Disappointed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/14/09
I originally reserved a lodge room with a fireplace inside and outside, plus a hot tub. When we arrived at the lodge, they informed us that we would not be able to stay in the lodge room because there was not any hot water and the fireplace was not working. So they said that they were going to upgrade us to a two bedroom condo with a pool table and hot tub. This condo was very disappointing. The King bed was horrible, the hot tub must have had too much chlorine in it.....we could only stay in it for 10 minutes because it irritated our skin. When we took showers, the hot water ran out after 10 minutes. Overall, I wish that we could have stayed in the lodge room that I originally reserved. It looked a lot nicer and newer online. The front desk was very nice and understanding about our complaints. I would go back again, but I would not stay in the condos.

Tucked away spa in the woods on the resort
By Erik & Sarah, 10/27/08
My husband and I took a long weekend getaway to this area and decided to enjoy a couples massage. We did not stay at the resort but the atmosphere and service at the Spa was top notch! The massage was great! Beth and Trish did a wonderful job of making us both feel comfortable and relaxed and the renovated homestead that is converted into the spa had a very unique feel to it...not your typical spa! Highly recommend it!

Look forward to returning
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/26/08
The attendant at the front desk was very helpful to make sure we had all we needed when we arrived since we got there after the front desk was closed. We stayed in a fireplace suite and were very happy with the room. There was a fireplace in the room and on the deck beside the hot tub. Everything was sharp and very clean. In the morning the view surrounding the resort was breath-taking - wish we could have seen the sunset the night before! My wife and I were in the single room but the lodge we were in had 2 rooms with an extra bedroom in the loft if you had kids to bring. Overall it was one of the best getaways we have had in a long while. Thank you Nantahala!!

Rejuvenating
By jonnie, 02/25/08
My wife and I really found the resort to be refreshing to us as a family and a couple. When we walked into the loft that we were staying at we both were in awe of such a beautiful and refreshing environment. Every thing about our loft was wonderful: the fire place in side and out, the hot tub, the tranquility, and the friendly helper at the front desk. I have and will continue to recommend it to my friends and family. I look forward to staying there in the summer to get the full effect of what the resort offers.

Nice place
By Lewis, 02/25/08
My wife and I stayed their about a month ago and really enjoyed it. The room was very nice with two fireplaces and a hot tub. The furnishings were appropriate for a mountain resort and the surroundings were very beautiful. it was raining when we were there so we did not get to hike or really explore the location but from what we did see it was very nice. I would certainly recommend.

Absolutely First Class
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/14/08
Absolutely first class resort. My wife and I have traveled quite a bit and have enjoyed some of the best resorts and restaurants in the world. The restaurant at Nantahala Village was truly outstanding. We loved the privacy of the individual cabins, especially the private hot tub on the porch. The swimming pool was extra nice and clean. We would definitely like to stay at Nantahala village again.

Not impressed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/27/07
I guess it depends on what you're used to. If you live in a trailer down by the river, this place will seem luxurious. However, if you do not like finding a louse comb in between the cushions of your couch, this may not be the place for you. We stayed in a 4 bedroom home in the resort which had been the former location of the spa. First, the accommodations had been completely misrepresented. Of the 4 bedrooms, only the master was a decent size; one bedroom had room for 2 twin beds; and the other 2 bedrooms had barely enough room for 1 twin size bed. Also, the railing around the stairs was loose in our home. There was no dishwasher or laundry room in the home. They do have a resort laundry room, but most of the time the owners were using it to wash their personal laundry and resort towels. One night, we were late finishing our laundry because we had to wait on the owner's laundry to finish. We told the receptionist we were going downstairs to get it. We were down there maybe 5 minutes, but she locked us downstairs anyway. We had to bang on the doors - thank goodness someone heard us (by the way only a few wireless carriers provide adequate service for this area). Also, we had to beg everyday for towels. The fireplaces did not work and we had to wait a day and a half before someone was available to fix it. Also, the recreation room is closed during the off-season; they forget to mention that when you make reservations. They will give you a key if you ask at the front desk, but they will not turn on the heat. We spent over $325/night for what I consider to be substandard service. There is very little to do. We went for the Polar Express trip (make sure to go late at night so you do not see the trailer parks). Next year, we plan on staying in Asheville and taking the trip from Dillsboro. If you do decide to stay in Bryson, The village is the best place to stay, which is quite sad. Their competition consists of run down roach motels. DO NOT BE FOOLED BY DOCTORED UP ADVERTISEMENTS!!!!!!

Not so great
By m0mmy3, 11/25/07
My husband and I booked this resort so that we could take our three young children (2, 5, 6) to the Polar Express train ride out of Bryson City. We booked a two bedroom treehouse cottage/cabin in early spring, as the holidays tend to book up in the mountains. First of all, let me say, that the cabin really had potential. It had a beautiful view and the potential to be very nice. THIS RESORT IS NOT SUITABLE FOR SMALL CHILDREN!!! On that note, let me say that it was not near as clean as it should have been. It was VERY rustic. If you want to camp, but still have electricity, heat, and running water, it's a great place to stay. The comforters on the bed, bath mats, and sofa were all dirty and stained---just nasty! There were bug droppings in the kitchen cabinets where the dishes looked like they were just thrown in there. A lot of the dishes didn't even look clean. Light bulbs in two of the rooms were burnt out which I guess was kind of a blessing, because when you turned on the light in the living area, there were dead bugs almost completely covering the cover. Yuck! We did find out later that night that the bugs in the lights were lady bugs. They were everywhere! (which is better than roaches or spiders) The furniture looked like something that they got from the dump. The water pressure was only a drip and the pedistal sink in the bathroom was not even secured to the floor or secured at the base and pedistal, which made it move and VERY dangerous for children. There is only a window unit which will have to run on high all of the time if you plan on staying warm at all. If you close the bedroom doors the bedrooms get freezing, so bring extra blankets. The people at the main lodge(check-in) were nice and were able to give me extra blankets when I asked. There is NOTHING near this place. Bryson City is about a 20 minute drive and there is a drug store and a couple of fast food joints, but that's about it. The lodge has a resturant with the norms, but we didn't eat there. We left after one night and went home!! By the way, if you are looking at the GSM Polar Express, don't bother. NOT WORTH THE $$$$$ Not much of an experience and you don't see anything on the ride except trash and trailor parks. Try the one out of Dillsboro, heard it's a little better.

First Class Lodge and People
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/16/07
The Resort was absolutely first class for a mountain retreat. We have gone back three years in a row and plan to do so for the foreseeable future. We have stayed in their five star condo type rooms and cabins. We have also checked out their Lodge rooms which are also first class Bread & Breakfast like. Maybe we will stay in the Lodge next time. The restaurant is first class. We rarely miss a meal there although there are other good restaurants in the area. Breakfast and dinner, the Lodge Restaurant is special. Being from Miami, we know good food and accommodations, and this meets all our needs. (My wife says the spa services are also great). My 4 star for service is only when you stay in the cabins. You are a little up in the woods and sometimes they forget about you re: towels. You need to remind them. The owner and employees are first rate people. Friendly and caring about the quality of your stay.

Stay away off season--expect evangelical religion
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/17/07
Website shows wonderful attractions and beauty. If you go in off season, expect absolutely no services and no available attractions and no services. Though still $100 plus per night, this resort is virtually closed. Celebrated restaurant was closed most of our stay (available only one dinner and one breakfast), room cleanup service is not available, and lodge locks up early which blocks access to common space, etc. The web site does not advertise this, and employees do not inform you while making reservations. There was a note on the door that the restaurant was closed, but no warning that the lodge itself closed. Employees were unhelpful about other options for food. The owner did not respond when I sent a letter of complaint. Also, do not go if you do not appreciate evangelical Christianity. The lobby is decorated almost exclusively in Bible verses. Music playing in the lobby and at the the two meals were Christian hymns and praise music. Fine if you are looking for a Christian retreat, but I did not like paying $100 plus per night to have the owners try to evangelize me.
