Hospitality?!?
SBI was chosen as the host hotel for an international event our dog club was hosting. We brought the hotel apprx. 50 rooms for 4 nights worth of revenue, a conference room for the annual board meeting, and a fund-raising banquet for 70-100 people. The club offered to provide "waste pick-up" stations for our guests' dogs, the hotel assured us they would take care of that...they didn't. There was no way for our guests to turn the heat off in their rooms at night even though it was hot and humid outside.
The fund raising banquet was contracted from 6:30 PM to 11:00 PM. Dinner was to be served from 7:30 to 8:30. At 8:45 PM we were informed that dinner was over and that we needed to wrap up the event. No coffee had been offered, no microphone was available (as per the contract) for our MC, no table was available (as per the contract) for our auction which did not happen because the hotel staff insisted we were only contracted until 9:00 PM. There was no bad, abusive or drunken behaviour on our part which could've possibly provoked an early evening. We finally managed to get some coffee from them and they agreed to let us stay until 10:00 PM. At 9:30, however, they were "reminding" us we had to leave. At 10:05, they were pulling table cloths off the tables. Two days after the event we met with the catering manager who was mortified at her staff's behaviour. The "upper management", however, was completely without remorse. No apologies were offered. Even though we lost out on our major fund raiser for the year, there was no offer of restitution. As a club, we'd put our hearts and souls into creating a grand weekend for our guests. SBI embarrassed us in front of our guests and cost us nearly an entire year's operating budget. The middle management in this hotel was stellar. Unfortunately, the decision makers and the people who carry out the service plans need to be overhauled.
