Historic Curtis Inn On The Square, Mt Vernon

What a disappointment!! We chose this place because of it's location and value. But we didn't get anything near what we expected!! It's in a beautiful location with the "historic" attached to the name, you have certain expectations. Well, if you choose this place, don't have high expectations. We were visiting family in Mt. Vernon so this place was perfect. But...............the cleanliness was a HUGE disappointment. I'm not a near freak, but when you pay to stay somewhere you expect certain things. First, the room appeared like the owners need to check behind their staff. The need for new linens is obvious, the bed spreads had stains on them and the towels.................OMG!! We got hand towels, on multiple occasions that looked like someone had washed their car with them and then put them back in the laundry. We had to ask for more than 2 towels, there were 3 of us, and even had to request to have the floor vacuumed. On our first day we had breakfast in the resutrant, provided to guests at a very reasonable rate, that was even a disappointment, scorched eggs are not very appetizing. I think they need to really take a look at their staff and reevaluate. I would have loved to recommend this place to anyone who is visiting the area, but after our recent experience, I would NOT. My suggestion, take a little pride in who is representing your establishment and the cleanliness and it could be a great place to stay. Most people who are in the area visitng are interested in the historic locale and would appreciate the location and value, but the service leaves a LOT to be desired. The owner has reviews hanging in the lobby, I think he really needs to take a look at some of these reviews and make some improvements, or he will end up having nothing more than a boarding house for the locals and not the historic inn that is advertised.

We stayed at this place about a year and a half ago, and had a below average expirence, but this time the expience was totally better. The hotel has better staff and the new manager, Yogi, really made the stay pleasent. The restaurant has an awsome burger. This place is much improved.

We were able to get this room at the last minute-- the very last available room within 50 miles, so we were very grateful. Being located in Mount Vernon rather than in Columbus made a big difference. The owners were very nice and reasonable to deal with at check in. The price is cheap, so do not expect any extras such as a hair dryeror internet. I think that is reasonable given the low rates. Mattresses and towels were fine although sheets were thin. However, the lack of cleanliness makes this place less than desirable. I had read prior reviews, so I brought cleaning disinfectant wipes with me and ended up cleaning the toilet and floor which had mold and who knows what else on it. The windows are dirty, the carpets were not vacuumed, and the room had not been dusted in months. If the place had been cleaner, I would stay again as the location and price are great. The owners really need to improve the housekeeping if they want to attract good clientele. It really does not cost them anymore to be thorough about cleaning. I do not believe any of the reviews that mention how clean the place is.

Having just hosted the Bowling Green Men's Chorus Alumni reunion, we found every aspect of the hotel to be below average. The owners and bar tenders were very rude and unprofessional to the chorus members. Reservations were not confirmed, (Reservations can be made via the computer, but the front desk does not work off a computer, so the reservation is actually never recieved.) and rooms were not cleaned. Two men were thrown out of the hotel after having already paid for their rooms (by Sonny, the owner) and threatened to have the police called on them for absolutely no reason. The reserved outdoor courtyard was being used by another party upon our arrival. There was no sense of professionalism or courtesy. They absolutely gave a very poor impression of our city for my guests who came to our community from all over the country. I will not use, nor do I recomend the use of this hotel. Its a great place to stay in when you need a place to sleep. i prefer this better than my own home sometimes.fun nice owners

The staff greeted us with a smile and we were given a room in the courtyard of the hotel. The room was nice, clean and quiet. The window faced right to the Square (what a beautiful view) but we didn't spend much time in the room. A continental breakfast was included. Pleasantly surprised with the restaurant and bar they have, food is grate and staff too. The location is great, right on the Square. -a good value for the money. I have paid much more for rooms that were about the same.

We have stayed at this hotel 3 times. The staff are helpful and courteous, location is super, price is within anyone's budget and it was very clean. We hope to get back to Mount Vernon again and we would certainly stay there once again.

The entire experience was awful. The room was dirty and there was a large gap in the door way so you could see into our room. The people across the way (who we think lived there) were were grilling and drinking beer right outside their door. We decided not to stay because we did not feel safe.
