but cozy and friendly. The young Dickinson College student tending bar was friendly, and got all the patrons talking to each other. Don't think I'd stay there, but the bar was a lot of fun.

Not again if another choice!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/30/07
The hotel is old. Half hearted attempt at updating. When you see the staff out back on a picnic table having a massive smoking break it makes you wonder what you have done in staying here. Rooms are not clean. Bugs. A/C is just adequate. MAJOR problem is the shower going from ice cold to scalding hot on its own while in the shower. Dangerous too for older people not so quick. Wireless internet does not have enough range to service all rooms. They will sell you a ethernet cable for $10. The connection is not at the desk but on the bathroom wall. If given ANY other choice I would not stay here again.

HORRIBLE...run for your life...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/21/07
This hotel was the worst experience of my life. It was dingy, dirty and disgusting. There are bugs and god only knows what else. The rooms were dark and creppy and you feel like any minute you could be part of a alfred hitchcock murder movie. Don't let the pictures fool you they only show you a picture of the remodeled lobby but saddly the lobby if not where you gonna be staying. for the extra 10 bucks a night please please do down the street to a hampton inn or comfort inn.

Avoid Completely
By Colleen, 6/26/07
Upon arriving, the front desk person was on the phone, hanging on the counter. She yells back for someone to help us. That person comes out, completely ignores us and proceeds to talk with the maintenance person who was standing behind us. Dinner at the restaurant took over an hour and a half to be served. The family next to us waited almost two hours and they had small children. The waitress never warned us or gave a progress report that there was a problem, we just waited and waited as did everyone else. The rooms need to be updated. The shower heads are made for midgets and I am only 5' 6". We had a coffee pot in our room with 2 bags(decaf/regular). We had used the decaf the first night and the regular that morning. Upon return to the room for the next evening, the coffee was not replaced and we didn't have new styrofoam cups. We called twice and it took over an hour to receive the coffee and cups. We will never be staying at this hotel again.

we didn't have a good experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/4/06
we stayed here because of a dart tournmanet that was happening 2 rooms downstairs. the water went from cold to hot and back to cold, all the time. it wasn't very clean either. the front desk people were very nice though. the hotel has smoking/non smoking rooms but you can't smoke downstairs anywhere, except the bar area. these were the HOTEL rules. it made it very frustrating when we were entered in the tournament, that we couldn't smoke in there. i would think the hotel could have overrode that rule for the weekend. we will not stay there again because of all these things. it's too pricy, too, for what condition the hotel is in.
