Dirty, Smelly and Soulless
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/4/11
Worse than I ever imagined. On Halloween 2011, my family, like so many others in the Hudson Valley, was without power. At 6:00 p.m. that evening, my seven-year-old daughter began having a severe asthma attack. She needed a nebulizer treatment (a machine is used to create a vapor of medicine to clear the lungs). After several minutes of her choking so hard she was vomiting, we got in the car and went to the closest motel. When we arrived at the Roadway Inn, my daughter had her head in a plastic bucket as she choked and tried not to throw up. I explained the situation to the attendant. She told us she had one room left, and that it would be $139.99 ( a weekend rate despite it being a week night). What could I do? I gave her a credit card, signed and quickly went to the room to connect the machine. Ten minutes later, my daughter was doing better. As we had the room, I suggested we drive home, get clothes and return for a shower. When we arrived home, our lights flickered and powered on as we walked in the door. We jumped back in the car, drove to the motel, and requested we cancel the room. We had been in it for ten minutes. We hadn’t even sat on the bed. It was less than 20 minutes from when we first rented the room, but the attendant said she could not refund the money or provide a discount. I gave her the keys and left. The next day, when I called the motel, a man answered. He said there would be no refunds and hung up. Admittedly, if I had been thinking clearly, I would have gone elsewhere for help. I’m sure the police or fire stations in the area would have helped us, as they did so many others. Not only did Roadway Inn take advantage of a horrible situation and inflate weekday rates in order to increase profits during the storm, they took advantage of a desperate, life-threatening situation. I’ve been told that had I complained about the state of the room (which would not have been difficult as it’s a cramped, smelly, dismal space), I’d have better legal recourse. It’s unfortunate, with so many responsible and community-minded local businesses struggling, that the Roadway Inn continues to operate despite its exploitative practices and the damaging treatment of its patrons and our community.

Do not stay here! You will regret it!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/17/10
The rooms were not clean, very musty. I had serious doubts that the linens had been actually changed as the pillow cases were yellowed. I at least wanted to take a shower before trying to sort out the bedding, but the water was brackish gray/black and had a sulfurous smell. I tried the sink, and got the same. Flushed the toilet and black sediment was visible. I naturally called the front desk expecting to be moved. The man that answered the phone told me it was "normal." I said it wasn't acceptable. Water with this smell shouldn't be used to brush your teeth. There is clearly some kind of contamination. He started screaming at me, telling me to get out if I didn't like it. I was open to this and asked for a refund. I had checked in maybe 20 minutes before this phone conversation. He screamed there would be no refund, and I can get out. Then he threatened me that if I leave a bad review he will "get me." I asked him what he meant by that, and he said, "You don't even know." Seriously, stay at the Super 8 or Motel 87. Super 8 had really nice staff and it is very clean. Btw, the Econolodge also seemed quite dodgy, which is why we ended up here.

Creepy
By JohnF, 3/30/08
This is a run down motel with a nasty staff, but what really creeps me out is that the real reviews are offset by obviously fake ones planted by management. Why they just don't clean up their act instead of faking it is strange.

I would sleep on the street before returning
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/3/08
When we checked in, the staff was very rude, the power was not on in the room so it was cold and dark. We called toe front desk to get them to fix it and it took them 2 hours before they bothered to turn the power on and told us we should have gone out to eat while we waited. It was 9pm! The sheets were dirty, the floor was dirty and cold, the bathroom hadn't been cleaned yet. The water in the room was dark brown and even after running it for 45 minutes, it was still dirty. I would sleep in my car in the winter before staying there again. This was by far the worst place I have ever spent a night and they charged us an extra night for early checkout!

STAINED BEDS, HORRIBLE SMELL, RUDE STAFF!!
By O, 11/3/07
When I asked to speak with the manager, I was met with Kelly Patel. In my opinion, she was RUDE, CONDESCENDING and FLIPPANT. My complaint was regarding the multiple BROWN STAINS on the BEDS and the HORRIBLE ODOR in the room. I was told that I could leave, but, I would be charged for 1 night...with a take it or leave it attitude. I asked Kelly Patel if she had been trained to be so RUDE. She responded, "Yes!" In an attempt to help her understand my complaints, I asked her to take a look at the room. She refused, turned away, walked into the back office and closed the door. I CANCELED the rest of my RESERVATION and will NEVER RETURN to or recommend this or any RODEWAY INN.

Good service lacking
By Caroline, 7/1/07
We went there last year when we came back from our Wildwood trip. We reserved over the internet for 3-4 rooms, as we were many on that trip. Some changes occured, so we canceled a room, to book another one with the changes. Once there, it was as if that room was never reserved. Also, it says they accept pets on the internet, but they do not once there. The room was okay for the night, but not the best one around. For the service, I'd recommend another hotel, but if you don't care much about the room and service and want to pay a cheap prize for the night, this hotel is for you.

Management Stinks
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/25/06
I come up to New Paltz every year in October and I decided last October '05 to try this place. I made the reservations over the phone and even confirmed with them the day I was leaving that I had a reservation. They said yes. When I got up there the woman at the desk said that there was no reservation for me . I was fuming. I told her that I made reservations and then reconfirmed that morning, she was rude and said she only works on the weekends and there was nothing she could do. Dont bother, there are other places who appreciate your business..

Great visit turned bad!
By Jeanne, 3/2/06
My daughter attends college in New Paltz and I have stayed at this hotel before. I was statisfied so that is why I booked a room there w/Yahoo travel.Yahoo listed this place as pet friendly and that conflicted with the hotels policies. The manager became rude and insisted my children leave the hotel or stay in a smoking room. We had to leave our room at 12midnight and our new room was filthy w/cigarette burns on the rug, food bits on the floor, soiled matress and boxsprings and stained linens. The bathroom light did not work and there was no heater. The door was broken and jammed and the window was broken. Also it reeked of cigarette smoke, my children coughed all night and did not sleep well. The manager was not the least bit sympathetic and treated us very rudely. Sometimes mistakes are made, and both parties can come to some satisfactory agreement. This man was not willing to listen to me.
