A few things to know before booking.

My family and I just returned from our stay at the Golden Arrow Resort/Hotel and although we did enjoy our time in Lake Placid, there were few things I would have liked to have been aware of before booking our room there. We stayed in room 111 which is advertised as being able to accommodate six for $339.00/night (seasonal rate). The room is on the ground floor and opens to the beach on Mirror Lake. It is basically two rooms separated by a hallway with the bathroom in the middle. The room itself was very clean. It has a king size bed in one room and two doubles in the other. The bathroom was too small for two adults and a 12 year old child and was only equipped with one towel rack so there was no place to put wet towels. Two of the doors did have hooks but towels don't dry very well on hooks. I couldn't imagine six people using that bathroom. The room was also only given two patio chairs (one of which we had to take back from a neighboring guest), if the room accommodates six guests shouldn't there be six chairs?
The resort has a no smoking policy and allows dogs. At check-in they make you sign a statement saying you will not smoke near the hotel and there’s a $200.00 fine if caught. We found that some guests ignored the no-smoking policy after night fall and not everyone picked up after their dogs. There was also a trash can directly outside our sliding glass door which wasn't kept very clean (there were egg shells from a hard boiled egg and gummy bears candy that stayed on the ground beneath the trash can for three days).
We did inform the desk manager at check out about the smoking violations and dog feces but were told that we should have reported it earlier. We felt that it wasn't our responsibility to enforce the hotel's rules while on vacation, besides, if a hotel employee had walked around the property they would or should have seen it themselves.
I may sound like I'm being a bit critical but I worked for Walt Disney World and know a little bit about the business. Besides for $339.00 a night none of these things should have been an issue.
On a positive note, other members of our family stayed in different rooms and we found that those rooms were also very clean and a better value for the money.
