Overpriced, outdated rooms no resort services
By ,
The views are terrific however the rooms are very outdated. The sheets had stains on them and the cleaning service did not change them the entire 4 days we were there. Also there are minimal resort amenities on the property. Other than towel service for the pool and the beach nothing else is available. There is no bar or restaurant on the property. There is no concierge service either. If you wanted to get a meal or a drink you had to walk to Gurneys next store. For the $475/night I paid I would recommend that you go to Gurneys instead

30 years of the best beach on LI
By ,
It was the best. Unpretentious, beautiful, simple ocean-front rooms in a garden setting. No bar. No dining room. A peacfull retreat from places like Gurneys. There was nothing to dislike about the Panoramic View except the change from the French family ownership, which we enjoyed every August for 30 years to the end of charm with the ravaging of the Salt Sea bulldings on the ocean to the accomodate luxury villas. There will never be another place like it on the east end. As they say, "There goes the neighborhood".

So relaxing...
By ,
Pros: No small children permitted. Very relaxed environment. Fitness room. Ocean views. Non-cookie cutter Mariott/Hilton/Hyatt place to unwind. It will loosen-up even the most uptight New Yorker. Cons: Iffy cell service (which could be considered a "pro" also.) Circa-1970s Cash only payment policy seems sketchey. Looking forward to another stay.

Can someone please tell me what century we're in?
By ,
I can totally understand both sides of the reviews(most LOVE the place and many of them added they liked the "no children" policy. And some really despised it-one strictly b/c no children and that he wasn't informed until after he checked in! Which makes a BIG difference b/c it's sort of a way to get over on you! Not nice. He should've been informed of this when reservation was made and nowhere on their website is there any mention of it-just put it out there-most seem to like it anyway-again, not nice). Although almost every positive reviewer lauded them for their "down to earth" feeling and service I tend to disagree. They don't seem to care if you're happy or not. That being said, I could easily get by that as I've already done it and returned. But I can see where some of the poor people that did have legitimate complaints are coming from. Plus the fact that they don't take credit cards tips a few things off. They require a deposit that one of the unhappy reviewers got f'ed out of. A 20 year patron stated that they don't take credit cards because people might cancel payment due to a change in weather. What is that? If I'm not mistaken all they have to do is write in a disclaimer on their site or inform people at the time the reservation is made, by phone ONLY, of course. Don't get me wrong. This place can take some responsibility for memories that cannot and will never be undone for the times I've been there with my then girlfriend, now wife but JC get with the times already! There are ways of maintaining that nostalgic feel(which I'm sure many crave and get it fully here) while at the same time incorporating conveniences(like credit cards-may be only place on earth I know of that does not accept them-again what is that? See where I'm going with that?) that just about every business has. I wonder if they got paid with counterfeit cash if they'd stop being so stubborn. Oh, one more thing. As far as the outdoor grills, bbq's, whatever, I wouldn't cook a steak for my dog on those things! Hey! Other than all that it IS a pretty place. One warning, one of the prettiest areas will be under construction thru '07 so keep it in mind. Panoramic View owner, manager, employee, fan I sincerely hope you can open your minds a bit. Also buyers beware that if you're starving at, say 1am, you're SOL here!

Best place in MTK!!!
By ,
Been going to MTK since 1981 and I was 7 yrs old. Have recentrly been bringing my fiance to MTK on her B-day for 3 yrs. Decided to spluge on our hotel last Sept since I planned on popping the question. This place was the best setting ever for it. Great views, the sun and sand, ocean waves. She loved it! I love that there are no kids allowed (I realize that there exists some children under 10 who are not spoiled and loud, but this is a rare animal!) The rooms are great. But do no expect the amenities that you would find in a 5 star resort in Hawaii. MTK is for down to earth people, so don't expect to spend all of your time in your room or at the resort. You must get out, go into town and have fun with the locals. The area offers great water sports: fishing, surfing, and sea kayaking. Also the resort is a 3 minute bike ride to some to the best mountain bike trails on the east end! I will be returning on a yearly basis. Loved the place, and can't believe that anyone would dislike it. If you do dislike the Panoramic then drive your beamer to the Hamptons.

Spring & Fall Escape
By ,
Wonderful ocean view from every cottage. The steep grade to the beach is inconvenient (and definitely not wheel chair accessible anywhere! and questionable with knee surgery) but discovered the passways in other buildings lead to the beach. Wish List: not become an exclusive condo development, and have refreshments available on the beach. Otherwise, could continue to live with the quirky green paint, the retro '50 look, and out of date decor.

Try somewhere else
By ,
We didn't care for this place. It needs and upgrade! We needed a magnifi glass to see the 9" TV. You had to watch TV from bed because of 1 small chair in room. No good for kids, they couldn't play Playstation if it rained. The 1/2 pint Refrigerator was in the closet. The cottage was so small we bumped into each other when ever standing or walking. I thought it was 1 1/2 rooms. No way!! Maybe a 1/2 of a room w/ a bathroom that was from the 70's. Old and ugly I felt like they where hiding the smell of the old rug by using deodorizer. The staff was very nice and helpful!

Have been staying here for 20 years
We've been staying here for a week for at least 20 years. The location is great, plenty of restaurants a five minute ride away, and the beach is only for the use of its guests. We used to stay in the buildings close to the road, but as we got older, the steep climb up from the beach got to be too much. Now we stay near the beach, have a wonderful clean room, a great view, a patio, and nice service at the beach. They supply towels, chaises, umbrellas, etc. I love that they don't allow children under ten...no screaming, crying kids on the beach to distrub me. I have my own grandchildren but when I want to relax, I like it quiet. One year we didn't realize that when you check in, they only take a check or cash. We didn't have a check with us, emptied out all the cash we had to give them the balance of what we owed, and then had to go to the ATM to get some cash. That's about the only problem we've had in all these years. They don't take credit cards because they don't want people leaving because of a change in the weather and then trying to cancel the charges on the card. We have friends who love coming in October on Columbus Day. We wouldn't stay anywhere else.

Poor Service
By ,
Rude and more rude. Beach wasn't that great, watch out the pictures are deceiving. Most importantly, they did not put the guest first.
