Very, Very Bad Hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/2/11
I was in town to visit the Ball-Arnaz Center down the street, so this was my first visit.
Man, this hotel was just plain bad. The room, actually, wasn't bad. It had a good view of town and was recently redone. The infrastructure of the hotel seems to be a major problem, however.
First, the elevator broke. I was up several floors, so we had to hike up the stairs. Second, the desk clerk was real bad. Not in good bad, but in poorly skilled and talented. He was no help and actually gave us wrong directions as Jamestown is not an easy town to get around in. Third, the dining room was low budget. It was the kind of place where you may want to eat in but, once you settle in a check the place out, the low hotel standards and service take over and kind of force you out to another place to eat. Much of the hotel grounds were poorly lit, and a drunk was sitting outside the door to the parking garage, having a few belts and bothering people.
We stayed here until around 7p and then left, the elevator being the final straw. We ended up down the road by the freeway (I-86?) in the Comfort Inn. Been awhile since I walked out of a hotel after paying the bill.
To top off this mess Comfort Inn HQ didn't refund our fee.
Too bad this place blows as it is right downtown and next to the Lucy Center, which, I'm sure, is a big tourist draw to the area. Hotels like this don't do much to encourage people to come here. Jamestown is down on its luck these days, and you can almost trace that to the attitude of people at the hotel. It's as if they don't care. And, sad to say, it showed.
