HORRIBLE hotel - never will return
By Anonymous, 6/14/11
I would give this hotel a zero if it was an option. First, the lady was rude at the desk from check-in. Then when we checked in I took my daughter to the swimming pool and saw the slide and splash part were off. We asked the desk lady and she said that the splash park would be turned on but got rude about how the slide is only open on weekends. I was upset because the reservations said it would be open in the summer. I brought our printed confirmation and showed it to the manager and she acted as if it was my own problem and said they didn't have the staff to open it so it wouldn't be open. I did manage to get a discount on our room. The pool area was dirty feeling the first night and that "renovation" that they claim would be done by March 2011 was nowhere near done. The floor was all tore up and the hot tub was slimy and smelled like a fish aquarium. The second day they did clean the hot tub so it was better the next night. The splash park is also old and rusty looking. In addition the whole hotel smelled moldy and musty and I even saw mold some places. The carpets also were old and tore up. The breakfast was nasty with the only thing decent was the orange juice. The only good thing about the hotel was the bar. I would NOT stay here again.

SHUT ER DOWN ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/23/10
I cannot begin to tell you how mad and ripped off I am. We went with family and our grandbabies to the Clarion. And please do not mistake this sh..t hole for the clarion in winnipeg. the pipes outside our door were leaking and the water ran over live wires. The chlorine smell was so strong our eyes burned. The coffee maker was in the same room as the toilet. Real inviting. The desk clerk was a real piece of work. We were trying to be kind and friendly but she wasn't having any of it. There was soaking wet rugs everywhere. The breakfast SUCKED... The Tv cut in and out so we couldn't even watch a complete show. tho there were only about 7 channels to choose from. The grandbabies and I can't stop caughing and our noses were running all the time with all the black mold we encountered. And yes we complained but it was heard with deaf ears. they just put us in another hell hole. The lifeguards were on facebook and yes I know this cuz her back was turned to our room and I was watching her. The pool is a joke. The dew on the doors was disgusting and as we peeled back the wallpaper black mold was everwhere with our playpen only a few feet away and yep you guessed it. One sick little baby next day. People were standing outside in the hallway cuz their wireless wouldn't work in their rooms. I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND KEEPING YOUR PETS HERE LET ALONE HUMANS. NEVER EVER EVER AGAIN is all I can say. And if your wondering why we canadiens are the ones complaining, come to the Winnipeg clarion and experience a real vacation. I'm rating this crap as terrible cuz thats the lowest I could rate it but I would have liked to have given them a -20. This dump should be SHUT DOWN AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

Will not recommend
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/14/09
We stayed at this Hotel this past weekend. The rooms as well the rest of the Hotel definitely needs some serious attention and maintenance! When I slid the sheet of the bed, I found a bunch of crumbs under the covers...GROSS! I called front desk and they were prompt at getting someone to change the bedding. Although I must say when I did check out they didn't apoligize for any inconveinence or possibly offer abit of a discount. The room did not look like it had been vacumed from the last guests that stayed there, plus they don't have a fridge. My kids did enjoy the waterpark! Overall I think that for the price that we paid $129 was not worth the Stay!

Never again...seriously
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/8/08
Sorry, this was the first family visit to the Holiday Inn in Grand Forks and it is the LAST. The room was poorly kept, mattresses were rock hard and the bathroom had rust and mold covering the ceiling tiles. Funny thing was they painted over the problem... not fixing it. Water stains and a rotting door way were easliy noted not to mention the giant water spot back of the doorway in the carpet. The best part of the stay checking out and the mere $25.00 credit for our inconvienience.

Not Bad...Not Great
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/1/08
Stayed 4 days in July 2008. Mattresses on the beds were terrible...absolutely no support...felt like you were sinking to the ground. Hair from previos guests in bathroom on floor and wall. Carpet stained. Toilet not working properly. Advertised " new continental breakfast "...better rethink that. Toasters would not work properly. Microwaves to heat up the frozen egg omlettes had little power...set up on small cramped counter with no room to manouver...guests cramped together bumping into one another...terrible...obviously not well thought out. Waterpark great for the kids however the staff sitting at the waterslide might as well as not be there...very unfriendly towards the kids often looking quite disgusted to be there. Likely will not go back.

Very Poor Customer Service
By Robin, 5/22/08
I personally booked 10 rooms in June 2007 for my upcoming wedding. When June of 2008 rolled around and our wedding guests started calling to make reservations the hotel staff did not have our information saved and did not offer any help to our wedding guests. They said that they had never heard of us before. When I heard of this and called the Holidy Inn myself I was transfered to the sales department. They repeatedly told me that they were "looking" for my information and that they would get right back to me. They NEVER called. I called on 3 separate occasions and did not hear back from them. My fiance tried calling twice and had no response or help offered as well. I will never put my trust in this hotel or staff again.

Loved the waterpark - will recommend
By grantr, 12/12/07
Loved the waterpark and access to sporting events and shopping. Kids loved the waterpark, which made mom and dad happy too. Good food, clean rooms and a satisfactory rate made for an overall good stay.

would go back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/21/07
the pool and splash park were great for the kids. the hot tub was also really nice. the lounge area around the pool was a bonus too, as we had a large group staying together. the restaurant food and service were both completely unremarkable but at least the kids eat free. our room was clean and fairly recently upgraded. overall, a good value for the price we paid.

We will not go back!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/25/07
The price was $80 a night and not worth it at all. The lobby reeked of bleach but also some other kind of smell we could not put our finger on. The bathroom in the room we stayed in had hair all over the floor, on the walls of the shower and on the toilet. There was a ton of muck in the corners of the bathroom floor as well. Not clean at all. We had to clean the bathroom before we could us it. The rug in the room looked wet all the time. We chose not to walk barefoot in the room. Luckily for us we were only in the room later in the evenings and left early in the mornings. We could never get on the computer. The pool is geared only to kids. Not a pleasant stay and we would not recommend it to anyone. We were not able to read any prior reviews before we booked as the site was down. I wish we would have seen the reviews first. Way to expensive for the service and the bad rooms.

Do You Like Pizza And Beer Around A Pool?
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/2/06
I don’t know if they’ll let you have the beer by the pool, but if you’d like to, then this is the hotel for you. If you’d rather have champagne and caviar in your room, then not so much. Yes the hotel is 30 years old, and you can see it in the corridors and small bathrooms. But everything is clean, the beds are comfy and the rooms are quiet. Yes you can smell a bit of smoke in some of the corridors, but you get that in any building in communities that allow smoking. I read a bunch of reviews of the hotel before going and was nervous, but they were over dramatic. We ended up having a great time and enjoyed our stay. The pool facilities are great and are the reason we went there. My 3 year-old would have played there all day if we’d let him. The water play structure seemed to keep the kids entertained up to at least 8 or 9 years old. The big waterslide was popular too. Note that the big slide is only open on weekends, and only for people over 48” or able to swim a lap in the pool, and they wont let anyone ride 2 at a time (can’t take your infants with you). The rocky floor surface is very hard on your feet, and they will be sore after an hour or so, but in 3 days I never saw one kid slip and fall on the pool deck. The water temperatures were fine during our stay, even the hot tub was just right. We ate at the restaurant a couple of times, the food was okay, and the serving staff was helpful and understanding with the kids. Overall it was a good experience, and if you’re already thinking of going, you should be happy with your decision. For added assurance, know that when other hotels in town are mostly empty, this one is close to capacity most weekends. It would definitely be nice to see the hotel room bathrooms get a makeover, but they are not bad. I would stay there again, unless the Canadinns opens with reasonable rates. They are supposed to be building a larger water park, and will have the advantage of being a brand new facility. We’ll see how the Holliday Inn responds to that.
