Love Lake Murray!
By unhappy camper, 1/31/10
I live about25 minutes from the lake and visit quite often. Yes the lodge is old and the cabins need major renovatng to satisfy the city people who are not really into "rustic". The lake itself is beautiful with wonderful camping areas. The only problem is I wish there was a month in summer of Oklahomans Only camping. Or at least one campground that takes reservations! You drive there looking for a spot and it is Texans everywhere. Don't they have their own lakes?? I mean geez, I like being a good neighbor but we loveour lake too. Oh and another thing...the Field Trial area is abeautiful place to ride if you have horses. BUT NEVER ride there when those bird dog people are here. They are rude, loud and insenstive to a "family" outing.

Fun on the Fourth of July
By Jamie, 8/4/09
We had so much fun at the Lake Murray Lodge this summer on the 4th of July! The room are small, but clean and very cool! Nice air conditioning and we liked the restaurant at the Lodge. Plus, the pool was so nice. There is a lot of stuff to do around there like paddle boats, fishing, renting jet skis, or renting a pontoon boat for the day. Next time we are going to make sure and pack our tennis shoes so we can walk the trails. The fireworks display was great too! All of the staff were nice and helpful!

Rent an RV or travel trailer
By Lisa, 1/15/09
I highly recommend you visit Lake Murray State Park if you are looking for a relaxing getaway. We live about 45 minutes away so we go whenever we can. If you are planning for staying for more than just day-use, my best advice is to rent an RV or a travel trailer. You will enjoy it so much more. The lodge and cabins are in horrible shape and you couldn't pay me to stay in either of them. The campgrounds, on the other hand, are in wonderful condition and very well-kept. Several sites are right on the water and have lots of trees. There are several restaurants within 10 minutes so don't waste your money at the lousy lodge "restaurant".

Disappointed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/24/08
I am in my mid 50's and have stayed in the Lodge and the cabins many times over the years. My Mom worked at the Lodge back in the early 60's and it we top class back then. I have stayed in the cabins recently and find that they are really in bad shape. I was given a cabin that didn't even have a working toilet. As in the other reviews I agree that it is cheap, but I would rather see the quality restored and pay a higer price. The service in the resturant was bad and I even served coffee to myself and others. It is so sad the the State of Oklahoma will not work harder at restoring this wonderful area.

A lovely family getaway
By Sandra B, 11/12/07
My family and I have gone to Lake Murray cabins for the last 8 years and we love it! It is like stepping back to a simpler time where we can spend time as a family w/o the distractions of daily life. The cabins are old but well kept (for the most part) and the grounds are nice. It is what it is and we have no illusion of a 5 star hotel room in these cabins. We consider this "camping" - w/the conforts of ac and heat, a microwave and small fridge, indoor plumbing and a queen sized bed - along w/the Murphy bed for the kids. The mattresses are sometimes lumpy and the carpets are sometimes dirty however since our expectations of "camping conditions" are lower we have learned to look past it and simply enjoy the area. Skipping rocks into the lake, "hikes" in the woods and swimming are what we love - as well as grilling hot dogs in the evening and finishing up with roasted marshmallows. This is the stuff that family memories are made of. We will be back.

We loved it and will go back often
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/23/06
The sports water park was especially enjoyable. The people there were knowledgeable and helpful and I felt my kids were safe at all times. We ate at the lodge resturant just one time because the food choices were limited and you did not get much for your buck. We stayed in the cabins. They are in real need of repair and they were not clean. However, the beds and the linens in the bathroom were clean and much nicer than in many motels that we have visited. The grounds around the park were well maintained and clean. There were many things to do in one area, we felt safe walking to and from all activities. The choices of activies were exceptional.

Beautiful Clear Clean Lake
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/15/06
This was a really nice place to go. It was like stepping back in time to the 50's. You drive in at the gate to the lodge and it feels like you are in the movie "Dirty Dancing". The cabins look nice from the outside. We stayed at the lodge and really enjoyed it. When I went to the front desk to check in the place was totally booked.Glad we made reservations. The girl at the front desk handed me a sheet of activites for the kids and adults to do. Scavenger hunt, crafts, games, and movies. There is a nice pool with minature golf and even a water park. We had so much fun we have talked our family to go back for a family reunion next August. One thing though unless you want to sleep in twin beds check on sleeping arangements.

Upsetting
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/20/05
I have been coming to Lake Murray since I was 4 years old, and that is nearly 40 years ago. I stayed each year at least once and most years, more then that. I have always had good experiences with my stays, and brought several friends to the area. I also spent my honeymoon there six years ago. I have a lot of fond memories of the place, but lately it has just gone down hill. It seems like they are short staffed in every area. The cabins are beat up and in great need of repair. Maid service is lacking and short of what it should be. It is sad to see such a fun place to stay go down hill. Even the recreation area's are very poor. I am sorry to say that it really isn't one of my most recommened places to stay. We have moved to the camping scene and this seems to work out much better. I would recommend the camp grounds, just stay away from the lodge and cabins.

great getaway
By Eva, 10/6/05
My family stayed in a lakeview cabin and loved it. It was within walking distance to the fishing dock which pleased the fishermen in the family and there was a park nearby which pleased the kids. The cabin needed some repair to the screened in front porch but other than that, it was a clean, nice cabin. The park rangers were friendly and helpful but the lodge staff was a bit curt. They were busy with a craft fair in the lobby and for some reason they also have to take the money for the restaurant so people checking in or out had to wait on the people paying for their meals.

Pathetic
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/29/05
No working AC except in the guest rooms. Filthy rooms that smelled horrible. Raw sewage backing up in cabins. This place is a disaster waiting to happen with exposed electrical wiring and rotting structural members. Complaints to the State of Oklahoma about the conditions (Director of Dept of Tourism and Lt Governor's office) have been ignored. It's cheap, but even the low price doesn't make up for the disgusting condition.
