Hotel California
By Susan, 9/23/11
This had to have been a nightmare! The room was musty and moldy. It was 38 0"s and we called said no heat, knock on the door within a few minutes "sorry it is taken care of" but it wasn't. Between the no heat and moldy smell and lack of operating windows, We left at 4am to sleep in our car at walmart.THIS WAS AWFUL NEVER EVER GO THERE. TERRIBLE!

Customer Service?
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/7/11
Beautiful location but not the most modern rooms; no amenities; office has sign that states it is open from 9:00AM - 9:00 PM, but no one is there in later afternoon. Restaurant does not open until 8:00 AM. So, in trying to checkout early (7:00 AM) on day of departure....apparently got charged for an extra night.....because no one was available to do checkout. Went to office the night before for ice at 7:30 PM but locked up, went to bar to get ice and inquired on process for early checkout. Was told just to leave key in the room. Seemed reasonable since that is what the majority of hotels/motels do....but got home and there was another charge. Called, but just got a rude voicemail and no call back yet....expect there to be a long drawn out fight. Would recomment the Rainbow Cove. Very friendly, informative staff and nicer restaurant! Too bad, since the Showboat could be great with a little effort.

The best time and the best people!!!!!
By pamela, 10/12/10
My best friend Deb & I celebrated our 50th birthday in wine country @ The Show Boat Motel and had the time of our life!!!! The owners John & Peggy were fabulous hosts and their staff was marvelous ~ Stacey, Brandi, Jeremy, Nicole and Brenda ~ just to name a few treated us like family and accomdated our every need above and beyond the call of duty. We met a regular there, Roz who was from Buffalo & back for her 4th time this year and had a wonderful time with her as well. Food and service was great. Short drives to a variety of adventures. Will definitley be returning to this deflightful motel with its delightful owners and staff!!!

Plan on Returning over and over
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/23/10
My fiancé used to vacation on Seneca lake she badly wanted to return. We decided to do it this year for our anniversary. After some searching we found the two hotels, Rainbow Cove and the Showboat. I was a bit skeptical of the Showboat because of the reviews (which you will see as you scroll down), but once there on the water they had the only rooms actually on the water (which is exactly what my fiancé wanted). We stayed in room 6 the first night. The motel clerk did not advertise the room’s amenities (there were few) but they did talk of the view and that’s what she wanted. The balcony was quaint and the view breathtaking. Whatever the room lacked the view made up for! We left undecided on if we would be staying on the lake two nights, after a long day at the Windmill we decided to return. They had no lake side rooms vacant so we opted for a Jacuzzi room (let me tell you, that was awesome!) The room was spacious, the Jacuzzi spectacular, the room had a little refrigerator and a little coffee pot. We had dinner the second night at the restaurant, best choice of my life. We both ordered the rib eye steak and it is the best I ever had anywhere! We ran into John during our stay, multiple times. John was very accommodating to my fiancé (she can be and was quite demanding), there was no disrespect or rude behavior on his part. He was very friendly and there was always a smile on his face. She was happy so I was happy J I spoke with him at length over the steak I had eaten. He told me where he orders it from and why its so good, he didn’t appear hurried or bothered at all. All of our servers were very gracious and the other guests that were there were friendly. Being a bar there was the local crowd both nights but there was nothing inappropriate, they were all very friendly and the bar closed both evenings around 11:30-12am. My fiancé would recommend the rooms on the water and myself; definitely the Jacuzzi rooms! I plan on going again and again in the months and years to come!

Rude and disrespectful owner!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/22/09
Do you like to be treated with disrespect? Do you like to be publicly embarrassed? Do you like to be overcharged for substandard accommodations and service? If the answer is yes to any of those questions, then the Showboat Motel is the place for you!

Never to return !
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/14/09
Without a doubt John and Peggy ar ethe most ignorant and arrogant Inn Keepers I have ever run across. After traveling in 40 states and 4 countries I have never had as poor treatment as this place. These people act as though they are doing you a favor taking your money. Food and service is substandard. Much better choices nearbye.

Very Rude Owner
By no name, 8/21/09
The owner should be a little more respectful to paying customers. Speaking to adults in a very patronizing tone is not only rude, but extremely unproffesional. I would recommend an attitude adjustment if they desire further business. On a better note, our server was very friendly and polite! She was the best part of our experience!

Best kept secret in New York
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/13/09
My husband and myself have gone the last 15 years. We will be there again this year. We go for NASCAR weekend. We have the same room each year and we love it! We are guaranteed the same room each year without fail. Peggy and John are great hosts. Sharon Cook Fulton, NY

Maybe they changed but
By American watches, 3/26/09
this place is on borrowed time. 2 guys were outside nearby our room and talked for hours until 3am. There were no lights in the parking lot and it was pitch dark. We were told we could check in anytime but when we got there, we were told very rudely that check in wasn't for another hour - and after we explained what we were told on the phone, it was explained adamently that we weren't going to be checked in until another hour. We then wasted a bunch of time by driving into Watkins to "kill" the hour and then drive up #14 and checking in, and then driving back to Watkins. The motel is about a 20 mile drive at 60 mph from Watkins so it really isn't at all much fun to drive back and forth. This place needs a bunch of money to be put into it - in fact, it probably would be easier to knock it down and start from scratch. That was my 2nd and last time staying at this place.
